Wow - just WOW! Last Sunday (November 22, 2020) I finally got to check Rock Climbing off my bucket list, thanks to "Rock Climb Every Day" (yes, they are taking reservations during COVID and implementing all the necessary COVID protocols). Last year I successfully climbed to the top of Yosemite's Half Dome - without a doubt, it was one of the most memorable + accomplishment-filled outdoorsy adventures I've ever experienced. My first rock climbing adventure is definitely up there. In fact, my Half Dome adventure is what sparked my interest in Rock Climbing. By the way, if you're looking for an amazing Half Dome experience, I highly recommend REI Adventures and book with Scott - be sure to check out my 5-star "Half Dome Day Hike" Yelp review. Scott is an avid Rock Climber and he knows all the cool and underground rock climbing spots :) I've found that it's challenging to find people who love outdoorsy adventures like me. So, I usually end up doing these type of activities solo. I book directly through adventure companies to help ensure I have a safe, education and of course a FUN experience. Booking through "Rock Climb Every Day" couldn't have been more perfect from start to finish. In fact, I'm looking forward to booking another adventure with them. They cater to all levels of rock climbing from beginners to experienced. Most of all, they know how to make outdoor rock climbing easy and fun. They offer beginner rock climbing classes, rock climbing adventures, rappelling adventures, private instruction, family climbing packages, multi-day packages, parties + groups, climbing anchor class, sport climbing, trad climbing and much more! I consider myself a complete novice rock climber. Absolutely no experience - not even indoor climbing. Crazy, right? But I do consider myself athletic as I competed as a pro-Am Muay Thai fighter for almost a decade. Even with that kind of experience, I found the climb to challenging, scary, but most of all, FUN. Our instructor Jim was knowledgeable, timely, communicative and fun! Without his guidance, I don't think I could have made it to the top of the 5.7 climb. He was there every step (literally every inch) of the way. It was truly a "team" effort. We completed 6 climbs ranging from 5.4 to 5.7 (level of difficulty). There were a total of 4 people in our group. 2 had some indoor experience and the other 2 (including myself) had zero experience. And let me tell you - I'm scared to death of heights. Scared AF!!! But isn't it amazing how the BEST things that ever happen in LIFE are the ones we were resistant to get involved with because of fear?? Trust me, it's not easy but stop running away from fear, run towards it! If you don't take action now, you likely never will. Your fears will win + will continue to win until you break the pattern. Start saying YES to fear. The scarier something is, the more you need to do it. I couldn't have overcome my fear of rock climbing without the help + guidance of "Rock Climb Every Day." Yesterday my family went on a full day climbing adventure with Jim from Rock Climb Every Day. It was beyond amazing! The three of us were not experienced and Jim spent the time to make sure we felt comfortable yet challenged. He demonstrated all of the safety measures that were in place and explained each step to make us feel as comfortable as possible. I never once felt unsafe the entire day. We first went to an area to test our capabilities and try out a few different techniques that Jim had been telling us about. Jim set everything up quickly and kept us informed during the entire process. On our first climb we all definitely struggled a little bit, but Jim talked us through each of the steps to get to the top! Reaching the top of the mountain was an amazing feeling! After we did a few climbs here, Jim suggested we try some other areas. We ended up doing another two climbs further into the park. They were difficult and at one point I did not think I was going to make it up, but Jim somehow got me to the top! The climbing community in general was a pretty cool sight to see as they all know each other and seem to be very helpful and welcoming. I would recommend Jim any day! He is extremely knowledgable about not only climbing but about the park as well. This makes it very easy for him to fit the day around whatever you are looking to do. Once you get started he will make sure he finds you the perfect place to climb! Tips: - Be ready for a full day of adventure! Bring snacks/lunch and wear comfortable shoes and clothing...wear sunscreen! - The earlier you go the better because the rocks tend to get more crowded as the day goes on - Go into the day with an open mind, Jim or any of the other instructors make sure you have the best time Would definitely do this again. Our guide Jim went above and beyond what we expected. We booked a Half Day Rock Climbing Adventure with 5 people. A 6th person joined us, which worked out well. Jim quickly set us up on two top ropes with easier routes to get going. We split into groups of three and Jim taught everyone how to belay. The third person of each group was a belay backup for safety. Jim provided lots of advice while we all climbed 3-4 routes. After that we could have been done considering we booked a half-day, but Jim took us to another location where we got to try out two more challenging routes. I also spent another day later in the week alone with Jim. He gave me a great overview of anchor building and trad climbing. Exactly what I was looking for. Fit in a ton of instruction for a short period of time. Gave me a good base of knowledge to get me climbing outdoors. My guide Jim was fantastic. I did a four hour private trip in Joshua Tree. He was very informative, made me feel safe and actually knew what he was talking about. Answered any questions I had and helped me get up parts were I was stuck. I really enjoyed how he would only make suggestions if I asked. He allowed me to figure things out on my own. Unless it was unsafe then he would make other suggestions. I will be doing this for sure and I will ask for Jim by name. I will say I did not expect crack climbing when I signed up. I work out and run Spartan Races but boy is my whole body sore today lol. You will use areas of your body you typically do not use. This sport is way more mental than physical. But overall it is amazing and very rewarding. read more

My experience with Rock Climb Everyday was amazing from my first inquiry call to the repelling experience. Olga was informative and responsive. In fact, I "butt dialed" their number, and she called me back apologizing she had missed my call, asking how she could help me. Customer service like I have never experienced! On to our adventure. Jim, our guide, was RAD (sorry, I am an 80s kid, and this is the first word that comes to my mind for him!). He was fun, informative, protective, attentive, and funny! He was patient with my nervousness. I can't say enough about our experience in Joshua Tree with him. I had trouble with one of my repells, but his enthusiasm, love and respect for the sport makes me want to conquer that rock. And I will only re-attempt if he is my guide again. Olga is the best instructor a first time climber could ask for. After climbing in the gym for a few weeks, I was itching to try outdoor climbing and i was so happy to have met Olga. I went out to climb with her in Joshua Tree and we had a full day blast! Climbing outdoor is very different from climbing indoor. It just requires more skills, knowledge, confident, and techniques and that's why i think that it's important for everyone to take at least a class from a professional. Climbing outdoor is extremely dangerous because if you don't know how to set up anchor well or familiar with the rock, it could be the last time you ever climb. Olga is a very experienced climber but she is still always so careful about everything which I really appreciate because it helped me being more confident on the rope. I'd like to describe my climbing experience with Olga beyond just a class but it was rather an experience. She knew so much about climbing and the location that I felt like I was on a national geographic expedition or something. And the greatest thing about taking a class with Olga is that you will get to connect with other new climbers and get invited to future climbing trips with other students, which is something that no other climbing school really offers. Great Experience! I signed up for Rock Climbing Anchors Class and my instructor was Richard (Rick) Eastburn. He was very knowledgeable and in a short amount of time I was able to learn different types of anchors in different situations whether with gear, natural anchors or bolts. I highly recommend taking this anchoring class over others. I had some friends take anchoring class with REI and we realized quickly that I had a lot more knowledge of the anchors that Rick was a lot more thorough. (well either that or I retained more than my friends). Definitely worth it, it's your life and other people's life on the line. After taking this class I can say I have been able to confidently setup anchor safely in every situation I've come across so far. I took the 4 hour class with my cousin which I do have to say was very compressed so if you have no prior knowledge of anchoring or take time to practice and learn I would recommend the 8 hour class. I was pretty new to climbing in general but I did know how to rappel, clove hitch, figure 8 and a few other basic knots. Anyways it was great, thanks Rick! read more

Rick has got you!! Having left an abusive situation, I was torn of my self esteem, self worth, trust and my mental/physical health in general. I was looking to challenge that mindset. I live right next door to Joshua Tree and have always been interested in learning to rock climb, but had never tried it. When I contacted RCED to schedule a private lesson, he was available the next day. My expectations were honestly pretty low. I thought I was going to half learn things and never climb again. I thought wrong!! We spent our lesson time at Quail Springs. Rick is super friendly, exceptionally patient and helpful. He helped me learn the basics and encouraged me to challenge my abilities. He was very informative with each of my 1 million questions! When the day was done, my life had been changed. I'm not the type to throw just throw something like $200 around (or write Yelp reviews), but I was lucky enough that when I signed up a rock climbing class w Jim at Every Day, it was SUPER fun and worth it. I have never ever been rock climbing, not even in a gym, and I'm in decent physical shape and not really afraid of heights. I definitely got PLENTY of actual rock climbing in, and got to do things I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do. Clearly, his top priority is your safety and I definitely felt safe throughout the entire class. Second, and I had read this from various other reviews: he is very well adept at the fine line between encouraging you to do what you don't think you can do, helping you to 'get all the way up there' if that is what you want to do, and on the other hand understanding/respecting when you're actually kind of scared and respecting when you say you want to get down and still have fun. He'll explain that his other priority is that you have FUN. If you want to push yourself, he'll be right there helping you get to the top. If you get nervous or scared or think you can't do it, he'll be right there to make you feel relaxed, fun, comfortable, and gives the encouragement to keep going. At the same time he understand and respects when you've had enough, which is great too. He'll explain that he has some "tricks" to get you to feel relaxed and confident and to just have fun when you're up there. It's true. Definitely recommend Jim and had a SUPER FUN time. My wonderful girlfriend organized a rock climbing trip near Big Bear for my birthday, and we had an absolute blast! Our guide Kelvin was not only incredibly informative, but was also very patient as we asked lots of questions. Learning to lead climb & rappel as well as just hiking through the wilderness around Holcomb Valley Pinnacles was an unforgettable experience. I also want to mention that Olga & Kelvin demonstrated excellent customer service by being very flexible schedule-wise since the forecast had called for inclement weather. Participated in the I intro rope course in Riverside with instructor Kelvin. Kelvin came with all the gear, helmets, shoes, harnesses, etc. and conducted a great intro rope/climbing course. He covered all the fundamentals with an emphasis on safety and technique. I took the Anchors class with Olga and could not be any happier, I had read a text book on Anchors before class and we covered everything and more, Olga is extremely versed in all types of anchors and walked me through all possible knots and combinations that I could use in as many scenarios as we could cover. I've always wanted to pick up the sport of rock climbing (outdoors to be particular) so I spontaneously booked me and a friend a session with RCED. It was a nice way of getting my foot in the door and seeing what it's like in comparison to indoor gyms. They were very professional, accommodating, and prompt with questions I had through email and reserved a slot for us within a day's notice :) Our instructor Olga, was really kind and patient. With 7 years of experience and teaches classes for lead climbing and anchoring, she's quite the expert. You can tell she's very passionate when it comes to climbing and even climbs when she's not working. She was great at instructing us with basic guidelines to follow and is a stickler when it comes to safety. No complaints here because those verticals were no joke! She showed us to a few different rock faces that were just the right amount of challenge. We broke out sweating after struggling to climb the harder one. Of course, if you're not up for anything too strenuous there are easier rocks to climb. Overall, it was such a great experience for us that my friend wants to pick up rock climbing too! We felt 100% safe and I've walked away with more knowledge than I did before. My body now feels like mush so I know I've got a good workout. Will definitely request for Olga again. Btw, RCED even have weekly outings they hold at different locations once you're subscribed to their mailing list. We took our first class with RCED a little over a year ago and have been climbing with RCED ever since. The instruction is first class, I would recommend anyone and everyone to look no further than RCED for rock combing instruction. RCED creates rock climbing and camping outings throughout the year ( pretty much every weekend)and the students are invited to participate and practice their skills with the group, what other climbing instructors do that, none that I know of. We had an early start meeting two guides and the rest of the group at the visitor center at Joshua Tree Park. I have a fear of heights so go figure...I chose to do this, but glad I did. With that said, the guides and the others in the group were extremely supportive, fun and safe. We rappelled from two rock formations: the first I considered the practice run; the second the real deal at about 100 feet. Be ready for a full day - we met at 7:45AM and ended about 2:45PM. A few of us from the group and the guides went to lunch afterwards.
