This is a long overdue review of a wonderful catering company. Romega catered my wedding in September 2016 and they did an incredible job. I can't tell you how many people raved about the food (and still bring it up every time I see them!) We met with them a couple of times before the wedding to have tastings of both the food and the drinks and when we weren't thrilled with everything at the tasting, Cameron worked hard to make sure the food on the day was exactly what we wanted and it definitely was. The presentation was gorgeous and the ingredients were all top notch. We had a couple of minor hiccups, there was a miscommunication somewhere down the line and they thought we wanted the bar to wrap up at 9 when the wedding was scheduled to go until 11:30. As a feature of the wedding, my husband worked with our florist to create a custom beer bar so when the hard liquor and wine ran out, we still had plenty of beer and no one seemed to mind switching from cocktails to beer. Also, some tables had more guests than others so the family style food didn't go as far for some tables as it did for others but that just tells you how delicious the food was. I think every last bite was happily eaten. We were so thrilled with our final menu, everything tasted as good as it looked and it looked as pretty as a picture. Romega Taqueria is pure deliciousness! Their staff is friendly and personable, the menu was creative, and you could tell that these guys are going to take LA by storm with their tasty taco creations. I tasted them at an event this past Saturday and took their card as I wanted to Our menu included some truly authentic chicken mole tacos that my Mexico-City native husband went wild for! He said it really took him back to childhood. When we asked the chef about the recipe, he told us about the time that they took to research all of the spices to get the flavor just right. Their perfectly crisp and juicy Carnitas tacos were dressed with a pineapple pico de gallo that was spicy and refreshing. Definitely a palate pleaser, and the perfect compliment to craft beer. I haven't even gotten to my favorite taco yet! I felt like they waited until the end to bring out a a showstopper. It was a Waygu beef cheek taco, that despite being full from the other two courses, I had to eat the whole thing because it was just so good. There is no doubt that Cameron is a talented chef. His food was delicious and his staff was friendly at the event. My issues with Romega are a couple of things: First- they say that they are a full service catering company. While I agree that they helped with flowers and food, their lack of communication was upsetting. Fine- say that I am a high maintenance customer- but that shouldn't mean that you stop communicating with your paying customer. I had asked for several menu changes, which they finally did, but when it came time for the actual event, several items were done wrong or completely omitted. They charged me for 2 appetizers that none of my guests even saw, one of which is my favorite appetizer, so that was upsetting- especially because we PAID for them and never got them. We had also asked several times that we have a glaze on one of the appetizers and Cameron didn't deliver on that. Also, since they said they were a full event planning company I was put in touch with Mark- who only emailed me once about checking in and seeing the space, and after explaining that the venue was not my home but Cameron took photos so that would have to suffice as to seeing the space, I never heard from him again. He was supposed to help me plan and make my vision come to life. Luckily I decided to hire outside vendors who HIGHLY delivered in that area. But don't call your company full service if they wont communicate and work with you. Y'all need to hire someone for communications with clients exclusively because clearly you can't handle it. Second- We had also been working on a signature cocktail and then days before the actual event, Cameron tells me that the main fruit for the sangria (which is arguably very important) wouldn't be available- their solution? not say anything and serve no fruit with the "sangria". I had also asked for the ice cubes to have flowers in them, and that never happened. This also really upset me because I had been working with an artist to make my menu and had already had it printed out- if you had only answered my emails this wouldn't have been an issue. You didn't even tell me that there wasn't going to be fruit- so it isn't even sangria in the end. Third- One of our appetizers was poke. That is a dish that needs to be served fresh or on ice. The day of the event, it was 90 degrees and they left the poke options out in the heat. One of my guests talked to Mark and he finally brought it inside. I am lucky that none of my guests got sick. You should know the safety standards for serving raw fish at an event- especially when it is hot. Fourth- We were supposed to have after party tacos. Only a few of my guests got them- Cameron decided that because there was low interest in it that he should stop making them. HELLO? Did you check with your paying couple that they wanted one? Did they get one? Nope! That part really ticked me off. My husband did approach him about that and they did knock off a little of the final budget- but I mean common! Also, Romega, for the future- you should ALWAYS have a plate set aside for your paying hostess because there is a really good chance that the host and hostess don't get much time to eat and would like to eat the food they paid for. Its one thing to skimp out on 2 appetizers, but another all together to stop 3 dishes just because you feel there is no interest. Check with your paying party. read more

Simply Spectacular Catering I dreamt of fine dining quality food at our wedding, which could have been a pipe dream. Enter Cameron, Owner / Chef of Romega Catering. Calm, gracious, patient, detail oriented. Superb communication and follow through. Some chefs charge obscene prices for tastings. Cameron did not. It felt like my fiancé and I were on a fun date. Cameron and his associate Marc ensured our needs were met. Fabulous, plentiful food. Chic, cozy environment. Cameron and Marc did a walkthrough of our venue. Marc suggested a brilliant way to fill a large, and otherwise empty, table with family photos, which became a lovely feature of our wedding. Cameron recommended Lauren Hand as our month-of coordinator. She was an absolute joy to work with. Grace under pressure. Problems handled. Impeccably dressed, genuinely warm, friendly, and skilled. Our wedding wouldn't have gone as smoothly without her. I can't say enough good things about Lauren. Cameron goes out of his way to find the coolest service items and glassware. The few things we did rent separately, superstar Lauren skillfully helped us source. Cameron also generously did an appetizer tasting closer to the wedding to help me make final selections, as some items were originally not in season. Marc was even there to finalize service details! The food at our wedding blew our guests' minds. Everything I dreamed of and more. Beautifully presented. The antithesis of bad wedding food. To this day when it's mentioned, our friends and family get faraway looks in their eyes and begin spouting superlatives that make my heart swell with pride. Cameron is an outstanding chef, sourcing high quality ingredients, preparing them skillfully, with a delicious result. Just so you don't think I am a shill, I'll regale you with a few (minor) negatives: The first is primarily positive. Cameron offered to provide mixers and garnishes for our bar service (wow!) then went way above and beyond to get an obscure berry mix for our signature cocktail. Romega worked seamlessly with our bar caterers. I'd requested enough mix to ensure the bar could serve our signature drink throughout the evening. Later in the night, the bar caterers told me they'd run out of the mixer fairly early. I had hoped to taste our signature drink, and wish all our guests had been able to as well. Second, Cameron was a bit squirrely when it came to pinning down how many staff members we'd have and what they'd be doing. Since we were paying hourly rates for each staff member, I wanted to be clear what we were getting to ensure great service with enough staff members. According to our contract Cameron would be head chef with 1 additional chef; Marc lead server with 4 additional servers; and 1 dishwasher/busboy. One of their servers' wives had a baby last minute, so there was a staff shuffle. Cameron added additional chefs, and took on a role of manager/server, but we were still 1 server short of what was promised. (Still 8 people, just 1 more in the kitchen and 1 fewer in the dining room.) Staff seemed a bit harried while serving entrees even with help from the bar staff. Our sweetheart table (mine and the groom's) didn't get one of the main entrees. I don't think this would have happened if the staff wasn't spread thin in that moment. They did however have a fabulous plate of hors d'oeuvres waiting for us at the sweetheart table when we arrived. We gave cash tips to Lauren designated for each staff member, which included a tip for the missing server. That tip was not returned, but I feel reasonably confident it went to the additional chef or was shared among the staff. I'd have liked better communication as changes were made, so I could feel confident we were getting what we paid for. With the exception of the minor bumps mentioned, I think service went very well. Finally, sadly, our leftovers vanished. I'd arranged with Cameron that leftovers be packed up so family and out of town guests could enjoy them the next day. Lauren said several containers were packed, but they disappeared. I thought maybe they were left in a family member's trunk, the refrigerators at the venue, or taken to Romega's prep kitchen, but I asked everyone and what happened remains a mystery. I'd planned to eat a full meal at our wedding, but like most brides, only managed a couple bites. Ate Domino's pizza later that night. So sad. In the end, the negatives were minor compared to the mountain of positives. Romega catering delivered beyond my expectations. I consider us exceedingly fortunate to have found Cameron Czekalla and Romega catering. He's an exceptionally talented, creative chef and an awesome human being. He made a significant, impactful contribution to our wedding. He made my dreams of spectacular food on a budget come true and I'm forever grateful. Holy Moly....where do I even start? I know good and rare talent, and I think I found a gem! Chef Cameron and his crew was heaven-sent. How creative his ideas are, and it's equally delish! From every single presentation to each flavor on our palate, it was flawless. Cameron really treats his work as art, and it's so hard to find someone so talented with such an amazing southern charm that takes so much pride in their service and product. Not only was he so diligent in working with us to create a collaborative menu, serving style, timeline, but the ingredients he used was nonetheless fresh, organic and directly from the farmers market. Cameron and his team just recently catered our over 200 guest wedding with a delicious family style dinner and they really blew us out of the water. Before the night was over guests would repeatedly come up to us to rave about the food specifically. I was recently at a craft beer tasting catered by Romega Taqueria and found their product and service to be outstanding. The guacamole was some of the best I've had, clearly Romega is discerning with the quality of the ingredients used. The carnitas tacos had the perfect amount of smoky kick complimented by pineapple salsa, and the wagyu tacos were outstanding, rich and flavorful. Cameron and the Romega team have now done three events that I was in charge of for a non-profit organization I belong to , The Pasadena Art Alliance. All three have been outstanding experiences and great successes thanks to Romega. Romega catered our 85 person wedding this June and I've got to say, guests could not stop talking about the food. It's weird calling him "Chef Cameron" because he was so personal and hands-on when it came to designing our menu. But a true chef he is. A culinary master.
