Up until today, we have had a decent experience with this office, the doctor, and the treatment…read moreplan. We have had numerous appointments here since March. Each time, we arrived for our scheduled appointments without any issues and without ever needing to confirm any of them. Many of these visits have been weekly or biweekly for ongoing treatment. On the rare occasions we needed to reschedule due to illness or in school testing, we called and had no problems doing so. During our very recent appointments, just last week and the week before, we were never told about any new confirmation policy or a reinforcement of a previous one, as they now claim. Today, we arrived for our 9 a.m. appointment and were told that because we did not respond to their text message or call the office to confirm, they canceled our appointment, gave it to someone else, and could not fit us in. Mind you, last week was Thanksgiving, and I was not particularly focused on the dozens of spam texts I was receiving. I find this to be an extremely unprofessional business practice. It is frustrating and shows a complete disregard for our time, especially when this was a scheduled appointment that we showed up for. There was no notice that confirmation was required. Out of roughly six or so appointments since March, I have randomly responded and confirmed one of them. We have always simply arrived for our scheduled appointment with no issue. When I expressed my frustration and pointed out the lack of communication, I received the same response many others mention in their reviews: essentially, "find another doctor if you do not like it." That alone speaks volumes about their lack of care for their patients, likely the same tone they will use responding to this review while attempting to shift the blame back onto me. But there has never been any precedent or communication requiring confirmation for any prior appointment. Most doctors send out reminders, which is normal, but this is the only one I know of that will cancel your appointment entirely for not confirming. If we did that at my company, we would be out of business or potentially sued for discrimination if we were not consistently canceling every person who failed to confirm. Sadly, their pattern of responses seems to be responding with "clarifications" and no accountability, that conveniently place all the fault on the patient, knowing we cannot reply to their responses. So, since they do not have the transparency to clearly communicate this, I will for them... If you are reading reviews to decide whether to choose this dentist, be aware that if you do not confirm your appointment, they will cancel it without hesitation, without apology, and without warning. They will simply fall back on an "existing policy" that they never bothered to share. And if they start adding the requirement to confirm appointments into their text reminders, you are welcome. That was my recommendation, and they agreed it would be a good idea. Hopefully they don't cancel my future appointments in retaliation for providing this feedback. Instead, hopefully they figure out a new policy or practice to make theirs better. Edit 1/21- since I cannot respond to their response: Your response was well predicted as I stated in my review. However, you are still not being consistent with your "policy" as we had an appointment this week that I did not have to confirm. Edit 2/3 - And now they have dismissed our child from their practice, mid treatment, which we weren't informed of until we arrived for our appointment this morning and again wasted our time AGAIN. "They claimed to have mailed it." For a practice who claims to be "community-oriented", this is how they treat a child of the community... A CHILD. I have not made any inaccurate public statements; these are all facts. I am simply sharing them, and will continue to do so, so others can be warned about your inconsistent policies and lack of care, and can decide for themselves how desperate they would need to be to accept being treated this way. Full review on google, including their dismissive responses.

Upon entering, your child will have a play area to the right that is always streaming Disney movies. Further back are individual examination chairs and rooms. Bright colors and calm environment that is an immediate stress reducer for apprehensive children (and parents). Dr. Makrum has excellent bedside manner, speaks to the children in a relatable manner, while being very gentle and calm as she explains what she is going to do. Our daughter loves going to see her and always asks when her next appointment is. Recently, our daughter chipped her tooth while playing on the playground. It was a Saturday and the practice was closed but we left a message on the emergency line. Within minutes, Dr. Makrum was calling, asking what happened, having us text photos and then recommended a course of treatment at an emergency dentist. She stayed in contact until the tooth was repaired and then had us come in the following week to inspect the work. You won't find a better pediatric dentist!!

However, getting in and out during appointments is still a breeze. We've never waited more than 5 minutes past their appointment time and I've never waited over 30 minutes for the appointment to be over. We used to go to an extremely popular pediatric dentist in Palm Harbor where the waiting room would be packed, we waited at least an hour past our appointment time and you couldn't leave without a high pressured up sell. Not at pediatric dentistry of westchase...in and out, no pressure and great service. The office staff is extremely friendly, there are plenty of up to date periodicals to read in the waiting room and the facility is always clean. Highly recommended.

It was our first time at Dr. Jerry's practice and I was beyond impressed by the ease of in-take (thank you to the front desk ladies), how the hygienists explained the tools to my girls, and the depth of care and time-spent with girls' teeth. I honestly feel like we found a "secret diamond" of dental care in Tampa. Dr. Jerry took his time explaining everything to me (he is considerate and warm, and doesn't make you feel rushed), and on the FUN side, he wears silly Ninja turtle socks and tiger stripe pants! After the cleaning, your children get to pick their own toothbrush and bag of goodies, and at the very end, the kids get a token to pick something from the machine-my girls LOVED it! So happy to have found a new home for our girls' dental care!

Today Amanda helped my daughter. She was very thorough in explaining what was going to be done. She walked us through each task and made sure my daughter was comfortable the entire time. As my daughter finished, she came and got me and told me how everything went. We checked out and she was given a token to pick out a prize from one of their machines. We were able to schedule her next appointment right away and was told we would also get a text reminder when the appointment was near.

This practice has a common issue of Over-billing. They tell you they take your insurance then you…read moreend up with a larger bill than you should for what insurance "did not cover". I was concerned for my daughters teeth as a new tooth was coming in behind her current teeth, I exchanged consult messages with them and photos (My child was a current client) and was advised the earliest they could get me in was two weeks, and they needed an xray to confirm the new tooth was not absorbing the old roots. As a parent, not knowing anything about dental, this made me freak out worse and feel the need of a sooner appointment. Two weeks later and my wife took my daughter to the appointment today, she was in and out in less than 6 minutes for the grand charge of $150 plus my insurance is being billed. My wife was told this is very common and nothing to be concerned with. The consult messages only mentioned this may be common AFTER they booked an appointment and scheduled X-Rays. I then started to research it and it is very common, called "Shark Teeth" and unless the child is feeling pain there is no need for a dental appointment or alarm. I was never asked about her feeling pain, or told of just how common this was, instead they used a parents concern for their child to schedule a meaningless appointment to milk us for money. This was 100% a cash grab, and prior appointments were the same. They bill insurance, then hit you with 2-300% what the typical cost for services are, and I would assume its solely due to the location in South Tampa and the expectation we are willing to be taken advantage of or pay more.

This practice goes above and beyond. My kids beg me to go back. Today my not even 2 year old went…read moreback with her brother and let the assistants brush and count her teeth! Dr. Lauren is world class!
