The 1st 20 minutes were spent on safety & orientation, kayak orientation, and practice. They use 2-person sea kayaks where the person in the aft position steers the kayak using right & left foot pedals. We were joined by 5 other couples including newlyweds from China who had never kayaked before. As testament to the ease in using these kayaks this couple got up to speed quickly & did not hold the group back. amazing hike with incredible scenery!…read more we paid the extra and started the hike from P3. it still ended up being right around 14 miles (including a couple detours we took). it's a strenuous hike for sure, but you don't have to be in top physical shape to do it..just get an early start and take breaks as needed. we started around 7am and we're done around 3pm. we took lots of breaks to rest and take in the sights. the troll's tongue outcropping. we got here right around 1130 and the line was about 20 minutes long. not really a big deal as it was fun to talk to other hikers and learn about where they'd traveled in Norway. weather was perfect for us with a high around 70. we also cut back on how much water we had to carry by filling up at a fast moving stream after the second emergency shelter. this hike is definitely worth the time and effort. you'll be rewarded with some amazing views and a sense of accomplishment

I…read morethink the water fall was one of the biggest attractions here so we decided to purchase tickets for the small black bus that shuttle us here. Tickets were 275 NOK per person so came out to be around 31.86 USD. Bus left at 10am. Took like around 25min to get there from the dock. We had to be on the bus back at 11am. That just left us with only 30min to take photos and look at the scenery. Way too rushed in my opinion but we did it anyway and everyone else did as well. Came with a free coffee. The views are pretty amazing here. The waterfall is not as big as Niagara Falls but the nature and the pristine look of the earths natural beauty was pretty worth the trip up. There are railings that are in place to give you the opportunity to take better photos but please be careful because you might drop your phone by accident and you definitely can't retrieve it. Go on a beautiful sunny day and make sure to savor in God's beautiful creation if you do get a chance to see!

Our Norwegian friends took us here. We were the only ones so we had the waterfall all to ourselves. Parking lot was empty and the souvenir shop already closed. It was late that summer evening, but you would never know it in the land of the midnight sun. Highly recommend dropping by to admire this waterfall if you are anywhere close by. It is not the tallest or largest waterfall in the country, but it is a sight to behold especially if you are a nature lover.

Gayle and I enjoyed walking around town (and surroundings) in the morning, and in the afternoon we took a tour bus for a short journey to the Norsk Natursenter Hardanger or Norwegian Nature Center. One really cool feature of the Nature Center compound is the grass roof on one of the buildings, including a small shed for the goats. That building also houses a decent gift shop and a cafe. The Center itself does a nice job of showcasing various aspects of Norwegian nature, climate, and the environment. It's also an authorised visitor's centre for Hardangervidda National Park. It was a well presented and good learning experience for both of us. And it made us wish for more time in this gorgeous part of Norway.

Wifi is not reliable, but this is a remote area, and be aware of that. Since it is usually not very warm, there is no air conditioning. In the summer for a few weeks, they also have pesky non-biting flies, so you cannot open your windows too wide. Staff was very cheerful, and helpful. Location is right next door to the train station, so you should not have any problems walking with your luggage to the hotel. Be aware there are a few steps to get into the lobby, and your room may be down a flight of stairs. I do not believe they have an elevator. Overall, a little rustic, but a stunning setting, and a wonderful place!
