It was like walking into some pinterest version of my dream home. Giftwares for the whimsical, light and airy, modern-bohemian-hipster person in your life (or yourself), this store had so much that I would want, including the serving bowl size versions of the dish set I already own. Below, a taste: *door transformed into mail sorting artwork *hooks and drawer pulls, a plenty *bright - but not overly modern bright - coloured throw pillows *kitchen gadgets *glass decanters for the mid century fiends *table lamp with a bird on a branch as the stand *table linens in subdued patterns Downside - finding out it's mostly made in China stuff. But, then again, it also is reasonably priced, which makes it a better version of Anthropologie in my books.

I was denied a refund on a Washer/Dryer Riser because it was considered to be an unsealed package, even though their own employee cut the two packing straps. The box was not glued or taped, but simply held closed with the two white straps. The return policy does not apply in this case. When I picked up the item, it was secured with two white packing straps. The Brick employee cut these straps to allow me to verify the color. Although the box was never taped or sealed, it was considered an open package when I attempted to return it, and my refund request was denied. I find this policy outrageous, especially since the employee did not mention the return policy. To make things worse the supervisor Dev sat in his office literally 50 feet from me and the returns desk, refused to talk to me stating he was busy eating his lunch. Still waiting for some type of resolution to this matter. Their Return Policy If your product is still in its original sealed packaging, with the exception of As-Is products, special orders (MTO), or sleep accessories, we will return it for a full reselection credit or refund within 7 days of the original delivery or pickup. Once the product packaging has been removed or the product is in an open condition, with exceptions for mattresses/boxsprings and home décor accessories, we cannot offer refunds or reselections. Although it has up-scaled a great deal, going from an average neighborhood hardware, to upscale specialty paint/hardware/housewares and gifts it still has the same neighborhood feel and even some of the same staff. Wilder, who works behind the paint counter in the basement, where most of the "serious" hardware is located, has been there ever since I can remember, and always provides one of the best customer service experiences available. He knows his stuff, and is always happy to help. Upstairs, where the gifts and housewares are found, is home to what I can only describe as *the* best selection of gifts for hard to shop for hipsters and grandparents ever... It has to be seen to be believed. If your looking for some unique gifts, specialty hardware, or are just tired of the so-so service at other big box hardwares, try Hogg out...

Anyway it seems Montreal doesn't have a lot of places that sells that but saw online that Hogg hardware does since it's part of the Home Hardware group. Went in, ordered it, got a call 2 days later to pick and it wasn't expensive at all. The guys are also really nice but while I was waiting around I saw a ton of cool stuff for the home including soy candles, funky door handles and coat hooks, and stuff you'll never see at Home Depot. I used to buy soy candles at Winners (since soy doesn't produce soot and burns cleanly), but increasingly they don't carry them anymore and instead have "hand-poured" candles ( what the hell is that supposed to mean if it doesn't change the fact that it produces soot?) but now at least I can get some here at a reasonable price. There's a reason why it's located in Westmount and also Nun's Island, it's definitely more bourgeoisie and less blue-collar.
