Fisher House Bed and Breakfast - Charles' room features a king bed and maple trim made on the premises.

Craftsmanship Rebuilds an Extraordinary Corner Mansion…read more Beautiful, immaculate, and comfortable with a fascinating story, Fisher House Bed & Breakfast offers a lovely stay in Clinton, Iowa on a corner in walking distance of downtown shops, the amazing Seven Hills Brewery with wood-fired pizza, and the Mississippi River levee. Four traditionally furnished bedrooms (two queens, one king, and one king suite) have tasteful colors, lots of light, and crafted details. Each of the second floor bedrooms has an en suite bathroom with different combinations of tubs and/or showers. A huge bonus is a pleasant communal kitchen at the end of the wide hallway which has a small outside landing. We stayed in the Charles Baldwin Room with a lovely four-poster bed. Peggy reviews all breakfast choices for guests with an eye to any specific dietary needs and from continental to full breakfast has generous, delicious options. The welcoming entry opens to a main floor with a quiet living room, classic dining room, and enjoyable game/billiards room. This is not a remodel; this total rebuild was done with thoughtful planning and superb craftsmanship by the owners Dan and Peggy Fisher. Many aspects of the maple window trims, pocket doors, and wood flooring were custom made by Dan and his crew. The exterior is still in process. Wood was an important economic driver of Clinton, so the woodwork is a tribute to the town. We are already revising travel plans to revisit Fisher House. That says it all.

This one was surprisingly and shockingly clean so that's the reason for the four stars. Also for a weekend it was relatively quiet and peaceful. Check in with simple and easy. The bathroom was clean the towels were good. I would stay there again if I had to be in doctors in that area again.

Fast forward to 2022, and after taxes I paid $165/night. I knew the prices went up but dang, that is incredible! Upon further consideration, I'm kind of annoyed. For those of you unfamiliar with the area-YOU ARE NOT IN CHICAGO! Chicago is still almost 2 hours away. Even Starved Rock is 30 minutes away. Princeton, I'm sorry to say, is not a cultural epicenter full of attractions that draw people in and away from a city that does have those things. In the past, I've appreciated the amount of effort that goes into decorating the lobby for Christmas. Now I'm thinking that if half the effort was put into the rooms, versus the lobby, we may be getting a little closer to the cost vs quality ratio. I did notice that room had vinyl flooring and zero carpet. I liked that, as we all know how icky carpet can be. Yet the dated panther picture was way too reminiscent of items available at a local truck stop. The linens weren't extra snuggly and there is no variety in the pillow department. Unfortunately, that left me with a crick in the neck and wishing I had brought my own. Moving along, there is a pool in this inn. I saw signs that said, "The spa is closed", so I think that was referring to said pool. The free breakfast is still being served to you by employees, which makes for long lines. Waffles are no longer available on the weekend either. What? So you're telling me all the amenities of staying in the Americinn are not available and you want to charge people more? How very American of you! You may think I'm being snarky. You may think my expectations are too high. Duh! All other places that charge that kind of money have extras that make your stay lovely. Snuggly linens, firm/soft selections of pillows, warm cookies when you check-in, etc. I will no longer stay at the inn, I'd rather drive the 2.5 hours back home than drop that kind of cash. After all, I come to this area because it's where I grew up. I know the demographics of customers is probably a mixture of: extended family of residents in surrounding communities, truck drivers, and a business person here or there. All that to say, this area is full of hard-working people. They aren't about that big city life, tossing money around, and treating themselves. Why would your rooms cost so much? Okay, enough of the rant. I will put my money where my review is and no longer pay these ridiculous prices.

8 couples stayed at this hotel while attending a wedding in Rock Falls. Had we had time in our…read moreschedules we would have moved to a different hotel. This hotel was disgusting and filthy. The toilets in the bathrooms had not been cleaned and in one room did not work at all. The previous guest obviously had not been able to flush it and they left it their feces in it which was not cleaned between guests by housekeeping and the toilet was not fixed. They were moved to a different room, but that room was dirty too. In another couples room, there were no pillows & no towels and their bathroom was dirty too. In fact, all 8 rooms had dirty bathrooms. The TV's did not work and the Wifi was not functioning. The phones in the rooms did not work. The last night we were all there we were sitting in the breakfast area visiting with each other and a mouse ran out of the cupboards under where breakfast is served. Needless to say, no one ate breakfast there the next morning. This hotel was so bad, we questioned how they have a certificate of occupancy as there were many health & safety issues. Do not stay there!!!
