I've been coming to this salon for years and it's always a great experience. We followed Malisa when she joined the crew, but all of the stylists are funny and sweet and talented. Malisa does the best color in the known universe, I swear... we are never disappointed! I also really enjoy the vibe of the salon; you can tell everyone really enjoys working together, and they support each other like family. Prices are great, too. Roots is very conveniently located for those of us on the Charlestown edge of Jeffersonville. The salon is very unassuming in a strip mall. The services are VERY reasonably priced and they were able to see my daughter same day. For just $12 she got the best cut she's had in ages! Clarissa was totally great with her! If I could give less than one star I would! I've been growing my hair out from a very short pixie since December with a goal of a one length short bob. Prior to my appointment with Chloe on 8/21 I was 98% there - just had the last short layer that was at a length to cut the rest to. Anyone who has grown their hair out before knows what a difficult process and how frustrating it can be. When I left my appointment Saturday I knew my hair wasn't right but thought was just styled differently. When I got home and really looked at it I was horrified\devastated. I had a layer of hair on the top of my head that was about 3 inches long! It wouldn't blend in with the rest of my hair no matter what I did. I wear my hair with a side part so when I styled it one side looked fantastic- all one length shot bob like I wanted but the other side looked like it had been chewed off half way down the side of my head. Worse than the cut itself was how I have been treated by Chloe and the salon! No understanding about how I was feeling- just an excuse and that I had unrealistic expectations. I was dismissed- after numerous attempts to speak to someone about getting it fixed. The final resolution was for Chloe to tell me to go to somewhere else to get my hair fixed. So after 8 months it back to a short cut again to fix it. Thanks so much Chloe! If you want a good haircut and to be treated decent- stay away from Roots Salon. read more

I hate doing this, but I wish someone would have written something before. Chloe did my hair last night and I am not at all happy with how it turned out. I am getting ready to travel to to Costa Rica in two weeks and I wanted my hair to be lighter and I wanted to get rid of some of the brassy-ness. I have super curly hair and I told her this in advanced and asked if she had any experience working with textured hair because no one on her instagram had textured hair. I sent her pictures of what I wanted and what my hair looked like before and she said she could totally do that. She kept pushing for a root shadow and told me that was what the girl had in the picture and I just said no. I wanted my hair to grow out and everything look natural and I knew no matter how much we tried to match a color to my roots it would not transition right. And then she told me I need a cut. I rarely let anyone cut my hair, I understand that I did need a cut and that some of my ends or dead but I would have preferred someone that had experience cutting curly hair would have cut it. She kept pushing and I told her that I had been trying to grow my hair out and she said it would never grow out if I didn't cut it and I completely agree with that I just did not want to do it at that time especially with a hair dresser that had never done my hair before. Any textured hair stylist knows that you do not cut curl hair why it is wet and I specifically asked her to cut it dry and she said she would but she would have to straighten it so that she could get a nice cut--which completely defeats the purpose of cutting it dry. You cut curly hair dry so that you know how the curls will look when it is natural. But I did not say anything about cutting it straightened because I didn't want to be difficult and that was a mistake on my part. She then went on to straighten my hair so that she could apply the color, which killed me because I hadn't straightened my hair in years. The hair dresser next to us was apply extensions to a girl and they were all fairly busy and a guy walked in asking for a quick cut and they said they didn't have enough staff or time and the guy was cool with it and left. The hair dresser and the client next us went on to say that "this ain't Supercuts, you just can't walk in" and laugh about the guy, but there is a sign outside of your store that says you walking are welcome. So if you plan to walk-in I wouldn't recommend it. Long story short she applied toner to my hair and washed me out and asked me how I wanted to style it and I told her to use a diffuser. And again this woman said that one of her friends has curly hair and she does her hair all of the time which would make me think that she owns a diffuser but she had to borrow one of the other's. She then said that every time she diffuses hair it ends up really frizzy--and I just knew that going there was a mistake. After she finished, she told me not to be alarmed and that my hair was purple and that it was just the toner she used. And I was like okay cool I get that she had to use a heavy toner to get rid of the brassy ness. I looked in the mirror and my hair was grey and purple and I was humiliated. She told me that after a couple washes it will look super bright. So I went in wanting lighter hair and left with grey. I couldn't bring myself to go to school this morning because it looks so terrible. It's a mixture of brass and silver and grey. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE TEXTURED HAIR. She also attended prosser and I wish that would have been advertised because most of my experience with prosser cosmologist never works out. I washed my hair as soon as I got home last night, even though I wasn't supposed to, but I had to get what ever grey toner she used in my hair out. Maybe after a couple days it will look better. read more

Very rude and unsanitary. Clarissa was very rude. A stylist (Chloe I believe) was very disruptive and rude as well. My hair is completely ruined and is not the color I had asked for. I wanted highlights and my hair is now completely yellow. read more

Horrible and very unprofessional. I was told when I got my hair colored that if I wanted more blonde towards the front, which is what I wanted, that she would fix it. Once I had worn my hair up I realized I still had about a 1/4 inch root right in the front which looked like it had been months since it was colored and still had grey on one side. When I tried to get it fixed I kept being told she was booked up and I'd have to wait till the next week, this went on for several weeks with absolutely no desire to help out a paying customer that was not satisfied. I was told I was asking for special treatment because I asked if I could be worked in somewhere as I work 12 hour night shifts and the only days I was being offered she knew I worked. also she told me she was off Thursdays so couldn't do it this week, after I offered to come in Thurs, Friday, or Saturday. Hair colored on March 7th, I finally resorted to calling the owner on March 21st and she did make me an appointment for Friday the 24th with the same stylist to fix it, however after I considered it, I decided I didn't want her to fix it after all the drama from me trying to get it done and tried to call the owner the next day to cancel, but the phone at the salon was out. so the following day which was Thursday the 23rd and the same stylist that was supposed to be off on Thursdays answered the phone , I told her I was cancelling my appointment and at this point I just wanted a refund. she said OK. the next day on Friday the 24th at 3pm I get a text from her stating if I want a refund I had to be there by 5pm and normally they don't offer a refund after 7 days and I didn't give them 24 hour notice on cancelling my appointment. ridiculous. I let her know I wasn't satisfied within 2 days and couldn't cancel before 24 hours with the phone out. I will never set foot in this salon again. Guess that's why they call it Roots salon because you're left with your roots. read more
