I didn't want to just do an *average* review, nor did I want to be so aggrandizing as to create a new "listing" of my own Yelp life. [I did think about that one, though...]. Then it hit me: where it all began. Sure, I didn't start at Westminster til 6th grade (that little spurt in Chatt for preschool then another Atlanta private school came before) but it is the most formative educational experience of my life. Even - I think - more than UVA. What I learned, from the "Christian preparatory school for boys and girls" [Note: the specifically Christian part has changed since I was there in the 80s and 90s] is . . . hard to concisely explain [there are some negatives, which I will also mention]. Highlights: *How to think. My parents planted this seed early and they wisely knew I should be in a place where I was challenged, motivated, and importantly - intrigued. *How to create. So many friends have gone on to do amazingly creative, artistically or otherwise, things [see John Pringle http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=john+pringle+wednesday+with+steve+mcqueen&FORM=VRMATS&mmalsid=&mmsosid=385bcb7f-e962-3d3d-e30d-9cf6536fea31&crslsl=0 and Rob Lathan - http://www.roblathan.com/ Zach Hanks http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1189565/bio, just to name three . . .] *The dynamics of social hierarchy: put a lot of bright kids together - and I assure you not all rich WASPy kids - and you've got to learn some social skills, life tactics, motivation . . . [negatives: much like any JH and HS environments, cliques, snottiness, general *rivalries* exist] *Exposure to language and travel. From JH language classes and my first real foray abroad with my French class in 8th grade (I ultimately ended up with enough scores and credits to place out of any college requirements) to trips like Young Life's Western Tour that took us to TX, CO, Mexico, CA and back, with lots of stops in between (Have you climbed Half Dome? Pretty awesome). *The advantages to having so many interests at your use (and waiting or required, depending) - language! science! theater! oh my . . . *An athletic environment par none in Atlanta at my time, and amazingly even better now (and, frankly all "extra-curricular" outlets are as well- have you ever been forced to do a swing jump then safety catch as part of your high school curriculum? Didn't think so - oh, and I had to do mine in a cheerleading skirt). *Simply outstanding teachers (97.2% of the time) [Some pretty stern faculty members-in-charge could use a reset] *Wayyyy big preparation for college - I (and many of my classmates) say Westminster was more challenging than college (and we went to places like UVA, UNC, Dartmouth, Princeton, etc...) Negatives, so to speak, other than I have noted above? Intense competition and pressure; example: a typical weeknight for me as a high school sophomore was two hours of [cross country/cheerleading/tennis] practice, then homework from 8-11 pm, back up at 630 am. Varsity athletes who were also striving to keep being honor students did this every day, every week. Even Type As like me were . . . working hard and beyond. Social pressure - the flip side of acquiring those adult social skills. It's going to be in any Jr High or High School world, but it is amplified in such a brilliant environment. The Type Bs, so to speak - there for family reasons, because it is a phenomenal school, because . . .a really tough place to be as a kid and teen. Super spendy. A smart kid can learn well and go on to do well, regardless of their surroundings, but this kind comes at a price, which I believe is worth it, but it's a pretty big one in terms of dollars. Bottom line? I wouldn't trade it - the experience, the education, the whole shebang - for anything. As much as this smart, Type A, blonde cheerleading captain, WASP girl might have "fit in" and "excelled" - despite the expectations and challenges, on many levels, it is a privilege to go to a place like Westminster for education and way more. And a lot of other kids, different than me - can feel the exact same way. My parents didn't do everything right for sure, but they are the ones who made sure my hide was in that chair in Mrs. Norman's 6th grade English class, and taught me all about diagramming sentences. If you go on their website, you can find the facts that almost speak for themselves: stellar college placements, consistent state champions on a variety of teams, and a campus that rivals many liberal arts colleges. Beyond all of that, however, this is where I learned to study hard and grow as a human being. The religious nature of the school allowed me to gain a comprehensive education in Christianity, and the teachers here are second to none. Even five years out, I still keep in touch with many of them. The price tag is steep, and the social and academic pressure is high, but Westminster gave me a middle school and high school education that made me who I am today. For that, I thank you. Five stars cannot cover what I learned here.

I understand why a lot of Buckhead families are drawn to it. That said, looking back as an adult, I do not feel like it prepared me especially well for real life. There was a lot of emphasis on "be your best self," which sounds good on paper, but in my experience there was less emphasis on discipline, toughness, accountability, and the kind of academic rigor that actually helps once you leave a protected school environment. It helped get me into Alabama, but I was not especially well prepared once I got there, and that became obvious pretty quickly. Now I work in residential real estate, and while I do fine, it is not exactly the kind of challenging or deeply fulfilling professional path I once thought a school like Galloway was preparing me for. It is a very relationship-driven job with long hours, and if I am being honest, a lot of where I landed had more to do with family connections than with any real edge the school gave me. That is the part I think prospective families should think about. Galloway was good at making students feel comfortable and affirmed. I am less convinced it was good at pushing them hard enough to thrive on their own later.

I have been very welcomed and appreciated. This is a title one school and I am amazed at the amount clubs and fun things for the students to be a part of. The dedication and commitment of the teachers truly shows. Their Science Olympiad team is ranked as one of the top in the State. It seems like some parents should appreciate what the school and its teachers do for their kids.

I requested a physical workbook due to my eyesight and was told to be at the Duluth office to pick it up on Monday by 4:00 (they are not open on weekends) on the day of the class (1/12/26). I left work early and arrived by 4:00 only to find they were closed. I was told the office manager left early and I had to view the workbook electronically. That was just the first red flag. I realized early in the class that the instructor did not seem to like me by his responses to my answers to some of his questions. I was trying to show that I was present and participating, but he was condescending and he belittled/berated me if he disagreed with my responses. By the last day, he questioned in class if the children that I work with even like me (the classes are recorded). This was personally not a positive experience for me. I would not recommend. Finally, the communication appears to be primarily via text messages, and the beginning of the thread seems to be automated (at least over the weekend) since I asked questions that were never answered and the responses were generic. It asked if wanted to participate in another program, but when I asked what it was, I didn't receive an answer. If you text them with issues during the week, an actual person will respond, it just takes a while.

During our driver's ed (30 hr Joshua's Law) class, we show our young students so many important components of a car.

(We clearly expected more from them than they did of themselves.). Eventually the daycare stopped answering our questions. Parents, please think carefully before choosing Little Miss Sunshines playhouse.

Institutions like this are the clear argument for repealing the requirement for driving instruction before obtaining a license. That law breeds scam and fraudulence. Nathans is an outgrowth of that and a foreseeable consequence. Let me save you 32 hours + of your life.

This small, neighborhood preschool is the perfect fit for our family. We researched several preschools in the area when we moved to Atlanta, and decided RSP had everything we were looking for in a preschool. The director and teachers all know my child well, they are caring and nurturing, and I feel very welcome at the school. I have seen my child develop letter awareness, number sense, and problem solving skills (as a teacher, this is very important to me), and he is so excited about sharing all that he has learned. I love that the school is teaching STEM curriculum because the discovery based learning is great for all children! I would highly recommend RSP to anyone wanting a community experience for their family! read more

We toured many preschools before selecting Rock Spring Preschool. Being that this is my first child to go to preschool, I was very nervous about choosing the right one. After visiting RSP, the smaller class size and the caring Director and teachers made for such a warm environment, I knew that this was the place for my son! My son has been going to RSP for almost a year now and loves it! Every morning at the car lane drop off we are greeted by the Director with a big smile, she knows every single child and parent! This preschool really is great! We looked around and researched a bunch and pick this one based on the class size and the attention the teachers give the kids. The Director is always outside to greet you when you pick up your kids and the teachers give you an update everyday on how your child did. My son loves going to school everyday and gets excited in the car on the way every single time. They even give the kids short homework assignments tailored around them learning the alphabet and it allows you to connect with your kid as well. My daughter and her friend have been attending the 2K/3K and 4K preschool five days a week since late fall 2014. Rock Spring Preschool was their first preschool experience and they have both blossomed under the gentle and kind instruction of Ms. Sally, Ms. Barbara, Ms. Vicky, and Ms. Tracy. These teachers are truly wonderful and take care to know each child. I am a smiley warm person, and greeted the staff with this disposition hoping this would settle any uncomfortable feeling. The kindness was not returned by his teacher. After several weeks and a conference with my sons teacher and director, it was obvious this was not a good fit for our son or family. If you have a busy boy, a social child, or a child with a vivid imagination- be warned- he or she will not be perceived well. If you are a mama who communicates- this is not the place for you. I have older children in highschool and have never had a back and forth in a parent teacher conference. When a teacher tells you your husband is rude, your actions as a mama are not appropriate, and she is appalled by your son. It is my due diligence to let other families know about my experience.

The Waldorf School has been a magical experience for our daughter, especially during such uncertain…read moretimes. The quality of teachers and administration is beyond amazing. The community is open-hearted and the education and social setting has allowed our daughter to transform her anxiety into confidence and joy. Simply put, she LOVES school and begs me to let her stay as long as possible in aftercare. The way the administration has reinvented in-person learning during the pandemic is nothing short of inspirational. The outdoor classrooms are located on 6-acre, wooded campus that is buzzing with excitement, music and laughter. As an adult what I've discovered in my career (and life) is that I'm happiest during moments of being creative. This being said, the most significant thing I've witnessed in our daughter's journey at Waldorf is a blossoming of her inherent creativity which translates into more moments of happiness. As a mother I couldn't want anything more for my child. If you're looking for a heart-centered school that will nurture child's hunger to learn, grow and be be happy, I strongly encourage you to schedule a tour and whiteness the beauty of this education and school!

We were planning on homeschooling but I still wanted our kids to start with some school environment experience. Smyrna Montessori School was everything we were looking for. My children get lots of individual attention, are encouraged to explore and learn as much as they want and have had some wonderful friendships develop. There is a strong sense of respect modeled through kindness towards the teachers, classmates, learning materials and the world (cultures, the environment). The teachers love my children like they were their own and are passionate about the Montessori style of learning. Both of my children have gained a lot of confidence and independence since they began there. If I ever have a question I can set up a time to talk with any teacher. I'm always impressed with how aware they are of everything my child deals with on a daily basis, what their strengths are, how much progress they have made in areas of behavior, character and learning. I do wish they extended beyond the Primary program (3-6 years). I don't think there is any problem with illness any different than any other school environment. I don't love that the lead toddler teacher spot has changed hands a few times, but I understand that when a teacher has a baby she will want to take time to be with her new baby. This has been the only reason for teachers leaving that I am aware of. Those teachers have stayed in contact with the school and return for visits when possible. We feel very fortunate to be at Smyrna Montessori School and are so happy it opened at the perfect time for our kids. And as far as safety goes, our children are referred to as precious gifts, children are not allowed out of the classroom unless a teacher or parent is with them and the school and yard are secured during the day. I have no concern for my children's safety at all. Montessori is a different approach to learning than what a lot of people are used to, but for us it has been perfect. Oh, and I LOVE that I get an email and photos every week from each of my kids teachers touching on what the kids are working on and enjoying and some explanation about the Montessori process.

There is a low turnover of staff, a fun and friendly feel in the building and classrooms, and most of all, my children just had fun, and absolutely loved going there every day - we couldn't ask for more. We got to know the owner and director very well during our time, the way they and the teachers adapted in the face of the pandemic was amazing. They have seen so many entire families go all the way through the school, and I cant believe its finally our turn to leave.
