I never knew that the Anacostia Playhouse existed but then again, I haven't been going to many…read moreperformances. The playhouse is right off Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. On the same side as and a block behind Turning Natural. I had never been back there and if it wasn't for this outing, I doubt I would have ventured here. The playhouse is located in a renovated warehouse space. Immediately, I could see that they were making good use of a sturdy, old building of industry. Inside the actual theater, I loved the intimate feel of it. The stage, in the center allows for you to be seated close to the performers without being too close. I know that the performers could speak better on that than me but that's what I felt as a witness. "The Very Last Days of the First Colored Circus" by Steven Butler was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. For my next visit I am really looking forward to Clayton LeBeouf's "Record Store 24". Celebrating the Arts in Anacostia in 2018.

Several nights ago, Tuesday Dec 11th, I went to see this performance at the National theatre to satisfy my pleasure addiction of theater performance specifically for a great Broadway musicals like Spamalot! As a 3 Winner of Tony Awards on year 2005, this musicals is definitely worth to see and excellent choice for a stress relieves! Hilarious! This performance that full of funny British anecdotes and rich of their beautiful accents, makes the audience laughing all the way! Razzle dazzle! The dances, the songs, the humor, the act, the colorful rainbow and all that glitter definitely thrilled the audience with excitement and makes this whole show is so fascinating to see! And those sparkle leaves that flowing down to the audience as their fabulous way to say their farewell to end the show! Splendid!

Getting an invite from Oliver J. to attend a production at Fort Fringe on the topic of Burning Man…read morewas a perfect date opportunity for my boyfriend and I. We both have a bit of crazy hippie in us, so I had no doubts that we'd be entertained. After the line up of outlandish and titillating monologues of authentic, first hand, Burning Man stories, we were both left fascinated, mildly frightened, and so very curious as to what our own Burning Man monologues would be. This show was my first experience at Fort Fringe. I've got to say that as much as I was excited by the slightly shady, underground, hipster vibe emanating from this place, I was also a bit unsettled. This was mostly due to the dimly lit streets outside of it with little packs of questionable people scattered about. With another person walking with me, I felt somewhat safe, but had I been alone, I probably would have been very nervous. Especially when I was told at the check in, that I had to walk around the outside of the building to enter in the back to have access to the restrooms. Lets say, I would have just held it had I not had someone to walk with me. Outside of the outside of Fort Fringe, the little theater is awesome; very fun, laid back, and quirky. If invited to another show, I'd definitely return. I'll just make sure to bring a budding if it's a late night showing.

My experiences have been good. It highlights the young vibrant and creative energy in the city. I thoroughly recommend seeing a show. They are pretty inexpensive - my show was $17 plus a pin, which ranges between $5-7. The volunteers and employees are friendly and seem hardworking! The bar at Fort Fringe is great!

I always knew that I loved to dance, to move my feet with a passion, and let the music invigorate…read moreme. But I never really thought about watching other people do it, and certainly not professionally. Then about four years ago the girl I was dating at the time got me hooked on the show So You Think You Can Dance, which happened to be on its fourth season. From then on my eyes were opened to a whole new art form, one that I've grown increasingly fond of ever since. DC unfortunately has a shortage of outlets for taking in great dance performances, but once a year some of the best artists from the area gather at VelocityDC to showcase their talents at an incredibly reasonable price of $18 per attendee. This was my second year attending and the program was almost entirely different than when I came two years ago. While the acts vary on each of the nights that it's going on, The Washington Ballet Studio Company is almost always the "feature" performance, unless you come on the last day when they showcase a few other companies, but this year's routines seemed a bit shorter than before...unfortunate since they really are spectacular, but it allowed some additional time for more acts. The previous show I attended they did five dance routines all set to familiar Beck songs, a curious choice, but one which actually worked quite well. This year was a bit of a contrast, using three great blues songs as the backdrop for a bit more serious piece. Where else in DC can you see contemporary ballet squeezed in between tap dance, Flamenco, Bharatanrityam (the real reason I chose this performance, since Suzy has experience with several Bhangra dance styles), and African jazz, along with half a dozen other styles? If it exists in another place I've yet to find it. Even during the intermission there was a staged-impromptu break dance battle out in the mezzanine. Everyone involved in the production of VelocityDC truly loves what they do and it shows. Add to the event that it's held in the Shakespeare Theatre Company's relatively new performing stage at the beautiful Sidney Harmon Hall and you've got a value that is difficult to surpass in this city for entertainment. We even got an unexpected treat during our recent attendance in the form of a surprise proposal by one of the audience members, and after she said yes they were showered with a standing ovation from the crowd and weeping eyes all around. This is the kind of magic this event inspires.

I stood for two hours in high heels and I did not mind one bit…read more Story District (which as of three days ago was known around the city as Speakeasy DC) resurrects the lost art of story telling and brings it to the masses. I came in expecting to be entertained and giddy, but left with a conflict of emotions. The stories told had me on a roller coaster of emotions that was 10x better than any Kardashian / Scandal / True Blood binge watching weekend I could ever go on. I was really impressed by the wide range of performers who came from all ages, ethnicity, sexual and gender orientations, bodies, health -- everything. Their short stories celebrated their triumphs and hardships and also was a mental reminder that everybody is not as they appear. For those who are obsessed with Humans of NY -- you'll love Story District. Shows are every second Tuesday of the month and tickets were $16 per person. Seating is limited so I recommend coming an hour early if you would like some tush cushion. I highly recommend attending this show if you are looking to have some great post dinner conversation with someone you are looking to know better....or even someone you've known for years. Five Stars all around. Now who's going to the next show with me?!??!?!

If you are…read morea fan of the Moth Radio Hour, StoryCorps, or any other story-based performance venue, you will love StoryDistrict. The best part about StoryDistrict is that anyone can submit a story to tell. Yes, they do have classes that you can take to help hone your story-telling craft, but anyone can submit stories based on the themes that change bi-monthly/monthly. The audience is always very supportive of everyone who gets on-stage and while not every story is moving, funny, or eccentric, they each have their own relatable quality to them. If you haven't checked it out, you really are missing something special in the DC area.

My only complaint is that when casting their productions, they mainly pick kids that they know well, and after seeing two productions with almost the same cast, it can be a little boring. Other than that, they are a great and friendly company with awesome instructors.
