Everbrook Academy (Coolidge Corner North) offers an extremely convenient location, snacks and lunch included (for all except the infants, of course), and a new Director (Tonya), who has made a positive impact since she started around Christmas time. There are also a number of teachers who truly care about the children, as well as we parents and families. There have been times when the school definitely struggled with teacher retention. However, we have seen more stability now, and can still count on some of the more tenured, seasoned, and rock solid teachers to keep on leading the way. My son (pre-k class) has needed some increased attention and support in certain areas. I can without a doubt say that the teachers (Miss. Rachel and Mr. Kaleb), along with our new Director (Tonya), have done everything they can to communicate closely and directly with me, and to work with my son to help him from day to day. Miss. Rachel, in particular, has worked in the pre-k classroom for a few years now, and is an extremely bright, talented, sharp, attentive, and engaging teacher and leader. I feel lucky that we have her! Like I said before, I feel that Tonya and the teachers have been very involved and communicative regarding my son, which has been helpful. Tonya is always quick to respond when I have something to address. I believe that things have been improving at the school since she became the Director just a few months ago. I also believe that the curriculum is good, in terms of preparing the children for kindergarten. Overall, I think that the cost of daycare is high (and yes Everbrook has raised the price every year, and has some additional fees that creep in, like their "summer camp" program)...but their hours are decent (although used to be better before covid!), and with few holiday and vacation closures. Ultimately, this is a good, safe, and caring place to send young children.

We chose TCC because by all measures TCC was on par with the ultra elite preschools (student teacher ratio, teacher qualifications), but the facility seemed much nicer, and they have a very large playground. It's also substantially less expensive. It's also very convenient as there is a parking garage with free 15 minute drop off parking, and the 43 bus stops right in front of the school. We couldn't be happier with our decision. The teachers were fantastic, and the community of families is very diverse and welcoming. A few of the teachers have been there for around 20 years, and one even teaches at a local university. All the families that wanted to transition to some of the elite private schools in the city had no problem. After finishing preschool at TCC our twins moved onto K2 at the Hurley School. We were very sad to leave TCC, but our kids were definitely ready for kindergarten.

Recently became a parent at GNS via the Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP)…read more I had many reasons to be nervous about my kiddo starting preschool - pretty big aversion to playing with other children, having essentially no daycare/nanny experience, loud "no school!" when the idea was brought up periodically in attempts to make it less foreign, being a picky eater, etc. True story - when we did a classroom visit, where families can come and see the school, be in the classrooms, and meet the teachers, my kiddo said "why do I like school?" 5 minutes into it and the rest is history (currently in the making). The thought "oh, I can leave my kiddo here" came to me pretty unexpectedly and clearly during that visit, and I legit got pretty emotional. The other reviews ring true. Some of the things that made us withdraw our 3yo mid-year: Despite a stated open-door policy, parents were actively discouraged from involvement in or visiting the classroom. In March, a formal school memo forbade parents from speaking to each other at drop-off/pickup, asked parents to drop their children off at the front door instead of at the classroom door, and instructed parents not to carry their children or their children's belongings. The memo specifically suggested that any discipline problems at home were caused by not following the same rigid "expectations" as the school. When our son was afraid to use the toilet at school, the teacher forced him to sit on the toilet for 45 min while he cried in frustration. He was criticized for not doing work exactly the way the teachers wanted (e.g. sorting puzzle in the "right" order). In a parent conference, we were told our son was "too literal" because asked where rain came from, he said "From the sky," not "From clouds." He was already reading and adding at 3, but we were told this, along with his shyness, were signs of a possible psychological problem. We were bullied to take him for autism screening, even after a specialist and our pediatrician said he was likely fine. Administration, up to the head of school, either ignored problems or blamed us. When we sent a formal letter detailing our complaints, the school offered us a partial tuition refund if we signed a nondisparagement agreement. We refused. We've since learned other families had similar experiences. If you click on Yelp's "non-recommended reviews"--which are weeded out by algorithm--you'll see that other families have made similar complaints.

Bigelow is Reggio Emilia inspired, and focuses on child-led learning, so when the teachers noticed our kid and several others were interested in writing letters, they incorporated opportunities into everyday activities. Boom, our 4 year old is writing! The facilities are also lovely, and include a large shared space for gross motor play even when the weather is yucky. Most of all, we have really appreciated the community of other families, many of whom have become friends.

The teachers are wonderful, creative, loving, I cant say enough good things really. They create many opportunities for children to explore and discover. The classrooms are spacious and inviting with lots of windows and there is a giant playroom in the center of school for those days that outside play isn't an option. The school has a very large fenced yard that has trees, giant sand pit with water pump, track for biking/scooting/push alongs, and garden. It is truly a gem.

We are both teachers and have implemented some of the strategies in our own classrooms! The infant and toddler room was safe, teachers communicate well, and are caring. The preschool room (2-3years) was also welcoming, caring teachers, and safe. They take the kids to activities like walks, local parks, and keep them safe. The best experience has been pre-K; They are really a comprehensive Pre K program, with 2 teachers / up to 20 kids, and incorporate reading, writing, science, math, field trips, park, library, swimming.. I have toured other pre-K's including expensive private preK's in newton. None of them were up to par with LCSH. LCSH is both quite affordable for its excellent location, and comprehensive. Diverse students are a plus. The other pre-K's including much more expensive private places like Bright Horizon's do not do field trips, swimming, theatre, yoga etc like LCSH incorporates....so, having toured a bunch of other pre-K I love LCSH the most.. Ms Sandra is the contact / local director and she is pretty busy I am sure responsive when needed. The teachers in Pre K have been also very responsive by the app every day, sharing photos, responding to your questions, etc. And accommodating for example I wanted privacy for bathroom for the kids/ dietary restrictions like gelatin etc they were always aware and made sure to follow the preferences. 10/10 recommend.

He loves it there and therefore we love it there. The teachers do a great job updating the parent communication app (Brightwheel) and I love getting anywhere from 3-10 photos of him doing fun things throughout the day. A brief update of what they did for the day is also posted in the app. Both toddler and preschool teachers send out a monthly curriculum of the theme for the month and what the kids are learning. This is great because then we can reinforce the same themes at home. They mix it up with activities including periodic yoga and children's musicians. If I were to have any more "wants" it would be to go outside more. They do go on walks and to the playground almost daily, depending on weather. I'm all about outdoor time so I would have them out in a drizzle and even when it's cold -- but, this isn't an outdoor school, and they do spend a good amount of time outside. Other big plusses in my book are low teacher turnover and hours (6:30am-6:30pm). We usually do ~8:30am-6pm but it's nice that it's open earlier for those days when I have an early appointment or it's an exceptionally early wake up. It's a welcoming environment and I'm glad my son is happy to run in to play every day.
