There is recessed entrance a large vertical windows on the second and third stories. The roof line is flat. In the interior, the main courtroom is located on the third story and has a balcony on the rear side. Johnston County was formed in 1746 and Clayton was selected as the county seat with the county's first courthouse. The seat was moved to Smithfield in 1771 and the new courthouse was built here. A third courthouse was built in 1786 and then a fourth in 1843. This one is the fifth and is considered "the old courthouse" as the current one was built in the 1980s. There is a Civil War marker on the front steps - General William T Sherman used the 1771 courthouse as his headquarters on his march toward Raleigh. On April 12th 1865 Sherman received a telegram from General Ulysses S Grant informing him of General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox while in Smithfield. There is also a WWI memorial with a "doughboy" holding his rifle "In memory of the illustrious dead of Johnston County who died in the Great World War 1917-1919" with a list of names. It is the third to serve as the county courthouse, a three-story structure of Indiana limestone and concrete in a Renaissance Revival architecture. It was completed in 1923, designed by architect Christopher Gadsden Sayre. It does not have columns instead is a symmetrical building with somewhat limited ornamentation. Sayre's works are known for proportion and integration of classical motifs into public architecture, such as the Wiley Elementary School in Raleigh and the former John Graham High School in Warrenton. The courtroom is on the second floor and I was not able to tour it this afternoon. Moore County itself was established in 1784, carved from Cumberland County and named for Alfred Moore, a Revolutionary War veteran and U.S. Supreme Court justice. The courthouse is still used for county records , courts , and other government offices . Walking the halls is like going back in time .

You ask for a copy of the alleged ticket, all notices regarding a court appearance being required for a ticket issued to an out of state driver and they refuse to supply anything. Fast forward to 2008, the same out of state driver's license that allegedly received the ticket and driving privileges in Nort Carolina being suspended in North Carolina came back with no problems when supplied for a traffic stop. Instead of dealing with the incompetence you get a total due and call to confirm they received the check, they confirm they received the check but it's for more then is due. They provide a receipt in the mail showing every amount apparently the word refund on the receipt means addition to those morons. The total was 421.00 plus 20.00 for installment plan(which there wasn't) so 441.00 total then refund of 20.00 for the installment plan total 461.00. Received the refund today 20.00 not 40.00. They give anyone your information, I called once and couldn't deal with the stupidity of the person I talked to. My girlfriend called and got all the information including the date of the ticket, the driver's license and number they issued the ticket to, not once did they ask to speak with me to get my permission to release any information like I said morons.

These rise to a wide entablature that frames the recessed third story, I would describe it as neither Modernist nor Classical Revival, as the building has a sense of classical gravitas while maintaining a contemporary footprint. The interior has a grand staircase rising to the second story and five courtrooms. The building houses the County Superior Court and County District Court of the 13th Judicial District. The government complex is massive and so there is plenty of parking that is a short walk to the building. It is not open on the weekends and even if it was, cameras are not permitted inside. I have visited four different North Carolina DMV locations, and unfortunately, three out of the…read morefour (Elm St., Spring Lake, and Clinton Rd.) experiences were extremely disappointing. The staff I encountered at those locations were rude, dismissive, and showed no concern for customer service. After explaining my situation clearly including the fact that I am an active service member in the Armed Forces and that I was on leave on a limited amount of time to handle my affairs. I was met with attitudes that can only be described as disrespectful and unprofessional. At times, it felt as if their approach was, "We don't care about you, we'll do what we want, when we want." That is unacceptable for any state service, especially one that so many people rely on. There was no sense of urgency, compassion, or professionalism and being told if I have a problem with how they serve patrons to take it up with the commissioner The one exception to this experience was Mr. Anderson at the DMV on Gillespie, who was very polite, respectful, and professional. His customer service stood out in a very positive way, and I sincerely appreciate the way he treated me. Unfortunately I will have to submit another leave in a couple of months to complete my affairs, he definitely went above and beyond to make sure that when I do return I won't have to go through too much and everything will go smoothly. Overall, the DMV needs to do better in how they train and hold their staff accountable. North Carolina residents and especially those who serve our country deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Lee and became the 98th county in the state. The county seat, Sanford, was named after railroad engineer Col. Charles Ogburn Sanford. The rise of the railroad played a major role in the county's formation, as residents of Sanford found travel to Moore County's seat in Carthage too burdensome. The junction of two major rail lines helped Sanford grow rapidly, eventually leading to the merger of Sanford and Jonesboro in 1947. The courthouse was built in 1908, shortly after the county was formed. It is a two-story rectangular brick building in the Classical Revival style with Ionic brick columns and a small dome atop its hipped roof. It was designed by Charles McMillan who is also responsible for a number of North Carolina structures including the Masonic Temple in Wilmington and the Grand Lodge Masonic Temple in Raleigh. Unfortunately, the courthouse is under massive remodeling with a large fence around the front. I was not able to see the front lobby. The rear entrance does look pretty boring for a hallway with terrazzo floors. Today, Lee County is known as the "brick making capital" of the United States and hosts the Sanford Pottery Festival, a major cultural event. The grounds of the courthouse include a huge parking lot, the interment of Jacob Gaster (a Revolutionary War hero) and the restored Court Bell. when you need justice and not be discriminated against this is the not the place you will receive…read moreit. the corruption is so severe i wont be surprised that the state will turn over convictions after an explosive documentary. there is no reason why courts should take 4 years for a judgment. the inside is clean, that is the only positive remark anyone can say abouit this. hire a law firm from another county if you want to prevail with your case. also, child support gets forced on you even when you prove you cannot afford it. luckily when you can afford an attorney you wont face this, when you choose to allow the court to provide the attorney that is when you find out they are all in favor of assisting the court win. local lawyers wont even take cases to trial because they dont want to look like a threat and rather convince people to take deals rather than actually defend their client. the inspector general should investigate to concur this information. i wont even comment on district judges because that will be a longer review, but i will add that there are specific reasons why certain judges are given cases. it is no coincidence that corruption comes from the judges that are ready to retire. hope this helps.
