It has fantastic new changing rooms and showers. The club offers a great mix of competitive tennis and social tennis. It also caters for all levels. I myself was a beginner in 2006 and thanks to great coaching I now love playing league. The club is genuinely very friendly and it is very easy to meet people due to the many tennis events and coaching that take place weekly. I have been a member of a few other tennis clubs over the year due to house moves but this is the friendliest club that I have been a member of. Drop in a on Saturday morning at 10.30am and have a hit and meet some players. Then stay for tea/coffee/biscuits and a chat afterwards. The club also runs regular 30 euro per month trial offers. The club has 11 outdoor synthetic courts that are very well maintained.

The draw of tennis courts aside, one of the great things is that it is a great place to meet new people, that is if you ever get off your butt and go (unlike some people I know ... ahem). They host different tournaments and leagues for all levels, and not to worry if you don't have a doubles partner you'll be assigned one the night. The main draw however is that you get drink vouchers for the bar/ lounge and if that's not enough to bring you in they hold different events throughout the year, like parties and quiz nights. Still not convinced? Afraid of your volley shot? Fear not there's 3 accredited coaches on hand to improve your game ... now I can't say you'll be the next Williams sister or Roger Federer, but you'll see definite improvement in your game.

I've been a member since I was about five years old. I started off having beginners lessons with my school friends. The club is very accomodating for younger ones, and the club coach Kieran is on hand to develop their interest. He takes the tennis lessons in a fun manner, not just pushing the kids to get the serve perfect, but developing their overall athletic ability, involving fun and games. Summer camps are held in the months of July and August. These are great fun, with water fights, rounders and more. All-day tennis is just too much for kids. For teenagers there are social competitions in a round robin format in summer and winter. These allow everyone to get to know each other, while having a friendly competition. There are also teams and the coaches work hard with the people who want to seriously pursue tennis. For adults there are teams to join. They play in leagues. There are also social evenings, with pizza afterwards. The courts are open all the time so members can play when they like (competitively or friendly!). One of the great things is that non-members can pay a small fee and then are free to play a game. There is something for everyone at this club.

The name is a…read morelittle misleading, as croquet is no longer offered at the club, but the name remains as a hats off to the club's lengthy history. The club itself is now almost 130 years old, so it is steeped in tradition and has many supporters. Brand new surfaces have just been laid on the courts, so you can be assured that once the kinks are ironed out, these will again be top notch facilities. The club boasts around 1500 members who are able to share the facilities with their families and friends. On the club's website there is an online booking form for the tennis courts - ain't technology grand?!? The club itself is situated right near Malahide marina - prime real estate, and the whole club looks gorgeous and is oh-so impeccably maintained.

It is an absolute joke! They never ever answer the phone, and yet when you go into the gym there are multiple staff at the reception. If you email them, they will take over a month to respond. If you ask one of the receptionist for anything (the most basic of requests) they haven't a clue and direct you to call the number for Westwood, to which you will NEVER get an answer. The gym itself is nice and all that, but I actually miss Flyefit now and regret paying the amount Ive paid on a membership with them due to the terrible customer service. Also just something to watch out for, the day you visit the gym with an interest of joining, you will be shown around by a staff member who has all the time in the world for you and will dazzle you with all of the perks etc of joining Westwood, but don't be fooled by this ! Once you join, you are on your own and if you need any support/ need to ask a simple question, good luck to you my friend

I walk through Fairview Park every day without fail. It's a lovely expanse of greenery which…read morebridges the gap between North Strand and Clontarf (the gap being the suburb of Fairview). The park has a fairly substantial playground area, so is ideal for families. There's also lots of space so you could claim a whole area of the park for a family picnic, rather than just the tuft of grass you'd be allowed at Stephens Green. Tree-lined pedestrian and bike pathways traverse the park, which makes it a popular route for commuters and cyclists on their way into the city or out to Clontarf Promenade. There is always something interesting to see in Fairview Park - last week I witnessed an awe-inspiring tai chi session, and on occasion I've stopped to watch hurling matches and boot camp training. It's not really a 'destination' park, but if you happen to be in the area, it's definitely worth taking a picnic.
