It has very strange hours; Monday 1PM-9PM, Tuesday 1PM-9PM, Wednesday 5PM-9PM and Thursday 9AM-5PM. It's closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The library section is EXTREMELY small, I was honestly shocked at how small and what little books they had. The building is very large yet the book section is a short hallway of sorts with 5-6 rows of bookcases on each side as you walk to the end of the room. The bookcases are about 5 feet in length with about 5 shelf's of books. In comparison to the other libraries it is tiny. There also isn't any computer access, inclusive of a computer catalog to see what books are available there and at the other town libraries. I was pretty disappointed and will be going to check out the other town libraries. It is a beautiful building though and will post some photos later when I have more time.

I went and got the library director because it got so bad and she said to me "The library is noisy you should have brought headphones." Seriously! The library isn't noisy your workers are! And nobody expects silence but we expect it to be relatively quiet so we can hear ourselves think. Nobody was making any noise but the workers at the front desk being obnoxiously loud. Then she told me "This isnt a college library." Lady I am 30 years old but thanks for the compliment.

I'm originally from Boston, so I frequented the BPL in Copley Square quite a bit. Since I moved around so much, I feel quite at home at Thayer Public Library. Staff are very accommodating and polite, and able to help with almost anything you need. Their media collection is massive compared to the BPL, and I simply just love it. Plus, I live across the street, so yay me!

This library is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Nobody should be leaving their 3-year-old, wheelchair or no wheelchair, in the hands of a flake like that. Parking lot is massive, open evenings M-W and otherwise only closed on Sundays, and you best believe they have entertainment for the wee ones - from the infamous MamaSteph to jugglers, Lego Builders and story tellers! *Just like the Minuteman, the Old Colony Library Network will pull inventory from any of the 29 in-circle libraries dotting the South Shore and have it waiting for you at your local branch. It was always clean and we were always able to get the assistance we needed finding any books. Now with the new building, not only is it beautiful, the same friendly and helpful people are still here. There is a lovely garden entrance, multiple meeting rooms, and even a back porch for outdoor reading. My son enjoyed an event that was recently held here, a community art project where different colored stickers form a large image, and being able to borrow different items like puzzles, games, and binoculars, in addition to books. We tried the binoculars on the porch and spotted some deer!

I love this library with so many different nocks you can read anything and are able to check out…read morebooks, movies, magazines, games, a Nintendo, video games, and audiobooks. The librarians are extremely friendly and can help with what ever you need.

There are computers available for use, and a copier with the first few copies free. In addition to your normal books, audio books, DVDs, they have different kind of play station games, a library of things, and a children's area with a puppet stage. They currently participate in collecting plastic bread tags and water bottle caps for recycling. There's also a coffee sample that you can take home to enjoy if they haven't run out that week. They are closed Sundays and Mondays, but are open late (for a library) a few days a week.

Live on the South Shore? Wondering about the history of your town, a monument, or something you'd…read moreheard about from a neighbor? You're in luck, because there's the Dyer Memorial Library, a small yet important institution that's devoted to collecting and preserving the history of Abington, Rockland and Whitman (full disclosure: I have done consulting work here). The Dyer was founded through the will of Marietta White Dyer in 1930 to promote and preserve the history of Abington. It's in an early 1930s structure on Centre Avenue that looks like a mansion. Inside are the library stacks, exhibit spaces and a reading room where patrons can review manuscripts, genealogical resources, photographs and newspapers. What makes the Dyer special is its focus on the area around Abington. It holds an extensive collection of town reports dating into the 1800s, as well as newspapers circulating in the area and artifacts often seen in the library's exhibits. While some items in the collection address subjects and areas outside of the Abington area, the beauty of its collection is that it is focused almost exclusively on the South Shore. From its founding to the present day the Dyer's personnel and trustees have been a great source of strength and direction. Although the staff is small it is versatile and has an extensive knowledge of its collections. Moreover their preservation efforts over the last decade or so have made tremendous strides toward improving the conditions of its holdings. The area between Boston's immediate southern suburbs and Cape Cod sometimes gets overlooked by shoppers, business and the media. Thanks to the Dyer, its history is kept safe and well secured.
