On top of that, the coaches weren't even on beat during the class--it really threw off the flow and made the session hard to follow. Overall, not a great experience.

Every class requires boxing gloves; you can either bring your own or purchase/rent them from Her's. Gloves go for $32/pair and rentals are $2 per class. Each person has a punching target (Bob) used to punch and kick during the class. The instructors are very motivating and encourage the class really well when we go through the moves. They are also aware of that everyone is coming into this class is at a different level and accommodate with modifications for the moves. There is a lot of importance given to form, footwork and using the right body parts to increase power in your punches and kicks (to prevent injuries). Each workout class is 45 mins and during that time, the instructors take you through a warm up, full workout including cardio and strength training as well as a cool down. The cardio and strength components vary depending on which workout you choose. The website describes each workout really well and also tells you what level of cardio and strength is in them so you're prepared before you start. There is a mix of cardio (jumping jacks, burpees) as well as strength training moves using weights in each workout. One part of Her's that I really enjoy is the online booking system. Their calendar view of classes is really easy to navigate through and allows you to book classes up to 1 week in advance. I'd definitely recommend Hers if you're looking for a fun switch to your regular workouts!

At first I was really intimidated, bc I could only see mostly just men grappling on the floor, but once I went upstairs to the private space where we trained, I totally relaxed. It truly is a women only class, which is so important when you're just getting involved in self-defense for the first time. Now I wish I could take the class more than just 2x a week- I love it so much!! Every time I walk out, I feel like a total badass, ready to right the world's injustices, one hammerfist at a time!! THANK YOU, JEN & ROBYN!!! CONS: The only thing I would change is for the class to be at an earlier time. It SUCKS to work all day & only be home for an hour and a half (just long enough to get cozy with the cat), before having to leave again for another couple hours... As much as I love this class, it is seriously hard to drag myself back out of the house once I finally get home. Even a 6:30pm class would be better than 7:30pm! UGH!

(This review is only for the Brazilian JiuJitsu program.) I haven't trained in a few years, but between BJJ and karate I've trained in martial arts for at least a decade. Have trained at a few different area schools and done seminars all over the state. Professor Eduardo Barboza is the real deal. Not only is he an accomplished competitor and IBJJF ranked athlete, he's also genuine, kind, encouraging, humble and professional. He's also very thorough. I love that there are multiple classes offered each day, and several different types: basics, beginner and all levels. It's a great variety, and they are adding additional classes in no gi next month (July 2021.) The facility is always super clean, students and staff are friendly. Rates are very comparable to other schools, no contracts. I'm excited to be training here and honored to be able to train with Professor Barboza.

He's an expert on martial arts and knows many different forms and techniques for everyone to learn from. Whether you want to take martial arts to be in tournaments or as a way to lose weight, he'll get you to accomplish those goals with maximum results, and isn't afraid to make you push yourself harder to go beyond them. And even if you don't know a thing about karate or kick-boxing (like how I was when I met him), Jack will be sure to get you up to speed and you'll be throwing punches and kicks like a champ. Seriously, give him a try! I can't express enough how much of a great instructor he is, so it's good to see him out of retirement and teaching again.

My son has been bullied for years and his self confidence was badly shattered. Jack was able to start building his self esteem from the first lesson. I strongly recommend him!

Even though it is a group class Raymond makes sure he spends time with each student working on his or her skillset. From day one they made us feel safe after we saw all the safety precautions in place for the safety of students. All equipment is clean and ready to use. Probably top BJJ school on my list but not top MMA school. In my opinion, the BJJ here is top notch and the instructors are fantastic. They have a game plan scheduled out for the entire year and the drills and techniques are done so that you can learn and get a great understanding and grasp of the moves. Professor Lin is a black belt BJJ artist who is easy to get along with and holds the respect of the entire class. The instructors are top notch and champions. The decor of the gym is more BJJ oriented. There are 3 big areas for classes along with heavy bags along the edges for the Muay Thai/Kick Boxing classes. There is also a small gym with free weights. Everybody who trains here are extremely respectful of you and if you are a beginner, you won't get thrown to the wolves like some of the other gyms that I've trained at. As a beginner, you will get brought along slowly until you have enough understanding to defend yourself against more advanced guys. There are beginner and more advanced classes. The new guys to this sport will be placed in the beginner classes before graduating to the more advanced classes. They are open on Saturdays which is a great thing because I like to train as often as possible. If you do end up getting hurt, there is an incident report that they file for their records. I ended up tearing the meniscus in my right knee while rolling so that pretty much ended my training here because I was sent back to Brazil for work so am training in Brazil now. Price-wise, this is a little more expensive than what I usually pay (compared to US prices because in Brazil, I pay pretty much next to nothing). I was only signed up for 3 months because I was on vacation during this time and wanted to continue training but as a monthly fee, it was a little pricier than what I had wanted to pay. However, I definitely have to say that I got more out of training here than I ended up paying for so that is a plus! Now, I have trained at Rev MMA and I have to say that the BJJ at Lin MMA is significantly better. The guys at Rev are less respectful of you and will go all out on rookies. Also, Lin MMA is cheaper!! Rev MMA is associated with Carlos Newton which is probably why they say they can jack up the prices. I have only trained at these two gyms in Toronto but can say that Lin MMA is probably the best in Toronto. Thank you Professor Lin and all of the coaches. If I am ever back in town for an extended period, I will be coming back to continue training after my knee heals up.
