We drove in today from Toronto to play The Rock because we had heard good things about the course. Arriving early (9:10 am for a 10:00 am tee time), there is NO ONE to greet us or take our golf bags, there is NO ONE in the pro shop (we had to holler to find someone), there is no breakfast served, only really terrible frozen and thawed soggy muffins, there is NO starter. The course was in good shape, the tee area were good, the fairways well maintained, and the greens were rolling true. It's a good challenging Muskoka golf course. But probably ranked fifth amongst the ones listed above. We stopped for drinks and snack before heading back to the city. Big mistake. The food is just terrible! My friend ordered The Rock Poutine and said it was the worst thing he has ever eaten in quite some time. I ordered the crispy chicken wings which were soggy. I am home now and it is not sitting well in my stomach. Overall, The Rock was a huge disappointment. The golf was good but the fact that there is absolutely no services for the guests made the plus two hour road trip feel like it wasn't worth it. Would not recommend this place for a one day golf excursion.

Driving up there with the fall colours - spectacular. It's really in a beautiful spot, so it had that going for it. It didn't have....much else? I mean granted - I was NOT going there for golf, and it's more of a golf resort. There is not a lot to do once you're there and it's off-season. We did the escape rooms (2 out of the 4) and they were FANTASTIC! Well put together, good props and the rooms were fun. They weren't too hard to figure out but a fun challenge. Aside from these rooms and some ax throwing...that's it for 'fun'. The restaurants were fine - breakfast brunch was a good mix, dinner was tasty...I had steak on one of the nights and it was delicious and made with care. Nothing stood out about the food, it tasted good and there was a decent variety to choose from. The rooms were very run of the mill, kinda outdated and what you might expect at an older resort in northern Ontario. Nothing to rave about. Was this the place I'd choose for a company retreat? Probably not - but only because you're stuck in 1 spot eating at the same places every day...but if you're only here for a day or 2, it would be ok.

No thanks to…read morethe unseasonably warm weather, there was rain from Mon - Wed which kept us from our original plan to hit the slopes for the week. Thankfully, Deerhurst had enough indoor activities (pool, game room, climbing wall, escape rooms, nightly activities including a very good magic show...etc) to keep us busy until the weather finally cleared enough to go skiing at the nearby Hidden Valley Resort on Thurday and Friday. Our room was well appointed (stayed in Summit Lodge) but there were a few things that did not work very well (fridge didn't get cold enough and water pressure in the shower was weak.). It was also inconvenient to schlep all our gear up and down the stairs without an elevator but that's on us. Note to self for the next visit. We ate at the Maple bar (tavern?) on our first night (nachos, wings and a pizza) and the beers (Muskoka brewery) were flat and the food was ho hum. Next morning's breakfast buffet at the Compass fared a bit better with good selection of entrees but weak coffee. Freshly squeezed OJ was a big hit with our girl. Last night's dinner at the Compass was probably the best meal at the resort but rather pricey for what you get (2 drinks, charcuterie board, octopus salad and chicken fingers for $100+). There was a magic show we attended with incredibly kind magician, Don Gudel and the infamous Cookie the Rabbit, which my daughter loved! The magician was patient and genial. He took the time to give ALL the kids who did not get a chance to volunteer during the show a chance to experience his magic first hand by staying a whole hour later to entertain his little guests. We got a chance to stroll around the resort grounds and from what we could see, it would make for a very lovely visit during the summer months as well. Maybe that's what we'll plan for our next visit to Deerhurst. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and would consider returning.

A moderately challenging course if you're not a long hitter on some of the holes. If you can't clear at least 200, it'll be impossible to get a cross a few valleys even hitting from Whites. Not sure how many people can play off the Gold tees except for the really long and accurate players. Lots of blind shots where if you don't play this course a few times will make it an interesting time to say the least. Lots of decisions to make. Nice clubhouse with a good dinning area. Service from the bag drop folks to marshalls were all fantastic.

Management couldn't be better!! the food and beverage manager is such a sweet girl and always makes sure we have everything we could possibly need while being warm and welcoming every time. All the young service staff are always so attentive and bubbly! Joseph in maintenance has worked there for many many years and always greets us with a smile and some jokes as he always remembers us everytime! I cannot wait until the golf course opens again so me and my hubby can go out for lunch every Wednesday like we have been for years!!!

Never golfing here again. It is a fine course but one of the marshals single-handedly ruined my…read moreplaying experience. We had 3 golfers and 2 spectators with us on the course. We were on the green of a early hole and the 2 spectators were out of there cart watching me and the 2 other golfer finish the hole. During this one of the spectators was holding the clubs we weren't using while the 3 golfer had just their putters. While we were putting a marshal showed up and began to berate us for having 4 golfers playing even though there were only 3 balls on the green and the 2 spectators were clearly watching and just holding our clubs. We stayed calm and tried to talk to the marshal to explain the spectator was just holding our clubs and that there were only 3 golfers which was shown with there only being 3 balls on the green. The marshal would not listen and was extremely rude saying that this was a strike and he may have to kick us off the course. He could have approached us in a much more calm way that wouldn't have resulted in such an aggressive outcome. The marshal then proceeded to follow us from a distance just waiting for something that wasn't going to happen as only 3 of us were golfing. The 2 spectators also had to pay 20$ each to watch to begin with and after the encounter with the marshal they didn't even leave the cart as they didn't want to be perceived as "golfers" by the marshal following us around even though the CARELY WERE NOT GOLFING. During when the marshal was berating us he had said "this is a business we're trying to run". This is in fact true as I along with everyone else who was golfing with me that day will not be giving this course any of our business ever again. Go to Deerhurst Highlands instead. Much better course with better staff.

I golfed here as my first time golfing ever and had a fantastic time. The course is well maintained, and has a good level of difficulty to it. They have carts but you can also walk the course if you'd like as well. No clubhouse for food, but the main building has drinks and snacks for purchase. I'm looking forward to getting back out on this course next summer!
