We sat outside in the beautiful Hofgarten courtyard, surrounded by historic architecture, candlelight, and a lively but relaxed atmosphere. As evening set in and the lights came on, the setting was absolutely charming and felt authentically Swiss.
For dinner, we ordered two different dishes. The Zanderfilet (pike-perch) was served over ratatouille with olive oil and oregano, along with potatoes. The fish was beautifully prepared--tender, flavorful and light--and the vegetables complemented it perfectly.
We also ordered the Wiener Schnitzel made with regional veal, accompanied by fresh vegetables and rösti. The schnitzel was huge, wonderfully crisp on the outside and tender inside. It was exactly the kind of traditional dish we wanted to experience while visiting Switzerland, and the rösti was a great addition.
The portions were generous, the food was excellent, and the historic courtyard atmosphere made the evening especially memorable. Restaurant Löwenzorn was a perfect choice for our final night in Switzerland and one of the meals we'll remember from our trip.
Highly recommended if you're visiting Basel and want good food in a beautiful, traditional setting. We would definitely return.
