The other thing is that the crusaders would visit this pub on the way to the crusades, but there weren't any here when I visited, rather it was packed with all sort, probably tourists, considering the reputation that this pub has. Also, another really cool thing is that this pub is built into the side of a rock outcropping (upon which the castle is built), so yeah, there is so much about this pub that is cool (other than the crowds, which is annoying).

From the dim lighting to the old stone walls and hidden nooks, it feels authentic and atmospheric without trying too hard. It is the kind of place where you want to slow down, look around, and soak it all in. If you appreciate history or enjoy places with a bit of mystery and legend behind them, this pub delivers in a big way. Service was good overall but not outstanding. Staff were friendly and helpful, though things moved at a relaxed pace, especially when it got busy. Orders were correct and everyone was polite, but there were moments where service felt just okay rather than exceptional. That said, the staff fit the vibe of the place well and were happy to answer questions about the history, which added to the experience. Drinks were solid and what you would expect from a historic pub. Nothing mind blowing, but enjoyable and well poured. The food was decent and satisfying, fitting the traditional pub feel, even if it did not completely steal the show. Overall Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a place you go for the atmosphere and history first, with good service and an enjoyable experience rounding it out. The server came across as quite pushy, which felt unnecessary, especially as the restaurant was empty and we were the only party there. The music was also extremely loud considering how quiet it was, which made conversation harder than it needed to be. Portion sizes were on the small side, so value for money didn't feel great. Overall it was okay for a quick lunch, but not one I'd return to.

Each day of the week comes with it's own deal, including our personal favourite, £2 dessert Friday. The apple crookie and the cookie dough cheesecake are to die for. Their steaks and burgers are always cooked to perfection and portion sizes are generous. The piggy burger is a personal favourite of mine. The service is always polite, friendly and efficient, although most of the staff members don't exactly have a memory for faces, and still ID us despite seeing us every Friday since September! My most recent visit was in a group of 6 on a Friday evening. It was busy, and we were apologetically warned that there was 40 minute wait for food - however, we only actually waited 20. My scampi and chips was delicious and perfectly cooked, with lovely tartare sauce, and my fiancee's steak was exactly as rare and tender as she wanted it. She is not eating carbs at the moment, and they happily swapped her chips and vegetables for salad with a side of salad. (rather her than me!) The crowd is very unpretentious. There's a range from the after work business crowd to hardcore goth looking types.
