We have been visiting Southport for a few years now and for one reason or another never made it out…read moreto The Provision Company. We can say we have one and done it now. They were pretty busy during Friday lunch before a big holiday weekend. We got our meal to go because I did not realize that they were not dog friendly. Completely my fault because I did not check ahead. I knew that surrounding places with outdoor dining were so I assumed incorrectly. Not a big deal since there are lots of benches in the area to sit by the waterfront. I ordered the Grouper Salad sandwich, my husband got Thee special that came with 1/2 lb. peel and eat shrimp, crab cake, corn on cob with sides of cocktail and tarter sauce, and my daughter got the regular lunch special with came with shrimp, crab cake, and sauces. Unfortunately, my daughter's lunch only had the 1/4 lb. of shrimp when she opened her box so she had to hoof it back and wait In line again to get her crab cake and sauces. Thankfully, I texted her a copy of the receipt because they gave her a bit of a run around regarding her missing items. I should have gone in there with her. Several staff members asked to see the receipt and then asked if she was sure of what she ordered. If I had known they were going to give her a time, I would have taken care of it myself. Don't get me wrong, I get it. I worked in food service for many years but when a customer shows you a receipt, then tells you there was mistake, and is polite about it, the customer usually doesnt have to explain the issue to multiple people. It is off putting to put the customer to task for your mistake. They gave her a free small drink, which she appreciated. Other than the order mishap, our food was pretty standard. The tarter sauce was nice and thick but was warm. The crab cake was better than some I have had but a bit dry. I cannot say the meal was worth what we spent. My Grouper sandwich was the highlight but for $10.95 and no side it won't be enough for us to return. I am glad we got to try them out while we were there. We have lots of friends that love it. I think our experience would have been better if we had eaten there instead.

Several years ago this was a good place to eat but their food is going downhill. I don't know if…read morethey've changed owners or cooks or what has happened. The customer service is still pretty good but their actual food, not so much. It's not horrible but it's barely passable. But it used to be good. I usually get a burrito or chimichanga but they have become bland and tasteless. Which is strange since it's a Mexican restaurant. You would think there would be more seasoning and more lively flavors but that is not the case here. At least not with those two menu items. When I get a dish that includes rice or beans, they are often cold or barely warm. The last time they spread the rice all over the large plate to make it look like I was getting more than I really was. All that did was make the rice even colder. Even the plate presentation is bland and boring. Sometimes all the food is one color and they don't even bother to sprinkle the plate with a garnish of a few green onions, tomato, or parsley to add some color or visual interest. El Cerro Grande's whole vibe these days is "We don't have very good cooks and we also need to cut corners to save money and we don't really care about the details". This used to be our go-to place where we would meet up with friends for dinner, but we have decided to try some other local Mexican Restaurants. It's not that it's a terrible place, it's just not a very good place either.

I was hungry for Mexican food and drove by this place, so I decided to try it out…read more I ordered a lunch special, the Speedy Gonzalez: A beef taco, chicken enchilada and rice. It came out quickly, along with chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crispy. The salsa was plain. No heat to it. The taco shell had a nice crunch but the beef was bland. Absolutely no flavor. The same with the chicken enchilada. No flavor at all. And the red sauce that topped it tasted like a mix of tomato sauce and ketchup. Really bad lunch. I didn't even finish the enchilada. Service could improve. The waiter never came by to see if I needed anything and I had to wait for a bit to get my bill. The place is pretty noisy with music in the background and hearing noise from the kitchen. Thanks, but I won't be returning here.

This could not have been a better choice to celebrate Michelle's Birthday!…read more I made an advance reservation and we were promptly seated. The staff was prepared with notice it was a special occasion. Our waiter Ethan was a true professional, pleasant and friendly and focused on making our as positive experience. The food was fantastic as expected. This is an elevated experience and a great place for a special occasion. Of course, we had the steaks a rib eye and filet which were perfect! The gumbo was not memorable, the roux was very dark and bit strong, not much seafood, a few small shrimp and some andouille sausage with a dollop of rice in the middle. The steamed broccoli was excellent and the pre-meal bread was a nice addition. We brought our own bottle of wine for the occasion so they offer the 'corking' service. For the finale, Ethan brought a small slice of cake with a candle and sang 'Happy Birthday'! They offer Valet parking as well.

Last night was a major disappointment. We ordered a prime ribeye steak, cooked rare, with two sides, creamed spinach and au gratin potatoes. The sides were great, but the steak was awful ... prepared more more like medium well, dry, and tasteless. If this was a prime steak, they better find a new meat vendor. We will now have second thoughts about returning. There's too much competition in the area to return, particularly at such high prices.
