I was looking for a bakery to buy some really good bred as opposed to prepackaged soft supermarket bread. Visiting kelowna and exploring with a local, we ended up at the Wood Fire Bakery. When we walked in I was, at first, a little disappointed not seeing any 'real bakery...' but it changed quickly when we looked around and saw the customers enjoying their lunch. The menu is fairly small, there's a choice of -maybe- 8 options. One can also choose half sandwiches and have a combo with a soup. We opted for the half sandwich with smoked beef and the beef noodle soup. For 2 our lunch came to roughly $20; that may seem a tad high for a sandwich and soup. Having said that; in my opinion it was most definitely worth it. The smoked beef was served on a kaiser roll, nothing fancy. The star of the lunch was the smoked beef, it was thinly sliced and here was plenty to cover that slightly buttered roll. The beef noodle soup was one of the best soups I've ever tasted in a restaurant; the stock was an amazing dark rich beef stock. Even without the noodles it would have been so fulfilling. As we were enjoying our lunch, we just noticed how much busier the place was. To only sit-down customers but also lots of take-out. This is a place to remember. I can only highly recommend and definitely would like to try more items on their menu. read more

Went to kelowna just after the long weekend on a tues. I have never been but a friend who came with recommeded coming to woodfire bakery because he goes everytime he is in kelowna. They serve mainly subs/sandwiches and soups. It is cafeteria style line up order food, pay first and you get your number with reciept. When you food is ready they will call your number and you come pick it up. You can have it to go or eat in. They are only open from 11-3pm mon- sat so pretty much lunch only. They make everything fresh in house including the sub/ kaiser buns. My friend said they are known for their cordon bleu subs. He really likes their reuben sub. Therefore; we ordered 1 of each so I could try both. Prices are pretty decent for the portion. Cordon bleu tasted really good with ham, cheese and egg. The reuben was better with the garlic butter, saurkaut and corned beef. Next time I come I would like to try their roast beef and montreal smoked meat subs. The roast beef looked really good. One sub definitely good to fill you up unless you can eat alot. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because of their operating hours. Maybe in the summer I would suggest open again from 5 or 6pm- 9 or 9:30pm. That way you can get the dinner rush or I myself could have a sub for dinner/take out hahaha. I will definitely come here everytime I visit Kelowna. If you can make it while they are open I would highly recommend this place for lunch. read more

I had the Cordon Blue Sub and it is by far one of the best sandwiches that I have ever had. My husband had the Roast Beef and he loved it too. This is a great place to have lunch and the prices are reasonable. It is small and there are not all that many tables so it would be challenging for a group. But MAN are these sandwiches worth every calorie! We will be back for sure. read more

Quaint Bavarian decor. Having a small appetite, you can definitely share a dish. The Reuben sub came open faced and was freshly made, waiting about 7 min for it. The Pork Hock was tender and good. A staple in the area but I found the recipes dated and the food heavy. The service is excellent and they have moving a large group of people through the cafeteria style line down to a science. We tried the popular items - Chicken Cordon Bleu Sub - Chicken Volute with a kaiser - Ham hock, sauerkraut, and kaiser. - Soup of the day - Cream of Broccoli. This place my friends, served me the best sandwich I have ever had. It was absolutely perfect in every way. Micheal greeted us very kindly and made us feel welcome in his restaurant. Great vibes from all staff members. It was a pleasure meeting Micheal for the second time at wood fire. My girlfriend and I drove from Toronto & couldn't be more thrilled about landing in this restuarant, we will be back! Amazing place with homemade everything. It is without a doubt one of those Kelowna restaurants that you need to stop and try if you haven't. The breads and soups are all homemade and variety of choices in sandwiches is unbelievable. Delicious velouté chicken on kaiser - creamy flavorful sauce with mushrooms and tender chicken breast, my partner had the bratwurst with sauerkraut which he said was very good. I tasted his sauerkraut which was quite rich, more mild than the pickled sauerkrauts I've had before. Their grainy mustard is absolutely delicious, not too vinegary and very flavorful. Tip: you can get their sandwiches (normally footlong) as half size instead (hence the kaiser)! read more

What a terrific surprise this place was. I recently moved to Kelowna, and a friend who has lived here for a while asked if I had been here. When he learned I hadn't, he insisted we head there immediately. Upon arrival, the first good sign was the fact that on a Monday, it was completely packed. On the downside, it was one of the most tightly packed restaurants I have been in, to the point that it was impossible to navigate between tables without disturbing other patrons. That aside, let me talk about the incredible food. My friend recommended the minestrone soup and informed me that unless I was really hungry, to get the half portion of roast beef sandwich. I started with my piping hot bowl of soup. Now this was unlike any minestrone I have had before. It was thick, rich and delicious. I have not had minestrone with so much beef floating in it either. And we aren't talking fatty, gristly junk roast beef either. It was perfectly trimmed and terrific quality. Truth be told, it was more of a stew than soup, and I couldn't have been happier. I then moved on to the sandwich. It is roast beef soaked in gravy on a fresh kaiser bun. I recommend using a knife and fork as it would be one of those sandwiches that would cause you to eat too fast, just to avoid it falling apart too quickly. It was a highly enjoyable sandwich. If I could offer one suggestion to the restaurant, i would have lived to have seen two things served with the sandwich,.. some caramelized onions on the beef would have been brilliant. Secondly, with the richness of the delicious gravy, I was left craving a dill pickle, as the vinegar would have cut some of the richness. Overall, if you are looking for a place for a soup and sandwich, save yourself the trouble of trying other places in town. There is no point that I can see. You cannot beat these subs for lunch. It can be a bit of a wait sometimes during lunch rush but it's still worth it. Torpedo, Cordon Bleu and Reuben are all amazing. You cannot choose wrong. Prices are reasonable for the sandwiches and pair well with any of the homemade soups. I have eaten there many times. Sometimes depending on your timing you have to wait in line but other times no. I always have either the Chicken Cordon blue Sub, our the Kaiser with smoked beef and sourkraught. The Subs are huge and can be shared between two people if you don't want gut ache after. But the Kaisers are good for one person. I've had the Borche there as well and its delicious! I don't think the male that takes your order ever has a day off because you will hear him yelling, "Chicken Cooordon Bluu Sub is Reeaady" the whole time. Kinda German authentic. read more

Wood Fire Bakery is more of a restaurant than a bakery, and it's one of the best in Kelowna. Some family friends took me here one time when I was visiting, and I was very impressed. The restaurant has a warm and cozy atmosphere, but it's apparently very popular because it was packed when we went. Despite the rush, we managed to get a table for the six of us. I don't remember there being waiter service; I think we had to order and pay up front at the counter. But this is where I got turned onto chicken cordon bleu, they make it so good here! The chicken is crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside, and all oozing with warm, melted cheese. I can't wait to go back and try more from their menu! read more

Just had the chicken cordon bleu sub and it was delicious. Goey melting cheese, chunky tender pieces of chicken breast, delicious roasted ham on a fresh sub bun. Just pure perfection. The place says it opens at 8am but I'm pretty sure that they don't take orders till closer to 11. My friend and I got here at 10:30 and we were third in line to order. This place is a must try. The Wood Fire Bakery is a Kelowna classic. It's a cafeteria style eatery that is very much a place one returns to for a couple of reasons: - Portions are huge - It's *not* repeat *not* low-fat, low carb, low anything - It's very tasty! For a quick lunch, which for me is usually a bowl of their homemade soup and a fresh bun for $5, you can`t beat it!. At noon, the lineup can be long, but the line moves fast. Know what you want, watch what people are getting, but don`t hold up the line!!! Their toasted subs or other meals are great as well. Excellent coffee. My favorite place for a quick lunch! Fantastic food. I had an amazing vegetarian sub. The clientele is amazing, and incredibly personable. They even bailed me out when I realized that they didn't take my credit card and I didn't have enough cash. (I later fixed this.) The overall experience was a five and the food was a strong four. My friends food was served several minutes after mine. This Bakery only offers white bread that they did not bake. There is no wood fire. The staff were not friendly. My fork was filthy. Coffee is served in a tiny cup that could be suitable for tea but not coffee. I'll never come back and I will tell people to avoid that place. read more

We stopped for lunch at Wood Fire Bakery today. My wife ordered the Cordon Bleu sub and I went for the signature Torpedo. We both ordered small caesar salads. Those salads were not small. And with the sub filled me ( a guy with a healthy appetite) very well. Both subs were excellent. We shared, as per our usual. The sub bun was fresh, made today, and delicious. The ingredients were equally fresh and tasty. Cordon Bleu could use a bit more sauce, but it was a very nice sandwich. The menu is limited but they seem to take great care in those limited dishes. This is a great spot for a quick and tasty lunch. read more
