Owner Donna Marie Vigilante offers a decent spread of fairly elementary classes, and she hosts out of town teachers of high quality. Not everyone will click with Vigilante or her teaching style, though, and the division of classes into levels is really rigid. Same with the studio's overall tone (see instructions to prospective students for an example [http://www.smokymountainyoga.com/logistics]). An even bigger problem is how some of the basic information on the studio site is confusing. It says Vigilante "completed her Anusara Teacher Training Program with Betsey Downing at the Garden of the Heart Yoga Center in Sarasota Florida in 2005," but she's not registered at any level according to the official Anusara site [http://www.anusara.com/index.php?option=com_contactmanager&view=teachers&layout=inspired&Itemid=129#list]. If you know yoga, you know Anusuara can be really cool. Maybe someday this studio will be too.

I've only gone to the 6 am classes on Mondays and Wednesdays so far and I'm really enjoying it. Micole teaches these classes and I like her style. She's very nice, understanding and offers ways to modify poses to make them easier or more challenging. There have only been 3-5 other people in class at that time, but I'd say the experience level varies which is nice. I also like that there are no mirrors in the studio. I'm less worried about how I look in a pose or how other people look in it, and I'm more focused on how I feel. The studio is one large room with a sitting area in the front by the desk and cubbies and a bathroom in the back. There are plenty of mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and straps available for use. I'm looking forward to continuing my practice here!

I have lived around the country and had memberships in all areas and appreciate the way that the studio is managed and what they offer in comparison. Very calm energy here, no judgment, you feel comfortable from your very first class. Patty (the owner) even offers multiple therapeutic classes every week (rare in Knoxville!), and a variety of hand picked instructors offer every other type of yoga from beginners to gentle to power to yin. Luckily the staff was friendly and helpful with getting me set up with a (comfy Petzel!) rental harness and shoes. Check in and cash out was quick & easy. With the auto belay system for several routes of varying difficulty (I was able to do several within my skill range - 5.6 - 5.8) and attempt a couple of 5.9s) you could easily spend a few hours here even solo. I just had an hour but mission accomplished: several climbs fully completed, a couple attempted, and a good workout to break up hours of work travel. The gym was clean, the climbs were interesting, and the helpful staff was appreciated. Will definitely visit while traveling through again!
