I've been a member since I was about five years old. I started off having beginners lessons with my school friends. The club is very accomodating for younger ones, and the club coach Kieran is on hand to develop their interest. He takes the tennis lessons in a fun manner, not just pushing the kids to get the serve perfect, but developing their overall athletic ability, involving fun and games. Summer camps are held in the months of July and August. These are great fun, with water fights, rounders and more. All-day tennis is just too much for kids. For teenagers there are social competitions in a round robin format in summer and winter. These allow everyone to get to know each other, while having a friendly competition. There are also teams and the coaches work hard with the people who want to seriously pursue tennis. For adults there are teams to join. They play in leagues. There are also social evenings, with pizza afterwards. The courts are open all the time so members can play when they like (competitively or friendly!). One of the great things is that non-members can pay a small fee and then are free to play a game. There is something for everyone at this club.

The draw of tennis courts aside, one of the great things is that it is a great place to meet new people, that is if you ever get off your butt and go (unlike some people I know ... ahem). They host different tournaments and leagues for all levels, and not to worry if you don't have a doubles partner you'll be assigned one the night. The main draw however is that you get drink vouchers for the bar/ lounge and if that's not enough to bring you in they hold different events throughout the year, like parties and quiz nights. Still not convinced? Afraid of your volley shot? Fear not there's 3 accredited coaches on hand to improve your game ... now I can't say you'll be the next Williams sister or Roger Federer, but you'll see definite improvement in your game.

If you go to there by car, it's ok. Because there has parking space. But if you go to there by DART, you have to walk about 20mins to badminton centre from the station.

I've…read morebeen a swimmer on and off since I was about 5 years old (ON for most of my teenage years, OFF when I discovered beer and women, ON again when I took up triathlon to set myself a new challenge), so I have a good idea what makes a good swimming pool, and a fair idea what makes a good gym. Let's start at the start - this is a private members gym; you can't walk in off the street unless you're signed in by a member. You can sign up for some classes by themselves (spin, pilates, etc) as a non-member, but most of the people here are fully paying members. That being said, the membership packages are very flexible - it's basically €230 for an individual for a year of a basic membership, plus either pay-as-you-go, or whatever package you want to put on top for gym/swim/etc. I've been a member since February and I could not be more impressed to be honest. The place is always spotless, the staff are always friendly, the other patrons are always grand (no steroid junkies here!), and the classes are very good; particularly the spin classes which come as part of your full membership. Every facility you could want is here as well: gym, pool, football pitches, tennis and badminton courts, sauna, leisure suite... you name it, it's there! Now onto the pool itself. It's a standard 25 meter pool with a small viewing gallery. The 'adult swim' sessions are the best to go to if you want to go for a proper swim - three lanes will be marked out and most people stick to the slow, medium & fast lanes (it's a pet peeve of mine when they don't!). All in all, a great job in a handy location, and you can customise your own package or pay-as-you-go after the initial membership fee. Only negative is that you have to pay up-front rather than by Direct Debit, but it's not enough of a grievance to deter me from awarding the big 5!

The staff are very helpful and super friendly. They help you and are interested in that you are doing things right and that is good for you. I consider the space very very clean, spacious, comfortable and modern.

Then €55 (limited entry times) or €75 per month, which will bring total cost per year to €1160 and €1400. If you are a bit more clever, you'd reason with them, that €500 entry fee is way out of boundaries and they would bring it down to a €100 or less. Yes, you can negotiate. I used this gym for maybe five times during their "twelve days of christmas" promotion which was totally free. They have everything: main gym, 50 m swimming pool, studio, climbing wall, seven tennis courts, separate ladies gym, 130 m running track (a bit a fail, but it's there). Then they have baby changing rooms, sun beds, sauna and steam room, warm room, jacuzzi, plunge pool for after sauna (8º C temp.). There's SPA as well. When you join, they offer, I believe, six free training sessions. They have a nice lounge area on the main floor. Non members can wait for you there and there's lovely canteen/buffet. Minor issues: old cardiovascular equipment; running track can't be used in full potential as it has very sharp bend where you can't be running fast; tennis courts are cemented (better don't fall); small car park (may end up waiting on the road for spaces); no shower gel in showers. In conclusion, this is a very nice, filled with lots of different activities, gym. Even it's costly, but can be worth every penny, if you willing to enjoy it in its full potential. To add, it's great for families with kids, as I saw some swimming classes, where kids would be minded by staff, so it means you can have some time to yourself. But I can't confirm this. I'm Ben Dunne gym member and €200 per year compared to €1400 (€900 without joining fee) is a big deal.

I have been a member at West Wood Clontarf for over a year, visiting 4-5 times a week, but today's…read moreexperience with staff member Camilla and manager Vitoria Bueno was shockingly rude and unprofessional. My partner and I train together and share equipment, so we had one towel with us on the gym floor. When stopped, we pointed out that there is no signage anywhere on the floor stating a strict "one towel per person" rule, nor had we ever been warned before. Instead of explaining professionally, manager Vitoria Bueno literally questioned our integrity by saying, "How do we know you're telling the truth?" To make matters worse, there were people working out on the gym floor at that exact moment with no towels at all. When we pointed out the double standard, we were given weak excuses about staff availability. Rules are fine, but hostility, double standards, and accusing loyal paying members of lying is disgraceful customer service. Very disappointing treatment from a premium facility.
