When we followed up, she said "it's coming"; and went about standing there doing nothing. This is insane. Food wasn't great but at least the bread and veggies were fresh. Coffee sucked. So you start off by selecting the protein/type of sandwich you want. I got the green goddess one because it was the special of the day and less than $5 USD. I love a good veggie sandwich and this one wasn't bad. It came with avocado and cream cheese and your choice of vegetables like lettuce, tomato, cucumber, banana peppers, sprouts, onions and pickles. They have some sauces too. All on top either white, wheat or rye. I kinda wish they'd let you add other cheeses to this sandwich because in hindsight idk if it was really a deal compared to the other specials of the day. And while the cream cheese is nice for its soft and creamy texture, I was thinking some sharp cheddar really would have added something great to my sandwich. But alas, I'm a cheapskate and won't pay extra for cheese. My sandwich was nicely pressed and packaged in a paper bag. I like that they offer interesting soups, salads and smoothies. I was pretty tempted to get a smoothie too, but I ended up getting a drink elsewhere. The girls behind the counter did well. They were nice and efficient. They were patient and spoke patiently with all of us.

Maybe it was the day I was there? It was a Saturday in the later part of the morning so they may have already been out. There's a bakery next door that also has a lot of great European rolls/breads and even desserts but also mixed in are North American treats as well so as much as this probably started out as an authentic German bakery and deli, it's now turned into a heavily German influenced bakery and deli. Still, for Kelowna, it's a good find for German products. Like many German delis, prices on packaged goods are obviously high as they are imports but where else are you going to find these products anyhow? The place is busy, kept clean, and the staff was helpful. A bit of confusion with the numbering system when we were there, but it happens.

I had the spicy pork bahn mi and my partner had the crispy spicy veggie burger. The pork in the bahn mi was delicious!!! We also really liked the veggie burger as well - a very great homemade patty! I had gone to the…read morerestaurant to get some take away soup, and explained to the counter lady my husband couldn't eat large chunks in soup due to his cancer treatment. She offered to blend it, which was a great solution. I waited, and then when the soup came, she simply said, "It's been taken care of." For anyone who has ever been through cancer or cared for someone who is going through it or a serious illness, you know that feeling of utterly loneliness and overwhelm. Like nobody understands what you are going through, and you just have to keep yourself under control or you will lose it. Well, this act of kindness did me in. I broke down in tears, Crystal, the counter lady -- the human form of kindness and love -- took me outside. She told me that cancer sucks, but it would get better. Well, Crystal, it has gotten better. The soup was amazing, but more importantly that small act of kindness gave me the strength to keep going that day. I will never forget that gesture. I didn't get the chance to go back, which I will always regret. Keep doing what you are doing folks. You do more than make awesome food. Your soup and sandwiches nourish souls as well as bodies.
