Seats should be comfortable, the screen should be digital and clear, the theater should be cold but not too cold and the popcorn should be awesome. Theater Mall Cinemas offered just that especially with the amazing popcorn that they sell! While the theater can get extremely cold in the middle of the movie, it might just be a cute reason to cuddle up with your hubby. Or perhaps bring a nice cardigan or jacket to show off. I'm glad to see the Greenhills continued to improve their facilities by opening more theaters at the Promenade side. Bigger. better, yummier and definitely cleaner. Despite the competition just next door, I'm glad Theater Mall continues to maintain its clean and comfortable theaters.

So, my default theater had to be Theatermall, and it's kinda amazing to me how it has barely changed in over a decade. I suppose that's one of the biggest compliments I can possibly give a theater: it has remained clean and comfortable longer than its competitors. While other cinemas have inevitably had their floors transform into flytraps and had their apholstery disintegrate into itching powder, Theater mall has done well to keep things in a fresh state. The aging theater will need a hardware refresh in the coming years, but they'll hopefully keep the structure and the memories intact.

Why do I like Promenade you ask... Do you remember the story of Goldilocks? like the one she always chooses is the one that's just right? Well, that's Promenade Theatres for me. It's the most comfortable, the seats are just right, so is the air conditioning and because I've been watching movies there for years now, it just feels like home. I love bringing snacks in, come on, who doesn't? and their snack bar typically has everything that I need. Their drink selection always has something new, maybe to shake things up a bit. So I always try whatever's new and I get myself a bag of chips! Oh and if you or your child needs some seat booster, the thing you put in your seat to give you a better view of the screen, they have it too. If you have a camera with you they do make you leave it with the guard but don't worry because they do really keep an eye on it OR if you're uncomfortable with this arrangement you can always leave it in your car. Another is that movies are plain great, cheap thrills... unless you're a total cheapskate and love resorting to torrenting crappy low-res versions of movies. To me, Promenade Cinema 8 is one of the best theatres that Manila has to offer, primarily because it was one of the first rooms that offer the astounding and dynamic acoustics of the Dolby Atmos system. This thing is a game-changer, I tell you. Suddenly big blockbuster flicks are even bigger and better without having the crummy and dizzying gimmick that is 3D. All for the same price as a movie in any other cinema, so why not? The only downside of Promenade Cinema 8 is sometimes, the theatre can get EXTREMELY cold. So make sure to bring a jacket.

Seats are comfortable, there is ample leg room and the acoustics provide a better and crisper sound. The cinemas are also adjacent to good restaurants where you can grab a bite in after the movie. So whenever there are big movies coming up, The Podium Cinema is always on top of my list of considerations - comfortable, quiet and secluded.

The seats are comfortable and the sound quality is very good. The fact that Madeca is also in the same floor makes it even better. If you don't feel like trying the Fil-Mex place, there are also other restaurants to grab a bite from before you watch your movie.

I feel like this film festival is already like a holiday to us Filipinos because it's nationalistic to the core. It promotes and supports solely Filipino films running from December to January the next year in all theaters nationwide. But for others who still want to watch foreign films, 3D and IMAX theaters are excluded (if you didn't know). During the start of the festival, there's a parade of floats that represents each film included in the festival. It's quite an event for the masses since the actors and actresses greets people from their respective floats. The traffic gets pretty heavy so don't pass by Parañaque and Roxas Boulevard where the parade takes place this year. Important to know first hand! It's usually chaotic and super crowded since Filipinos love their celebrities. XD During this festival season, I usually watch comedy, documentaries or historical movies as I seem to be drawn towards them and I always highly enjoy them. Most of their films are also highly commercialized so if you're into those kinds of films, this festival is for you. There's also an awards night which is great to give due credit to the filmmakers that deserve the recognition.

Because who could resist Oh with his hands in the air like he just doesn't care? We drove to the nearest and probably still open Gateway Cineplex10. PROS: This is the most accessible and decent movie place for me. If it's nighttime, like last full shows, and traffic isn't too bad, Gateway Cineplex10 is our off-the-top-of-the-head choice; We like that they show quality local indie films like Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa and Eugene Domingo's Instant Mommy (I just love her!); The audio, video, and even seating of the Cineplex10 are not bad. It's comfortable and you are not in fear of bedbugs. CONS: We had the worst popcorn experience here, and we made the even more stupid mistake of ordering the biggest size they had. They *literally* scooped ours straight from a huge plastic bag. It was stale and cold and I hated it; They just had one attendant available, when there was like around 5 stalls that should've been available. I'm thinking if it's because it's in the evening already or if it's the weekday. TL;DR: Easy and worry-free cinematic viewing experience. Better bring your own snacks, though.

While we have to rid of this stereotype, here's one of the things we could do to show our appreciation to our Italian brothers and sisters: support their film festival! One of my favourite Italian movies is Le Notti di Cabiria (Nights in Cabiria). To be fair, I only heard about this from Gossip Girl because Dan said Blair cried at the end of this movie. That's when I started immersing myself into learning about Italian films. And no, I haven't dared to watch Salo. I'm not ready yet. Yikes. That was not a smooth segue. The film festival used to be held in November but for some reason, last year, they held it in July for 5 days. There are three categories to choose from in the festival. These are: Italian Showcase, Educational Component and Classic Retrospective. Their lineup is very well-rounded! Some time ago, they even invited actors, actresses and filmmakers for a red carpet event in Greenbelt. They make it really grande, these Italians. ALSO, and I know this makes your eyes beam and have probably wondered how much it is per movie. The festival is completely FREE. Last year's festivities was held in Shangri-la Cineplex. And they release tickets 30 minutes prior to the start of the show. There are a couple of months left, guys! MovieMov 4 will knock our socks off!

And the fact that the Italian culture is pretty similar to the Filipino culture. The people of both countries are friendly, warm, religious, family-oriented and love home-cooked food among other things. I'm sure when presented with an opportunity, this opportunity, Filipinos will love Italian cinema as well. And for the Italian expats, here's a piece of home! The film festival always creates a great lineup of different genre-d films, mostly critically acclaimed ones so it's a sure bet that movie lovers wouldn't be disappointed. After all, Robinson's Place Manila has a great location. It's nearest to a lot of schools and is the only mall near a lot of schools that offers an actual cinema. Their cinema is graet. I mean, it's kinda hard to have a cinema that's horrible. In fact, I've never been in one to be quite honest. That said, I don't think there's anything out of this world and spectacular about their movie houses. They've upgraded one of their cinemas to feature 3D movies for those who are interested in that sort of thing. Sp yeah, if you're from a school along Taft avenue and find yourself on a date, maybe you should go on and try out. The movies are great and the prices are reasonable.
