I tend to love the more obscure roadside attractions in my home state of Indiana. One such…read moreattraction is Berne, Indiana's Muensterberg Plaza and Clock Tower. I am especially fond of the clock tower, a 160-foot tall multi-million dollar replica of the clock tower in Bern, Switzerland that was dedicated in 2010. I used to drive through Berne semi-regularly due to my church obligations that would frequently have me in this part of the state. Located on, you guessed it, North Church Avenue in Berne, this clock tower is beautiful to look at and consistent with the Swiss theme that dominates Berne, Indiana. Admission is free to this roadside attraction. Berne, Indiana is located in Adams County about 35 miles south of Fort Wayne. Population is about 4,000 and they have a substantial Amish population that speaks a Swiss German dialect known as Bernese German. The town comes by its Swiss connection naturally - it was settled in 1852 by Mennonites that came here directly from Switzerland. That relationship with Switzerland has been maintained. The entire city of Berne takes a little bit over 2 square miles! The plaza also includes "The Settler's Statue," a statue commemorating the area's first settlers, along with the only stateside Canton Tree and a flower bed designed in quilting patterns. The clock is actually quite popular even for local residents who are quite proud of it. You pretty much can't visit Berne without seeing the clock - partly because it's such a main feature and partly because it's big enough that it stands out in the city. Do you remember the Dilley sextuplets? They were the world's first surviving sextuplets. They were from Berne, IN. This is honestly a great day trip - in addition to checking out this tourist attraction you have multiple close by places to visit including Oubache State Park, Gene Stratton Porter Museum, Pine Lake Waterpark, and Swiss Heritage Village & Museum among others. If you get a chance, I definitely recommend stopping in Berne, IN and checking out their beautiful clock tower.

The plaza is a nice park, with plenty of space to enjoy the out of doors. I posted pictures taken during my visit in January and to see the monument surrounded by white snow was awesome. two words....HOLY SHIT! the legion is just epic, with a nice large bar and plenty of drinks to…read morechoose from. the ladies behind the bar are just peaches to get drinks from too. they even have FREE god damn popcorn to munch on while you're waiting for your food to be brought to you, it is insanely delectable too. theres also a outdoors patio now to hang out on and listen to live music entertainment and pound as many ice cold beers as you want. the wings are so god they're stupid. the inside is just as nice and comfy as the outside patio. they have drawings you can sign up for to win money and theres even several different tear away little tiny paper ticket games that you can win big bucks on and they're only a dollar a piece! and because this legion is post number 241 if you get a ticket with those numbers on it you win a free drink! i think i spent 4 or 5 hours in here just eating and drinking and gambling and conversing with locals and just telling them how much i wish we had a place like the legion back in anchorage. im gonna try to come back here at least once a week or more for the duration of my stay in the greater new bremen metropolitan area.

Ever since moving, I have voted via absentee ballot for pretty much every election and vote held…read more Most recently for a single issue ballot, my family and I did not request one and came physically to vote. Besides us, there may have been one or two other people voting. Certainly not use to being able to immediately vote, when going to a polling place. Back where I am from, even early voting the lines could take hours. The process was easy, the polling workers were friendly. I also have to say, the scanner look new, are modern and quickly read your vote. Great experience! Much easier than I expected. Just want to end by saying, if your of legal age and can vote... vote! Its your civic duty! Cherish this right! Take it from my family, who came from a country where this right didn't and still does not exist.

Celina Lighthouse is a landmark in Celina, OH. I saw it several times during my trips into town…read more This last time in Celina, I was eating at the nearby Boardwalk Grill for lunch. After a delicious meal, I decided to walk to the Celina Lighthouse to check it out. It is probably the smallest lighthouse I have been too. Still it is beautiful. You cannot enter it, but you can walk up steps to be able to look out onto the lake. You get great views and a bit of peace to enjoy the sight. Check it out if you are in the area!

I came by Lima's BMV in late May because I realized that I needed to replace my drivers license. I…read moregot lasik surgery a while back and in order to legally drive per the conditions of my license, I needed to wear eye glasses. Since thats not possible anymore, I went to my local BMV in Van Wert. I was told that since this is a replacement license not during renewal I needed to go to the one in Lima. So i went one weekday morning to get this resolved. Much bigger location than the one in Van Wert, also this one does driving tests. I went in and noticed there were three rooms, one was for driving tests so I did not go in there. I randomly choose one and made a line. When I got to the front, i explained I needed a replacement license due to having Lasik surgery. I was told i had to go to the other room first to get a vision test to prove my problems had been corrected. So i went to the other room, thankfully that one didn't have a line so I took the eye exam. Then had to redo the line in the original room I made a line in to pay, have my records changed, and take a new picture. Unfortunately, the line had become larger than when I first did it in the room. After paying and getting a new picture, I was told my new license was coming in 3-4 weeks and voided my old license. Yes, it is inefficient to do so many lines and wait so long for a license but it could have been worse. I have seen way longer lines down in Florida.

I have come twice to my local Ohio Bmv since I moved to Ohio from Florida. For those of you outside…read moreof Ohio, the BMV is the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, their version of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Pretty much everything is the same except for a few differences The first time I came in was because I needed a notary in order to send some documents needed on the sale of my old home down in Florida. It was last minute and I was scrambling to find a notary. I had no idea who to go to or how much it would cost me. Thankfully someone at the front desk of the hotel I was staying in told me the local BMV has a notary service. I was super happy, I went in there and in no time I had the document I needed to send notarized. The best part was that it was free! I already was beyond satisfied with the service here because of that. They really saved me! I later came back in order to get an Ohio drivers license. Small wait like (2 people). Once I gave them the required documents, I took my picture and they told me I would get my license in the mail in two weeks. It pretty similar the process like in Florida. One thing I found out from them was that Ohio doesn't have auto tag agencies? In order to change your tag, you have to go do it at the courthouse. Anyway a BMV/DMV where you don't spend hours wasting your time is great!
