Did a great job and used quality materials on our fence. Really happy with the way it turned out.read more

Should have been a 5 star experience; it was a 2.5 star experience…read more On Day 2 of an estimated four day job, the owner of Colorado Fence and Deck showed up unnanounced to do a "walk through" while the work was ongoing. Shortly after, the crew left before all of the agreed upon work was completed. Crew lead returned later the same day to complete the work after I discussed my concerns with the owner. Within a couple of days, a deck floor board (actually two boards pieced together) near the deck entrances began to make noise when stepped on. The owner confirmed that he was aware that two boards were used when I expressed my concern. We set up another day for someone to come out and address the issue. The crew lead arrived on the agreed upon date and completed the replacement, as well as adjusted the fence gate repair that was already not working correctly. The request for the fence gate to be addressed was not communicated to the crew lead even though I included it in my appointment confirmation text. To date, the adjusted gate is currently working as expected. Unfortunately, the deck board that was replaced is also moving and is making noise, suggesting that the board is not secured as the other floor boards of the deck (which are not making noise). This problem is obvious by sound and feel, even when the dog walks on the deck board. As noted by another reviewer, some of the boards used on the deck probably should have been set aside for a more consistent quality deck floor. To date, the owner of Colorado Fence and Deck has not followed up to confirm that all of the repair work was completed satisfactorily. To be clear, the work has not been completed satisfactorily.

I spent over a year budgeting for a new fence, so I was very detailed in my research on who to…read morechoose for the job. I requested quotes for four other companies in our area and decided to go with Juan and his company as they had the most competitive offer for what I wanted installed. During my initial inquiry, I knew that I was going to get great service from the onset of our conversation. I requested a quote using his website and within an hour he contacted me and arranged to accommodate my schedule and came out on a Sunday to do a site survey. By Sunday evening I had an estimate and three days later his team of professionals were installing my new fence. They were extremely professional, polite and completed over 200' of red cedar fencing within two days. Additionally, they did an extremely detailed walkthrough and cleaned up all the debris. I have dogs, this was a very nice touch and spoke volumes to the quality of their work and I didnt have to worry about screws or nails being left in my yard. I plan on having them come out next year to install a wood Pergolas. Seriously, if you're in the Aurora area and looking for a new fence, Juan is your man.

UPDATE: Juan threatened my personhood & property - to illegally trespass on our property & remove…read morethe new fence & gate, which would also result in theft, as he removed our old fence & gate. I've been advised to report him to Denver Police & my attorney. ---- Over-promise & Under-deliver, with a side of machismo - by the owner: Juan. ----- It all started innocently, when I called Kim, the receptionist, for an estimate in late Sep or early Oct. Instead of sending a person out for an estimate, she told me all she needed was photos of my existing fence & gate, and from there, she'd create an estimate. At no point did she ask me for measurements, and - given I'm not in the fencing, gate, construction, painting, or staining industry - I trusted her & her boss, Juan, as well as foreman Raul and Ruin to guide me through the process. This is, after all, why I hired the job out, and hired what I thought were professionals. Instead, on the initial scheduled day, it came to my attention that they only purchased enough materials for a 6-foot fence & 6-foot gate, when it was clear - from the photos - that the fence was higher than the gate (8-feet). Raul & I canceled that job, and we re-scheduled from Mon 10/9 to Tue 10/17. In parallel, I was told by Kim that she/they could easily match the existing stain on my fence/gate, and I need not worry about finding a color. This was also untrue. After the reschedule, Kim asked me to find photos of stains I liked. I started on Home Depot, and they had hundreds, if not thousands, of brands, types of stains (oil-based or water-based), and colors. I had no idea where to start. Given I was hiring professionals - or so I thought - in order to narrow it down, I went to JCQN's Yelp page, and found photos of their past/sample work that I liked. I took photos of the fences & gates I liked - including style & color, and changed my initial fence/gate design from vertical pickets to horizontal, to be more modern. And I decided on a natural redwood stain, and sent photos of both the style I desired, and color. Kim & I resolved the initial measurement misunderstanding, and she was diplomatic, professional, and apologetic, acknowledging she should've explained the material measurements on the estimate, and asked me to measure & verify. Yes! Again, the reason you hire professionals, is for them to guide you with their experience. If I wanted to DIY, I would've gone to Home Depot myself, rather than to Yelp. I did not have the time - or interest - to DIY, which is why I trusted JCQN's multiple reviews, and nearly 5-star status. WRONG! Just like my beau has consistently been telling me - don't trust the reviews. I learned this lesson the hard way, with this company. Tue 10/17 came & went, and Ruin & another gentleman installed a great looking fence & gate - this time, with the correct measurements. Though I wanted to have it stained & sealed on the same day, fearing this exact situation, Kim told me the owner, Juan, said that's not possible, and the wood needs to "sit" for "one week" then it moved to "one and a half weeks," which raised suspicion. (Home Depot's paint/stain & lumber departments told me this was BS last night, as I suspected. If the wood is cedar - as I was told it would be, not fabricated, it does not need to sit before staining.) According to Juan/Kim, I had to wait 1-week, then 1.5-weeks, then only a few days to stain/seal. We scheduled it for Fri 10/20. Fri 10/20 arrived, and Kim canceled, saying Juan was too busy. I pulled rank. Then Juan was magically going to show-up after all. He arrived, with the wrong stain - not the one Kim & I discussed, and I selected. Juan attempted to gaslight & blame me - for his mistake - rather than accepting accountability & owning it, and that story is too long for the character limits of Yelp, unfortunately. Juan blamed me - the female customer. Juan blamed Kim - the female employee, including blaming her age: "she's only 20," vs. his "20-years of experience at age 50". Juan blamed me: "I only want to make you happy," attempting to imply I wouldn't be happy with my initial redwood stain selection, and I should go with the cedar/natural he brought, thinking he could manipulate me, in order to fix his mistake. It was a huge mess. Juan then refused to reschedule the job (something about his personal affairs & if he doesn't repair his son's house by next Tuesday, he'll "go to jail"), and now I'm stuck with a beautiful raw, wood fence & gate - that will mold & become useless the minute it rains or snows. Kim negotiated with Juan to refund me the $1,800 I paid for the fence & gate, but neither one of them can refund me the $1,840 worth of my billable *TIME* (that I can never get back) that I wasted on this nightmare. Luckily, I now have 1 other contractor scheduled for Monday, and 3 on stand-by, should that fall through, given the weather is getting colder, which is not ideal for staining.
