Otherwise, you may wind up with a huge bill. Several weeks ago, I contacted Shaw Plumbing. I explained by phone conversation and email that I all needed him to do was confirm that three roof vents of mine are actually plumbing vents (to answer a question from a prospective buyer). I did not get a price up front because charges from him in the past were fair. This time, he was at my house no more than an hour to simply go up on the roof and peer at the vents. He charged me $463 for labor--$388 for himself and $75 for his helper, whose sole task was to get a ladder from the truck. Shaw said he had to drive a long way and anyway, those were his standard rates. Shaw is a good plumber but there are a lot of good ones who don't do this.

I had a leak in the drain from the washer and dryer in the kitchen so it was gray water. It's not a…read morebig leak, but it was a leak and was starting to smell under the house so I called one plumbing company and they were real busy for at least a week and I called Ray Lusk and they could be there in 30 minutes and they were and he looked at it. He took pictures. He took a video. I knew exactly what they were gonna do he said OK let me make a phone call. See how much they wanna charge you came back. This is not a big deal. It was cutting out cast-iron and putting in PVC in place so at the most maybe a two hour job at the most he came back with almost a $2000 bill which was outrageous. I couldn't believe it. I said well you know I can't afford that. I guess I'll just have to put up with it so he left. He came back with a $1200 bill and I said no I'm not doing that either. He finally came back one more time with $1000 at the most they should've called $600. It was a $15 stick. It was a 10 foot stick of 3 inch PVC I looked it up no excuse me 2 inch PVC I looked it up. It cost $15. I did it because I didn't have any choice. I needed it done that day because I was going back to work and I didn't know if there would be another plumber available. Someone had paid the money, but that is outrageous. That is outrageous that is thievery that they would even think that I would be that stupid to believe that it cost that much it's outrageous and I'll never call them back again. If I have time to get somebody else, I will not the job was top quality you ain't gonna have to worry about they did. He did a great job. He showed me pictures, but to me that was just an insult. He told me the steps they would take. Told me of his reviews and license and accreditation. As he worked, he would take pictures and show me the damage and explained the fix. It did go past my budget, but galvanized pipe used for water lines WILL do that. Better spend it now than have a $200 / month water bill. And he got it all done in one day, working into the dark hours! If I could give a 6th star, I would!
