Who knew that tucked in the backstreets of Otahuhu was this beautiful green oasis?!…read more This was my first visit to the garden centre, Natural Tree Products (NTP), who have the largest range of indoor plants in NZ, and I must say I was impressed. There were Cycads, Ficus Trees, Queens Palms and a whole host of Sub-Tropical plants. My green fingers were quite literally tingling as I walked from greenhouse to greenhouse. Whilst Natural Tree Products specializes in Plant Hire, their nursery is also open for the public from Monday to Saturday and with prices lower than most garden centres, this place is well worth checking out. On my trip to NTP, I also discovered (and fell in love with) Woolly Pockets. Originally hailing from San Francisco and sold locally by NTP, these clever little planters are an accessible and affordable way to create your very own living wall. Made 100% from recycled plastic and starting at only $50 a pop, these things are genius and as soon as our kitchen is renovated I will be installing a succulent wall ASAP! Also good to note, is PalmCo, the big palm professional is down the same driveway.

I get so bored of the limited selection and quality at standard garden centers so was absolutely chuffed when I heard of this gem in Otahuhu that has an enormous selection and premium quality without the premium price tag. These guys know their plants too so can offer some great advice and help plan for every type of garden. If you are lucky you might spot the adorable sausage dog Frank who is lucky enough to call this place his second home. I have a collection by my front door which I think I forgot to water for the past year, and they are still going strong. Succulents are like the indestructible, bionic man of the plant world. Coromandel Cacti is the place to go for your succulent/cactus supply. It's weird turning up, ringing the buzzer and waiting - you have to wonder what is going on behind the ominous gates - those succulent leaves are rather juicy after all... Once you are inside, all thoughts are forgotten. It seems like there are acres of plants in here, and it's almost a guarantee you will be leaving with something - even if just to justify the journey out here and the ominous feeling of the building.

Do you love cacti and succulents? Are you tired of visiting all those plant stores when all you…read morereally want is a good cactus? Sick and tired of regular plant stores not having a decent cacti section? Well then you need to pay a visit to Coromandel Cacti and Succulents for you cactus fix. This big old shed of a building contains cacti as far as the eye can see. It's a bit weird though when you turn up and have to ring the buzzer in order to be let into the store. I'm not sure if they are guarding against a big cactus heist, but once you're in you're in cactus heaven my friend. The staff know what they're talking about, so ask them if you have any botanical related questions.
