Despite its smaller size, the church felt vibrant and it was pretty packed for a midday Mass. The priest gave an excellent homily, though the deacon was a bit hard to understand. Overall, we really enjoyed Mass here. We did arrive late and even then, had no trouble finding a seat. Notable perk: the seats and kneelers are super cushioned and probably some of the most comfortable I've experienced. There seemed to be many opportunities to get involved with the congregation, even for children's ministries. I'd definitely like to come back!

Thankfully, my family and I have since found a church where we feel genuinely welcomed and supported. I grew up attending this church and many of my family members and friends did as well. Because of that, it felt like the natural place to celebrate such a special moment in our lives. Unfortunately, the experience leading up to our wedding was incredibly disappointing. Throughout the planning process many of our interactions with Elsa left us feeling judged rather than supported. It often felt like we were constantly being corrected or expected to meet certain standards instead of being encouraged and welcomed. Rather than feeling excited about getting married in the church I grew up in I found myself feeling discouraged. I believe churches should help people feel welcomed, encouraged, and drawn closer to their faith not leave them feeling like outsiders or ashamed because they don't meet every expectation. (Sometimes unfortunately people do stray away but who are we to judge or make people feel that way?) The day of our wedding was especially disappointing. Shortly after the ceremony we were rushed to leave and were told we needed to get out. After such an important milestone that was an unfortunate way to end. I'm grateful to have found a new church where my family and I feel accepted, welcomed, and able to grow in our faith without feeling judged. I truly hope everyone who chooses to celebrate one of life's biggest moments here has an experience that makes them feel loved and supported.

Back in 1888, the nuns from Saint Patrick purchased land next to the Cathedral in order to open a school in 1889. It became the Saint Ignatius Academy, where students studied and were also housed. From the second we walked up to the entrance everyone was extremely friendly and inviting. They acted as if we were locals who had been going there for decades. Even though there were 4 adults and 5 kids, no one batted an eye and even made sure to say hello to every single one of us. When our youngest kid got restless during mass & wanted to go outside, instead of getting looks of annoyance, we got looks of happiness & understanding from the other parishioners. That was such a relief as that's not always the case. Mass itself was nothing of note. It's on par with any other mass you'll go to at a Catholic Church. I did appreciate the diversity from the priest to the deacon & the alter servers. It really helped give the feeling of the Universal Church. After mass they had a fundraising breakfast for the Knights of Columbus. I really wish we could have gone to not only help the community, but to spend some more time with the congregation. I definitely plan on attending another mass the next time we are in the area.
