I've been coming to Pilates Story for years now and it's honestly one of the best decisions I've made for my fitness. Hye-Yeon, the owner, has done an incredible job creating a welcoming space in West Portal. As a guy, I wasn't sure what to expect from Pilates at first, but she and her team made me feel completely comfortable from day one. The instructors are knowledgeable, encouraging, and know how to challenge you while still respecting your limits. What I really appreciate is how Hye-Yeon is building a sense of community here. It's not just about getting a great workout (which you definitely will), but also about connecting with people and feeling like you're part of something bigger. The studio is clean, modern, and has all the equipment you need for a solid session. Whether you're new to Pilates or have some experience, this is the place to be. If you're a guy thinking about trying Pilates, I highly recommend giving this studio a shot. It's an awesome way to build strength, improve flexibility, and stay balanced--plus, you'll feel right at home with the friendly atmosphere Hye-Yeon has created in the neighborhood!

Beyond just offering a stellar workout, the sense of community at Pilates Story really stands out. It's more than a place to exercise; it's a space to connect with others and be inspired by the positive energy all around. If you're on the fence about trying Pilates, especially if you're a guy who's unsure of what to expect, don't hesitate--this studio is an ideal spot to gain strength, flexibility, and confidence. One of the things I like the most is that it's not all 20-something Marina girls (who are lovely people and belong there too!) -- there are older women and men, and all body and ability types. The studio itself is clean and aesthetically pleasing -- and calming. The showers are nice and the infrared sauna is such a nice treat. Highly recommend checking out MNT.

Pilates was suggested from my rheumatologist and my physical therapist. Started with some entry level group classes and found i loved them but also knew I need more 1 on 1 to ensure I was doing everything correctly for my EDS issues. Met Ramlah and now work with her 2-3 days per week when I am in the city. Only disappointing thing about this particular facility is they don't have a lot of formation classes, which are the ones you take in the beginning. Fortunately, I'm in a place where I am able to pay for privates, but I don't know if this is the place to come and learn in a group environment as they have so few classes. I found a couple of studios in my area that do offer them and will continue with privates but take some groups elsewhere that offer entry level classes the focus on form. ]

It's very clean and I love the changes in the lighting they use during the classes. The customer service here is really good. Kelsie is the sweetest and always so helpful. And all of instructors that I've had so far have all been great. It's a "push yourself, but no pressure" type setting and I love that as someone that is still getting comfortable with the reformer. I hate that the changing/locker room is so small and I am often times left standing there waiting my turn to grab my things or rushing to get my locker together for a class, but that truly my only complaint. I also wished they could do a better job of airing out the room after a class. --maybe spraying a fragrance/deodorizer. This is a good, convenient location for afterwork and I've because of that, I've been in attendance at least once a week. It's not cheap, but not too expensive. I usually try to let the instructor know beforehand that I'm still getting familiar with the movements, and they usually suggest that I set myself up at the front of the room and/or next to someone who is more experienced. Most instructors tend to check in on me a bit more throughout the class, which is always appreciated. I try to go to daytime classes during the week if I'm available - those classes are a bit quieter and don't get too busy. That being said, even if you went at a "busy" time on a weekday evening or during the weekend, you shouldn't run into issues if you signed up in advance since it's one reformer per person anyway - it just means you might have fewer spot options if you don't arrive early enough. I like the variety of focuses/classes that BODYROK offers, so even though I don't plan to become a regular, I definitely see myself continuing to drop in from time to time in the future.

My only wish was that I had found this studio earlier when I lived just a block or two away, I would have been here all the time. I took Jen's class -- she's the owner -- and it's nice to find someone who is so nice, passionate and involved in her business. The space is small but has 5-6 reformers, some other equipment and one bathroom. Note that there's no separate changing area other than the one bathroom so if you're going to cut it close to the class, it may be best to change at home. The reformer class was excellent and was focus and controlled and I got a good workout in. Jen took the time to explain everything and made sure we were doing the moves correctly. Even though I didn't really sweat in the class, I did feel a little sore in my abs the next day and still got a god workout in. Would highly recommend this place if you like pilates classes like Body Chemistry in the Mission or Mercury Fitness in the Marina. These are the kinds of pilates studios I love to find and frequent. I don't really love the BodyRok or Core40 classes as much since they go too fast, seem very repetitive in the movements/exercises, and don't focus on form. These kind of classes are more of the opposite. 5 stars. Looking forward to taking another class here next time I'm back in San Francisco.

Raisa and Rachel seemed to intuitively recognize our skills and motivated us with realistic movements. This was our first experience scheduling private sessions of any kind, but it has proven to be ideal for us because Raisa and Rachel personalize each session to whatever discomfort or pain we are experiencing that week. We are also the only ones in the studio during our session, making it genuinely private. If you have a stiff shoulder in the middle of a session, they have the depth and breadth of understanding to identify the muscle in question and immediately shift you to an optimum exercise.
