My previous accountant being someone I trusted, I figured I was in good hands. I wasn't. Taxes are like my kryptonite and I didn't do the legwork and compare new accountants to him and he proceeded to charge me his "flat rate" or however he refers to it as for my S-Corp and I am a VERY small business and I paid his $425 rate and didn't think twice. The last year I used his "services", I noticed that after I turned my information over to his company, I was surprised how fast it was turned back over to me. And just as fast came his $425 fee. I finally caught on and used another accountant last year- and he had to learn about my business and do some legwork and charged me $150 for the EXACT SAME SERVICE. This new accountant is every bit as capable as SW&A. So basically SW&A will make sure you don't spend too much on taxes but will let you overspend plenty on him. By the way- I am SURE if my company's taxes were overly complicated and he actually had to put in the extra work, that he would have honored his "flat rate". I cannot state this firmly enough (my opinion here)- if you are in his clutches or are about to be, make 100% sure that you know exactly what you are paying for and compare it to other firms for the same service- Steve ain't better than almost any of them and you won't wind up spending an extra $1000 or so like I did. On a final note, Steve and I were going back and forth and he threatened to turn me over to an attorney- one of his favorite words- if I didn't pay by the 30th (tomorrow). The link he gave me wasn't working so I asked him to send me another one. He said basically F-you, send it fedex or I will see you in court. Over that 15 months, we received no fewer than 5 notices from the IRS that our taxes were reported incorrectly. Our forms were repeatedly filed incorrectly with the state of California, for one quarter they neglected to deduct the money required for a California employer tax that left us with a $13,000 unexpected bill. We have also discovered that our W2s were printed with the incorrect company information for one of our corporations, and I have recently received yet another IRS notice of our taxes not having been filed. Beyond the problems listed above, the worst part is the way they reacted to these issues. The president of the company refuses to take calls and pretends to be out to lunch most of the time, and getting a response to our frantic calls is nearly impossible. They seemed to be perplexed that we were upset about these problems. I question what was being done with our funds after all of the IRS notices we received. I would be happy to speak to anyone privately if they want to discuss these issues and get more details on our problems with Choice Payroll. A company's payroll liability is too important to risk to an organization such as Choice Payroll.
