**0 STARS - DO NOT COME HERE** I had to make a yelp account to share my negative experience at Ron's lock safe and alarm company. Recently moved into a new apartment in Kitchener and needed to make a copy of my house key. Simple enough, was on a walk and walked by and saw a lock and safe store, this is a service that is likely very common here. I go towards the front entrance and open the door. I kindly ask what the cost is to make a copy of a key. He asks if I have the key on me and I respond no I don't (as I was coming from a walk). He angrily yells "WELL HOW THE HELL CAN I TELL YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE KEY. WHAT A STUPID QUESTION".......... I guess that's normal behaviour and customer service here? I immediately turned around and said thanks goodbye. What an insane experience. Would not recommend. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Will happily go elsewhere for a relatively simple ask. read more

I came to Ron's 5 mins after the store closed. The owner saw me and still offered his assitance. I had been trying to replace a key to my jeep and had gone to several Canadian Tires to be told the key was out of stock and to try another location. Good thing I finally went to a professional as I would have never been able to replace the key at a CT. Ron was very knowledgeable and had the rare US model key in stock and was able to program it to my car as I waited. I'm so grateful for the help especially after hours. Do not ever come here! My first and only one star review. The worst service I've seen ever! The owner is a total a..hole. If you're a person of color, he doesn't even let you in while he's doing his business. You just wait under the snow till he finishes. He was murmuring, "It is the divorce day," the other day. I stopped at Ron's on Saturday afternoon as I needed 3 keys cut. I tried to open the door as I noticed a sign that stated it had just closed. As I was turning away disappointed to get back in my car, the door opened and a man asked "what were you looking for" as I went back and explained my situation. He took my key and said wait here I will take care of it and be back. It turned out that the gentleman was Ron and he went out of his way to assist me and was extremely pleasant. I wish I had read the reviews before engaging Ron for our re-keying. We chose him because he has been there for so long and we went there a few times to get keys cut. He charged an outrageous amount for a simple job and then tried to get us to order even more work at hugely inflated prices. Only when I became suspicious and searched the web for what the price should have been did we realize just how badly we had been taken. Stay away. read more

So first the good parts: Ron had the motorcycle key blank I needed cut where other places did not. He made me a copy in a few minutes and the key worked perfectly. He told me if the key had any issues to come back with the motorcycle and he'd fit the key to it. Pretty good. The maybe not so good parts: It wasn't cheap. $50 + tax. He only takes cash, which is a royal pain these days and is practically inexcusable. He was very curt at first and didn't allow myself or another customer into the store to wait, even though it was raining off and on. My take on this requires looking beyond the business and Ron himself. The immediate neighbourhood around has gone from bad to worse. Homeless encampments practically surround the store and sketchy looking people were numerous in the area. I can't imagine this makes for a good place to do business and probably has made Ron have to deal with a variety of negative interactions with people. So maybe this explains his less than friendly attitude. So would I recommend Ron's business if you just need a simple key copied? Absolutely not. Use one of those automatic machines at Home Depot instead. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary that you can't find anywhere, give Ron a try. At your own risk. read more

Had to replace deadbolt lock parts for our main door. Lock is older, and we had tried another locksmith, as well as 2 other shops, looking for the needed hardware, with no luck. Ron's had the parts we needed. He refitted our lock, replaced the necessary parts, and rekeyed the lock for us. How the hell does this guy stay in business I saw all the one star but since it was on my was I thought what the heck. It was a 2 pm on tuesday. It was cold and rain. There was an lighted open sign in the window. Cardboard sign saying he was in the back I should knock. Have I mentioned it was COLD and RAINING He could see me through the door. He unlocked the door. His first words " Ya what?" I told him I was looking for a replacement key for a lost trunk. He said "" ya well bring it over and I'll look" It's a freaking TRUNK I showed him a pic and I even showed a pic if the key I was looking for. Have I mentioned It's Freaking COLD and RAINING He them told me I still had to bring the trunk in he got me pissie at me. This guy is a total asshole . If I could give him -5 stars I would ! His store is locked . Sign on the door says to tap the door with a key and he'll come . He comes alright but he won't let your inside . You have to conduct your business on the the sidewalk ( I'm 76 yrs old not some low life ). I showed him a key that I wanted cut and he told me it would be $50.00 "FOR ONE KEY" ! Gave me some cock eyed story about the key is from Sweden and it is a rare blank . I knew it was bullshit so I told him to forget it . I ended up going to H & B Security and was told the blank is not rare and he cut me a new key for $4.95 !!!!! I went back to Ron's to tell him that was nothing but a crook . He could have cared less . He told me that H & B was going out of business and that they were selling of all their stock which also turned out to be total bullshit . All the negative reviews you have read are true. Exactly the behaviour I have experienced there several times myself. Rude, pushy, arrogant, overcharges/rips off, has no idea what customer service even means. I told him I have a bone to pick with him about overcharging me. His reply - So does everybody else, its the end of the month. If you do not want to get ripped off, if you want good service, PLEASE do yourself a big favour and go somewhere else. I tried to get my house key copied at three different stores before walking into Ron's Lock Shop. All three stores were able to cut the key's, but none of them actually fit or worked in the lock at home. So frustrating... to have to go back to the store, and ask for a refund of a few dollars each time. If it wasn't for the fact that I needed three copies of the key, I probably would have just let it go. When I went to Ron's Lock Shop, he took the time to explain why my key wasn't copied properly at the other stores. He showed me why my key was unique, and why I might even want to consider getting my lock re-worked to avoid future issues with my door. Then he offered a way to abate the cost of this work so I could avoid being charged twice for having to get new key's for a reworked lock. He was very thorough and clearly an expert at his trade. I was in an out of his store in under 10 minutes. I was confident that my key's would work this time, and sure enough, they did. Like a charm. It's highly unlikely I will ever shop for my lock and key related work anywhere else. Did I have to pay a few extra bucks for each key? Yes. Is it worth not having to return to the other stores for a refund, and having to explain that the key didn't work, and being asked if I was sure that I tried the key properly??? Absolutely, yes. I know how to use a key, thank you. Would I recommend the shop to my close friends, coworkers and family? Yes. read more

I received a key to my new business. Ron made the key and scratched off the identification number on it so that Home Hardware wouldn't be able to copy it. He charges more than three times what they charge. Absolutely unprofessional, cheap tactics to force people in his door by preying on people who need to make a business run. Worst service I have ever received! The man behind the counter made me feel very uncomfortable by asking me to pay for parking in his lot and speaking to me with a very demeaning attitude. Needed 3 simple keys on a Saturday at 2 pm. His sign said 'open' - got several free lectures: That he's actually closed; On the way to a big school job; Don't you really want two sets? Hurry back, might not be here; These are cheap Chinese lock keys, etc. Was $28 all in for a $6 job. read more
