Nestled in next to an express version of one of Britain's largest supermarkets (I think you know what I mean) it is a fantastic relief to find a place like Mezzaluna. With it's menu filled with gorgeous and tasty food which would compliment any evening meal, the restaurant also serves up daily pannini and other items for those of you looking to have breakfast out of the house or for a little treat at brunch. The décor of the restaurant is beautiful and a perfect compliment to the delightful served. The bar is also well stocked and is a very welcome addition to the restaurant, and brings some style and individuality to this little corner of West Street.

The menu ranges from your usual English favourites like burgers, steak and Sunday roasts, but their more European options are worth checking out! Plus, their pizza is fantastic! And I don't say this lightly, but I have given up with pizzahut because of this place. Nice Italian flat base and you can get a 14 inch takeout for £6.00 at the moment! Anyway, I've always loved the atmosphere in mezzaluna, it's a family run local cafe and the owners are always great to sit and have a chat with. Sold?

The other options include cured salmon, and a veggie breakfast - I'm not a vegetarian but decided to go for the veggie breakfast on this visit and it was exquisite, a mix of seasonal wild mushrooms including hedgehog mushrooms & ceps with poached eggs on sourdough toast with harrisa. Just hope it's still on next time I visit. My only complaint about this place is that they don't open until 10am at the weekend

I used to call in quite regularly when I lived on Coronation Road, slipping out slyly in the mornings for a coffee and a snack, to get some air into my lungs before returning to a nicotine fug and rabid writing sessions later on. I'd been commissioned to write an incredibly challenging book, and sought some sanity at Souk. I would dolefully leave after about an hour, chanting, 'writing, writing, writing, raw eyed', all the way home. The gentile serving staff always made me feel welcome, and were always willing to accommodate my every whim, happily making my coffee just how I like it. Nevertheless, I'm not sure if I would have visited so regularly if it weren't for the fact that the Tobacco Factory doesn't open till twelve noon. Perhaps I would. I've grown rather fond of everyone who works there, and their sweet snacks are delicious.

However, little was I to know that my mouth and belly were both in for such a treat. We had the Cardamom tea (not strong enough for my liking) and mixed mezze to share, which was mouth wateringly delicious. Even the salad dressing was taste bud tingling, absolutely loved it. Between us we then went for Lamb Shawarma and Tourshana. I couldn't fault the lamb. Succulent and tasty to the end. Then came dessert, oh sweet dessert. Mahalabi and Baklava between us. We were very satisfied customers. Lebanese food definitely agrees with my mouth and belly. The owner/waiter was courteous and easy to chat to, throughout. He used to be an engineer and when the recession hit he set up Afendi. If his engineering is as good as his cooking I'd like to see some of his feats of engineering! Loved the Afendi logo, unfortunately the mugs aren't for sale!

Unfortunately Afendi is not as good but is also not as bad as others I have tried. We got a take away from there, we got babaganoush (SP) which was very nice, lovely flat breads, chicken wings which were ok, I didn't like the spicy sausages, they were too "clovey" for me but the mixed grill was really nice, the meat was well cooked and not dry as so often it can be, the tabboleh (SP) was also good. In all I would say that it was a nice dinner and I will definitely be using them again but unfortunatley for this place I have had the don of lebanese and I wonder if I'll ever find a place to compare.

Nazar is described on a website as: "A Nazar or evil eye stone (Turkish: Nazar Boncugu) is an amulet that is meant to protect against the evil eye." It certainly does that, and that seems to have a side affect, which is amazing food! The food is all very traditional, and you can tell it all comes from very frsh sources (and tasty ones at that). You can also indulge yourself in a good selection of Turkish Wines. 'What on in Bristol' says that: "The restaurant attracts a wide range of customers from families eager to discover Turkish cuisine and to cherish memories of being on holiday in Turkey and enjoy the fine delights." Now, i've never been to Turkey, and from sampling some of the food I certainly want to visit! But, I am a bit worried that my expectation might be to high... There is a great feel from the service you recieve, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a family run business (which I am pretty sure it is)

We were not disappointed. Being a novice at Turkish cuisine we opted for the set meal for 2 at £18.50 a head. We had some bread and olives to start - bread was fluffy but really nice. Then came a nice selection of cold dishes including dips, Dolmas, Humos and others we could not pronounce. Next came a selection of hot meze, holumi cheese, meatballs and others. Large portions for starters very nice and good value. This was followed by 2 large mixed grills with chicken and lamb kebabs, lamb chop, savoury meat balls stir fry veg, salad and rice ( loads and enough for another person) The waiter was genuinly friendly and explained what everythiing was. Then we had a selection of Turkish deserts strawberries and cream followed by filter or Turkish coffee. We drank the house wine which was very nice too. Everything was freshly cooked and tasted delicious. What a wonderful place to eat - great menu great service very reasonable prices - we are definately coming again. Recommended please try it - its one of the best restaurants we have been to

I love pizza! I love Gloucester Road. I love Flour and Ash!…read more It's been a while since I've found a small pizza place that I've absolutely loved. There's a few good places to 'grab a slice' in Bristol, but none quite like Flour and Ash. The restaurant is intimately small, with really nice, large windows and a row of tables against each wall and a row a bigger tables through the middle of the restaurant. Now, the pizza. OMG, the pizza! I was lucky enough to go with a few people, so I got to try a slice of a few, but the stand outs for me was the Ox Cheek and the Filler Steak. The Ox Cheek had a béchamel base with Ox cheek and parmesan, which was surprisingly amazing. It wouldn't have been something I normally went for, as it didn't have tomato base, but I saw it on a recent blog post so had to try it. When I go again I'll try something else, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't been before. The fillet steak pizza was HUGE! The tomato base was absolutely delicious and the steak was perfect; not at all fatty or gristly! They sell lots of local beers and ciders and they actually had one of the best malbecs I've ever tasted. If you like red wine, you seriously need to try it. Flour & Ash? BIG fan!

We wanted a place that was…read morea bit different, can cater for big groups and was casual for the start of the night before going to a few bars. After considering a couple of options Flour and Ash seemed like it met the criteria. I provisionally booked a table for 10.... After 4 phone calls and gradual increases the table number became 20! The guys there were happy to accommodate but did warn that it was the absolute max, as would take up half the restaurant and due to the set up of 1 stone bake pizza oven the food would have to come out in stages. Table booked. I'd had a look at the website prior to booking and they had some extremely intriguing pizza's on the menu all with a contemporary twist such as the pizza I eventually chose; ox cheek with béchamel sauce and parmesan. All the pizzas are made with sourdough, cooked in the pre-mentioned stone bake oven, which is an absolute beast by the way! If you're after a desert there's a simple choice of locally sourced ice creams that have various different flavours, some a little off kilter like rice pudding and nutmeg! The restaurant is decorated light and minimal with long benches through the middle which catered for our large group and smaller tables up each side. The place has a modern feel to it. You can see right in to the kitchen where the centrepiece of the giant stone bake oven is flaming. A number of us went for the ox cheek pizza and all thought it was amazing, genius! In fact everyone enjoyed their pizzas. Other highlights included the beef fillet, horseradish & rosemary and the chorizo, pickled chillies & rocket. There's also an excellent selection of beers and ciders on offer which I sampled quite a few of! The chocolate milkshake Wiper & True stout was a winner! Service wise the restaurant did struggle a little with the large group. However this is totally understandable as they had said at the outset that it was a push to cater for 20 and due to the kitchen set up the website clearly states pizzas may come out at different times. We had a little trouble paying at the end of the meal as there was a problem with the till, so we had to hang around for a bit. But there's always going to be teething problems with a new restaurant and I guess this can't really be helped any way. All in all definitely recommended, if anything maybe for a slightly smaller group. I'll be back. Thanks for accommodating Flour & Ash!
