I'm also dyslexic when it comes to anything remotely mathematical so a breakdown of figures was a must. With all this in mind, I nervously contacted Belgarum about a few student houses I was interested in (having never dealt with an estate agent before). The staff were more than happy to cater to my needs, breaking down all of the figures numerous times so that I could understand. I must have called them a dozen times and they were patient and courteous every time. On viewing properties, I was reassured that Belgarum are very flexible in terms of our needs and are willing to help out wherever possible (as long as we remain respectful and look after the house, of course!) This eased me in greatly and I knew I had made the right decision to choose them. The only downfall is that, even as a student, the fees are very expensive. However, this is real estate, so I guess I'd be asked to pay hefty fees whoever I chose. Since dealing with Belgarum, I've been kept up-to-date with the progress of our application and well informed regarding paperwork and referencing. Staff are swamped with work (I guess) and do not always respond to emails concerning landlords or property issues. I had a problem with my house, and the agent in charge told me to go talk to the landlord who did nothing about it. Contracts were broken by both the agency and landlord concerning everything from human welfare to simple inventory lists not ever being written up. Our boiler did not come with a safety certificate, which Aspens was supposed to have and would not respond when contacted about that. They also tend to not know who the landlords are, which means there are many "slumlords" harassing students. When in doubt, it's the students' faults. Find a private landlord. Do not sign a letting with Aspens.

I eventually plumped for a small one bed flat and battered the price down from £450 to £425 per calendar month this was 4 years ago. They were very helpful and friendly towards us and was happy with their management of the property. They worked with the landlord to replace a window that kept misting up and was done without any arguments.
