It was renamed in 2020, for NASA mathematician, Katherine Johnson, exemplifying the school's focus on values and equity. The school's teachers and faculty worked hard to get my 7th grader acclimated to the middle school environment and made the transition very smooth. My child has come home singing the praises of multiple teachers. I'm very grateful for their support and guidance as we all know these teen years can pose many challenges.

I've been the multiple high schools before as I am a military student and as I was PCS from California to Virginia where I am now I was excited because you know big school new friends hallelujah right? Wrong. So getting into the school as a military student, they fucked up my transcript and all my credits so my mother and I had to fight to get my credits transferred from California to Virginia because they've never done this before. Excuse me you are a purple star, School and you've never done this before with the military student. Are you insane? Anyways the only reason there are purple star school is because I spoke at the purple star like speech thing and so you know that's something I did by the way. So I came in second semester of sophomore year, so I finished that my geometry teacher was my favorite teacher of all time at the school no doubt about it. If we're talking the arts program, I personally was a choir kid which is really good and we were able to grab our numbers in the three years from when I joined so that was good. Fast-forward to junior year around mid early October shit started happening. I'm very religious. I am a Jew. I am very proud of my Jewishness, in a very proud of the people that I surround myself with as a Jew. My friend got Nazi salute that on a bus they were small because everywhere I got hate crime. Multiple of my other Jewish friends got hate crimes and my parents had to go up to the school and threaten them to keep me and my friend safe because I did not want to go to school. My mental health got so bad during this time. Period that I had to wake up and tear myself out of my bed because that's how fucking bad the administration of this fucking school did not handle antisemitism or racism because it wasn't just antisemitism because there were multiple people making multiple comments about so many other things that surrounding me my friend group I was pissed junior year flies by I fucking hate crime. I have to have this whole conversation with a girl who said some fuck shit to me in front of my friends I was talking to them and I got fucking pissed right fast-forward to senior year. My friend goes into the boys bathroom and there is still a swastika from the previous school year. there have been multiple swat sightings throughout, said school year and there has been nothing done about it. The only person who really did anything about anything was my parent and Miss Hampton because those are the people who actually looked out for your children and who actually looked out for me in my family so no the school is a fucking piece of shit. The admin are absolutely insane. It won't do anything about anything. Anyways, this school sucks don't go here. I'm so fucking mad at the school.

I have never been in this school and I wanted to see what this event was all about. The first thing I see upon entering is a business called Feeling Foxy Confections. The lady and I were both wearing fox shirts and we hit it off well. Looking around I saw some items but did not want to buy her product just yet. I told her I would be back later on. The next real station that caught my eye is a self publisher by the name of C.J Brightley. I am looking at a book called The Wraith and The Rose. This might be the first book I read of hers...okay, I just went back to the school and bought her book for twenty six dollars after tax. I learned that C.J Brightly has a sequel to this book coming out soon. She signed my book twice. I a very much inspired to get my books published. The next person I met is another author and book designer. He goes by the name Larry Issa. He writes children's books and has a new book that just came out. I admire what these two authors have done. The rest of the school look fine, but none of the other stations got my attention like the three table stations I saw. Stopping by W.T Woodson High School was worth it today.

They have really messed up the math department and student grades have suffered. A couple years…read moreago my son was in an OHS math class and started complaining about the teaching style. I met with an assistant principal and she explained that the school was implementing a collaborative teaching style in math class. I think most of the kids were used to a structured learning environment and the school made the math department, or at least some of the math classes, collaborative, and it was a disaster. Many parents complained and the school had a parent-teacher conference which turned into a small riot. But the school didn't change anything and now my daughter is going through those same math classes and has the same complaints - the teacher isn't teaching. She used to have good math grades but now she is getting average grades and is frustrated. This collaborative teaching style seems like a failed experiment the school just won't walk away from.

Every school in Fairfax county has to abide by the cell phone policy and I find it problematic because listening to music helps me focus and Spotify is blocked on the computers and Pandora has too many ads. Most kids are nice and the teachers try, not all of them are perfect but they do their jobs. I am looking back at horror stories from when they were renovating this place so I'm glad we're not going through that anymore! One of my teachers let me make the seating chart because she didn't want to. I don't like the metal detectors, according to the school news paper 77% of kids think that they don't improve safety. But not really something I can control they have them at all secondary schools in Fairfax. (Or at least are trying to). One of my friends backpacks keeps going off because it has metal attached to it so they get stopped every morning. There is a crowd for everyone here and it is genuinely one of the best schools I've attended. The staff is wonderful and my councilor is wonderful. They have a lot of programs and even though the classes are stressful because Fairfax... they can be really fun. If you find an unblocked game website you're good to go! A lot of people who were students come back as teachers because they enjoyed it, might see me as a teacher here in a few years, not quite sure what I want to be though. If it were up to me, I would remove the SOLS but I can't do that. Also it's overcrowded and the halls regularly come to a standstill multiple times a day. I thought I might miss the place when I graduated, but I loathe this school nearly two years later. I only hope my generation can fix the mess you all made of the school system. Grow as a community and try to think what it's like being a young adult treated this way before your students resent you more than they already do.

This review is for black people considering working at Luther Jackson or black parents considering…read moreLJ as a positive learning environment for their students. This story is about a black substitute teacher. It was 1:00 PM. That was the time just written in the logout book. The substitute teacher then gave his ID badge to a short elderly white woman admin. He left the office and proceeded to the front waiting area. While in the area, he noticed that the gym students were doing some type of test so they were not in their normal PE clothes. The teacher never spoke to nor interacted with anyone during this time. It had been about 5 minutes since the teacher had left the office. The same woman he had given his ID badge to cam up to him and said that he had to sit down by the front door or wait outside. He told her that he would do no such thing and that he worked for FCPS Fairfax County Public Schools and he knew that was not a requirement of its employees. He then said that the woman was racially harassing him and that he recognized her behaviour as such. The "lady" leaves and no more than 5 minutes later police officer comes over to the teacher and asks him to leave or wait outside. He can tell that the officer is only doing what was requested of him. The teacher again refuses to leave. No more than 5 minutes go by and again 2 assistant principals arrive to continue the harassment of the teacher. They tell him he is creating a disturbance. He disagrees. In the middle of their arguing the teachers ride called and he leaves mid-argument. He had a teacher request him for the next day. The students, "Respect and like you." was her rationale for asking him to sub her science class. But he knew that the racist white admins at Luther Jackson would, and did, prevent him from ever subbing at his alma matter again. Luther Jackson is a less than ideal environment for black children. They have no support from the culturally incompetent and racist white people that make the decisions there.
