Yes the theatre is old. Yes it is in the middle of nowhere. But for its location and staff, it could be ranked higher than some of the biggest theatres around. The linestaff is friendly as long as you are. But even if you are the meanest person ever, they don't escalate situations. Last night some guy started arguing with the manager and stormed out. Then I check here and all I see is a review littered with lies. This man recorded a linestaffer doing nothing as evidence?? For what? Doing ok job? What are you going to do? The linestaff did nothing to you and all the manager did was try to talk to you. I honestly feel bad for the staff and especially feel bad that they have to deal with people such as him. Hope everything goes well and I hope that guy doesn't spew those lies around. Other than that, the theatre is great. Concessions are fairly cheap compared to other theatres, the popcorn is delicious, the seats are comfortable, and the vibe is great!! If you get a chance, you should check it out. read more

We had a great time at the Rogers Cinema 5 in Houghton. The other commenters need to chill. The prices are better than downstate or in any Big cities. We had no problems at all. As to the person who wanted to bring in water bottles...get a life and spend a few bucks for the kids and stop being so cheap. Movies were picture clear and the sound was good. read more

Bought an orange juice that tastes awful. Asked, very kindly as I am a former retail worker so I know it's not their fault, for a bottled water to replace it. They acted like I asked them to solve world hunger. They did at least give me the water but the female who I assume is manager tried to start an argument about it as I left which came across extremely unprofessional. I simply said have a goodnight and left. Would not have even thought anything of it had she not created a scene over it. Like a "Karen" but in reverse. Would not go to this theater again, would rather travel the 2 hrs to Marquette. They need some customer service training and then maybe they would get enough business not to have to fret over losing a couple dollars on a bottle of water. read more

Hats off to Rogers Cinema for having customer appreciation days! Myself and 4 other members of my family went to see Captain Underpants today for free! We only had to pay for concessions! Seeing as how pricey it is to go to the movies these days, this was a very nice thing to do for their customers. Great job! Almost all seats were filled! As for the theatre itself, it is older and it is the only one in town..but for being in a small town community, we learn to appreciate these things...at one time we had 3 theatres in the area and now we are down to just this one. I, myself, feel thankful that we still have a movie theatre in town! read more

We were in Houghton for US championships and wanted to catch the new Star Wars on an off day so I took a group of athletes. Being athletes at a national championships we ask that they are responsible and stay hydrated. So we sent them to the movies with a water bottle. When we went to buy our tickets we were told they do not allow outside food or drink. This I completely understand and offered to dump out the water and refill inside. I was told this was also not allowed. I was told to buy a drink or I could use the water fountain. Keep in mind this is 13 paying athletes and two coaches. (Half of the business that afternoon) When I asked to speak to management to see if they could make an exception I was told no these are the rules and I was holding up the line... (Of our athletes?) I begrudgingly bought my ticket and took a step back to collect the athletes water bottles as they went into the theater. The man behind the counter then told me I needed to leave the cinema because I was there with contraband. Laughing as I was only 1 foot into the concessions area I literally took one step to the right back into the courtyard to collect the water bottles. Once the other coach bought his ticket he stepped over to pass me his water bottle so I could run them all out to the car. After we talked for about 15 seconds he turned and walked back in the cinema and was stopped by the man behind the counter demanding his ticket again. The one he had purchased 30 sec prior from the same guy... Really??? Laughing he produced the ticket which the man behind the counter inspected and then let him in. Once I had collected all the water bottles I went back out to the cars to drop them off. When I came in the man behind the counter tried to justify the decision saying that they offer free refills... Sorry that's not a good excuse for us! When we finally sat in the rundown old theater and watch the movie he sent employees down the isles constantly searching for water bottles. I later heard from another coach that he kick someone out for sneaking a water bottle in. It's really too bad with so few options that we had no other choice is to take our business to. read more

After reading other reviews, I was a little nervous to go here. I didn't encounter any problems like the others. The prices were typical of a movie theater and they had new hit movies. The theaters are smaller than usual, but hey, you're in the UP. Whenever I need something to do in Houghton, this isn't a bad option. P.S. -If you go before 5, they have matinee prices. read more

This theatre is the worst. It's dirty, dingy, and dated, which is honestly not a big deal. We're here to watch movies, right? Well, the screens are terrible and the projectors are improperly calibrated. Some of them have an off-center image, and the 3D projector is so improperly calibrated that you can't focus on the image half the time. Streaking and ghosting, double images (especially around the edges)... it's awful. Snacks are reasonably priced (for a movie theatre, meaning still outrageous) but what good is a snack when the screen you're paying $10 to see a movie on is off-center and all messed up? The sad part is, I can't even pretend I'll never go back, because they're the only cinema in the area. So if I want to see a movie, I'll HAVE to watch it at this terrible establishment. read more

Being the only movie theater in town I regret that this is the only option specially for students. However it does not mean that they enforce whatever made up rules they want. Expensive snacks, terrible seats, low quality screen and rude staff. I suggest if you really want to enjoy a movie go to Marquette or any other town. Believe me it worth driving for couple of hours. Hope that they change their behavior to attract more business. read more

The theater is not great. It needs to be cleaned more often. Many of the seats are broken. They play the same movies for weeks on end so there is not a lot of variety. It's more comfortable to stay home and stream. read more

Always enjoy the movies here. Having said that, I have had quite a few less than pleasurable run-ins with the manager Jason. He argues with and belittles customers. He definitely does not have the customer's best interest at heart. I don't know how he is still there to continue his reign of terror. I have heard from numerous credible sources that he has also practiced poor customer service with them. Overall customer satisfaction for the last few movies I have seen would be a 4/10. This is solely because of the previously mentioned experiences with the manager. When I go to the movies I go to enjoy myself and it is clear to me that I just can't do that at Roger's Cinema 5 in the Copper Country Mall. Looks like I'll just have to go to Marquette or Greenbay for a more enjoyable movie viewing experience.... read more

To the "US Champions" coach...rules are rules and they apply to everyone. Good job staff at the Rogers Theater! Our 3 kids play AAA hockey and I would have been disappointed if my kid came home and told me his coach tried to break rules set by an establishment. Coaches are life role models for every situation not just "US championships"...you should be embarrassed for exposing yourself by writing this review. We come up to the area once or twice a year from OH....we have no affiliation to the theater. The UP is a great place to get away from the snobby, self centered wannabies:). Shame on you coach for missing an opportunity with 13 impressionable athletes. read more

It's only the place in town for films and honestly I try to avoid it at all costs. I'd much rather drive 2 hours to Marquette. The theater is dingy and dirty. The seats make me have to schedule an appointment with the chiropractor every time. And honestly this would all be manageable but the manager. Oh God oh God the manager. He belittles the costumers. He makes the environment very uncomfortable. Cold stares and glares. On my visit there I bought a ticket and he weirdly looked at my credit card. Just scanning it with his cold eyes. When I finally got to watch my movie the movie kept skipping on the advertisements which isn't too bad but then in the middle of the movie it went black for 5/6 minutes and non of the staff could fix it. Through out the film it went black over 4 times. The manager "Jason" refused any refunds. I just hope next time if there is a next time. I will be given better service and hopefully a new manager. God I pray the Lode opens back up. read more

Personally I think the theatre is absolutely fine. Compared to huge cities - it's wonderful and holds it's own. The picture has always been clear. The snacks are priced accordingly, cheaper than normal in bigger areas. And having the monopoly up here they didn't have to do that. Think about it. The staff is very kind and friendly.
