I highly recommend Robert Wald. He is an honest teacher and a good man. I studied with him for 7 years. My acting improved immensely and he helped me get rid of some of the ideas and bad habits I had about acting.  He teaches a great "way of working" that he learned under legendary acting coach, Charles E. Looking for an acting coach is easy. But trying to find the right one is hard. I was on the fence about looking into acting. I wasn't sure if my passion would be in acting. Life really has its way of waking you up and putting certain people in your life for a reason. What was important for me was to find my passion. Robert helped me appreciate the art in acting. I've been a student at the Robert Wald Actors Studio for a few years now and feel inspired to write down my comments about the teachers and the studio. When I was looking for an acting class, I tried several in San Diego which seemed OK, but didn't really move me. But then I audited a class session with Robert Wald and his assistant Criston Mitchel and I knew this was the place I wanted to study acting. Here the students were not trying to be someone else but rather being themselves on a very deep level. They weren't acting like the characters they were portraying; they became the characters. They were dedicated to being and reacting in the moment. As I found out, this is the kind of acting that casting directors love. Since joining the class, I've learned how to audition with confidence and have had about a dozen character roles in short films, commercials, documentaries and music videos. I started taking classes at Robert Wald Actor's Studio in 2011. I have since moved to LA and truly wish Robert was closer. I drop in for classes when I'm in San Diego. He's got such a good heart and helps current and past students with auditions, roles, and any guidance they may need in an acting job and I've been fortunate enough to have his ongoing guidance. In a nutshell, in Robert's classes you'll get practice in auditioning, cold reads, monologues, 'scene work', and stilling the mind. In addition to improving my acting, many positive effects came along with his technique of training such as confidence with public speaking, trusting my intuition, being directable as an actor, and more. Two very important observations I made is: Robert wants all of his students to succeed and won't tell you what you want to hear if it's not going to help you. I find this very valuable. I have been studying with the Robert Wald Actors Studio since 2007. There's a reason I haven't sought out a different teacher. To me, Robert and the studio is hands down, San Diego's best kept acting secret. When you want to get into acting, learn about the craft, or even have a little bit of experience, it's easy to come with preconceived notions of what acting is, and also assume that your teacher will automatically tell you, that you are great since you are paying for classes. That is what is so refreshing about Robert. His passion and honesty. The first thing he will do is really break it down, of what acting is, being in the moment, paying attention to everything and respond organically with how you feel versus how you think the line should be said. How many times have you tried to plan a conversation with someone only to have it go in the opposite direction you had planned? So why bother with that in your acting?
