With absolutely no compunction whatsoever, a jaunt to the lovely peripheries away from my present day gated trailer park community in Vancouver, I decided upon here. Mission, BC. Destination dining. Any person that watches TV series likely knows of this place, so I will not bore you with the mind-numbing details. The food was more remarkable than I expected. Quite fresh and pricing is better than a rather famous BC owned/operated family dining chain, who will remain unnamed. The only shortcoming would be the drive to get here, if you're not a local. The Yelp reviews seem to be all over the map. I'm giving it a solid 4*s. For value and taste. Service was friendly and unintrusive. Get yourself some gas for your automobile while you're out in this neck of the groves. BTW, Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper are not here. Rocko's Diner is said to be known for their forty flavors of milkshakes, as well as being used for filming of several television shows. The food is delicious and the portions are huge! They serve stuff like burgers, fries, fish and chips, onion rings, and poutine. All very typical diner type food. You can also order breakfast dishes all day long. I ordered the Garden Omelette and when I found out that I could get a Vegetarian gravy at this restaurant, I went for the "Poutine your hash" option! Didn't have room to order any of their famous milkshakes as our dinner was soooo filling. I have been to Rocko's Diner a few times and this restaurant is pretty good as far as variety goes. Some of the food is worth trying while others are mediocre. I have recently come back there to have the Deep Fried French Toast, which I found to be exceptionally good. The French toast tasted very deep fried yet crunchy and warm as well. It also comes with strawberry sauce and butter syrup for more sweetness. The best thing to have there are the milkshakes, which they come in a variety of flavours. You can even have two flavours in the milkshake if you want. When I asked if they could make an Eggnog Milkshake, they were courteous enough to go through the trouble. The interior look of the establishment looks nice with their 50s theme they have going. Overall, Rocko's Diner is a decent restaurant with some creative entrees to offer and would not mind coming back there. read more

Finally tried the the famous Riverdale diner (Pop's diner in the show). Far from contrary belief, this diner has excellent food! They have a lot of items on their menu so I did not get to try everything but the little that I did try, I was a fan. We started off with their milkshakes which I should say were a bit disappointing - it was basically ice cream. I got their beef chilly bowl with garlic bread which was warm and comforting for a rainy day. The garlic bread was especially good and paired well with the bowl. My favourite was their deep fried french toast!! It had a cream cheese filling and cinnamon sugar drizzle. It came with a side of strawberry marmalade which also I loved! Their onion rings were the next best thing - they were crispy and thin!! Their disco fries were not my favourite however, it was a bit too salty. My friends and I came here at around 9 PM on a Saturday night. The waitress we had gave off strange vibes, but overall the experience was decent. I mainly appreciated what they offered because of the portion sizes for their mains. The burgers are huge and we also got some appetizers to share. I quite liked the fried pickles popcorn shrimp and jalapeño poppers. I got a root beer float and most of my friends got milkshakes. I've been to Rockos a few times and everytime it's always good! This time went for shakes, turns out you can mix flavours, so I got the cheesecake and caramel mix, definitely recommend. Such a cute little diner with very affordable prices and large portions. It's quite far from Vancouver but definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. It's also open 24 hours which is a great bonus! We checked it out because it's featured in Riverdale. I was a little bit disappointed by how different it looks from Pop's on the show but I can definitely see where the inspiration is from. The staff were lovely and there were soooo many milkshake options to choose from and it just almost feels like Riverdale :) Also, the milkshakes were one of the best ones I've ever had!! I first read of Rocko's Diner as being the location shot for Riverdale Pop's Chock Lit Shoppe. Being fan of the Archie comic more than Riverdale, it has been on my radar to make a visit some day. I was glad that it happened to be near the gas station we stopped to fuel up when in Mission, so we trooped over for a bit of a bite. The diner is tiny, literally set in its own lot, away from others. It is a "blink and you will miss it" place if you are driving fast along Lougheed Highway. Parking is available. Due to covid-19, there is limited indoor dining space. But take out is readily available. The interior is kitschy and fun and cute. The service is excellent. The milkshake list is extensive and I went with the recommended cookies and cream shake. It was delicious. The Rocko's skillet I had was so good. It did not look like much, but it was a lot of food underneath the eggs. The hash was crispy on the edges and soft inside. I loved it. It was such a pity I could not finish it and could not pack the leftovers since I did not have a cooler in the car. I ordered the c'ribben milkshake & wow flavour spot on, and the Bacardi was definitely noticeable. As everyone else's has said Bring your APPETITE ! The portion are very large ! I ordered the garden omelette & It was definitely packed with veggies & they CORRECTLY made an omelette by placing the veggies in the middle & folding it!! The hash brown & poutine was good but they used cheddar not curds. The gravy was definitely bold beef flavour, some may not like this, I myself don't mind. Growing up in the Brick City of mission, I never had a desire to go to Rockos. I eventually moved to Los Angeles and had kids. The kids started watching Riverdale and in a weird twist of fate, these Angelinos wanted to go to Rockos the next time we travelled to Mission to visit fam. So we finally went there in August of 2023 I was surprised. The place is actually pretty decent and I was digging the old school vibe. Milk shakes were really good. I felt the meat was a bit dry and over cooked so I do wish it was more juicy and tender. * Strawberry milkshake ($6) ~ this was soo good! Quite overhyped sadly. The place is very tight and didn't look the cleanest at all. Also when we ordered, we asked about a specific item on the menu if it's ok to order, and the waiter said yes. When we went to the cashier they kept on pushing us it wasn't and now we had to pay a much higher price. We kept on telling her the waiter assured us and she finally went to the back to double check, and she just came back saying "you can not do that again." and gave us the attitude. Rockos is great for groups and family! As long as you're not lactose intolerant or vegan there is options. But there is only 1 vegetarian based meal if you're not including sides. There are no salads at Rockos either which is a slight disappointment. Their deep fried pickles and shrimp basket are lightly recommended and so are the onion rings! The milk shakes are huge! I came here because it was my sisters and her boyfriend anniversary and they wouldn't stop talking about the hype to try out 'The Diner from Riverdale' and oh boy, did we wish we could have gone somewhere else. The only good thing we got were pictures. Not WORTH the hype AT ALL. The costumers they get are defiantly brought in from the show. To begin with the waiting time was insane and it didn't make sense when there were booths open there were 4 of us.. I guess they had reservations? But they say they don't do reservations.. hmmm When we finally got a booth I looked at the menu and was taken by the prices, the food was super over priced.. (like insanely for what you actually got) I thought to myself well it must be big portions for that price. WRONG. Okay I get it, you can order water but we didn't even get our water until 40 minutes AND we didn't get a refill of the water because OUR SERVER was NOWHERE to be seen. After we ordered 30, 40, 50 minutes passed by as an attempt to make this a great experience at least for the love birds. I attempted many times to flag the waitress down and she would literally walk right past me as if she didn't see me or heard me. I tried this 5 times! 5 times and nothing.. completely ignored. I decided to let it go and thought that maybe I was being a bother and she was maybe indeed busy. At that point I realized I was not happy but I wasn't going to ruin it for them since, we came all the way from Surrey and it had taken us just about 2 hours to get there. It wasn't until the 2 hour mark that she finally came and noticed that we had not gotten our food yet. TWO HOURS!!! I, then, realized that she had missed us when we would call her because the kitchen was actually super behind on orders and she was embarrassed.. and thought we'd be upset with her. At that point I thought we couldn't be more disappointed until we got our food. I got the Double Shroom Burger which is basically everything x2 for $13.99. I got a better deal than my sisters boyfriend. My sisters boyfriend ordered a Steak Sandwich which was $19.49 (picture of meal below) and he got a piece of toast and a steak on top of it.. no veggies, no sauce just one piece of bread and a 8oz steak for $19.49. It was supposed to be garlic toast and it didn't event taste like garlic. (We all took a piece because he did not like it at all) *I thought a sandwich had two pieces of bread a meat, sauce and veggies? Hmmm, maybe times have changed. When we were done we didn't think twice about not tipping, I'm a person who always does but at this point I felt like I was basically telling them it's okay that you completely forgot about us. Didn't bother checking up or even filling up our water, check on our food, or even ask us how it was when we came. No. Sorry. And to make things even better when we went up to pay they asked us what we had ordered.. they had no idea what we had to eat. As in, people could lie about what they eat and they wouldn't know. We were super confused. Halfway through the food no one spoke about it but by the time we were ready to drive home we had to wait in the car because we all felt sick and nauseous. Which was the cherry on-top. It couldn't get better than that. Needless to say this is 4 people that will not be coming back EVER. Honestly, I had made a joke when we arrived because there was a McDonald's close by about how we drove all that way to end up near a Mc Donald's and at the end we all agreed that we should have gone there instead. So if you're in Mission and see Rocko's Diner make sure you go to the McDonald's or Browns across the street instead. I've always wanted to try this place out because of Riverdale and my love for Archie comics. This place is quite far and just coming here for the experience once was enough. It was cool to see the different flavour shakes they have and the ones they make for the characters, surprisingly the jughead shake was very good! For the price of $6 the shake is pretty good to share with someone, I thought it was pretty big portion sized here which is nice. The diner definitely has an old feel to it, the dining in experience was slow in service but I understand it gets pretty busy there which is interesting because it's so far away. Perhaps it's a locals hot spot or people are interested in it because of riverdale and share the same enthusiasm as me. Rocko's was chosen for a breakfast stop on the way to Harrison Hot Springs recently, we arrived about 9:30 am. It was a first time visit for us, and from pictures seen, and reviews read before our trip, we were quite anxious to check it out. Suspect I could likely be one of only a few 'Lower Mainlanders' never having stopped there before, either for a beverage or meal, when in or passing through Mission, the restaurant has been there for a such good number of years. The retro-look and ambiance sure brought back many fond memories from my "early days" growing up in Vancouver, especially as a teen, when living near the many drive-ins and small diners along Kingsway at that time. The colours (especially those reds & blacks!), seating arrangements (w/booths, and chairs at service counter), memorabilia, various posters, slogans, and such on the walls, and shelves of pies, milkshake machine, and all - were fun to see and experience once again. The service was great - personal, friendly, accommodating, and attentive. What was ordered: - beverages: daughter's 'treat' -- Mom - pineapple milkshake (served in the metal 'shaker', w/cardboard straw) -- me - Clamato Caesar (bottle preparation, w/tall glass and ice) -- daughter (the driver) - coffee. - food: Mom - 'Morning Special', w/two eggs, sausages, hash browns, and sourdough toast -- daughter - 'Rockos House Omelette', w/kubasa sausage (instead of ham), fresh sauteed mushrooms, cheese, and green onion, hash browns, and rye toast -- me - 'Mushroom and Cheese Omelette', w/fresh sauteed mushrooms, cheese, hash browns, and sourdough toast. Serving sizes were generous, the food well-prepared, and tasty. We did as best we could to clear our plates, but had a little take-out to go (it joined a dinner snack in our room at the hotel in Harrison later that day). I've never seen an episode of Riverdale, but this little diner is staffed by the nicest people I've ever met. The service is spectacular and we were made to feel special right from the get go. The milkshakes here (and I'm not even a milkshake guy) are off the charts. My lady and I both got the Rocko's Mudslide, and I would happily live with the diaBEETus if that's what the price was to enjoy this delicious monstrosity. We didn't want it to end! The food was diner quality, which is fine, cuz that's what the place is. All in all, this is a great little gem of a place. The decor gives it a retro feel and it's a fun place to spend an hour and stuff your gut full of comfort food. And if you're an Archie fan, hey, bonus! We shall return for more milkshakes! read more
