We are so lucky to be apart of the RCNS family. Our daughter attended two daycares prior to starting here and this has been by far our favorite program. We have really enjoyed meeting the other families and get together regularly outside of school. Michelle, June and Mimi are all such wonderful teachers. Our daughter has already learned so much from them and even asks to go to school each morning. We really appreciate the daily communication from they provide and feel more than comfortable with them caring for our daughter. I did a petting zoo event here today and I have to say I could not believe how well-mannered and well-behaved the kids were! This little nursery school is very clean while still being incredibly fun and interactive with plenty of outside play. Miss Michelle and Miss June are both GREAT with the kids- I was even taking mental notes on how to parent me own future children! You can tell that they keep the kids active, involved, and encourage creativity. The amount of parent communication and involvement in the school is also something that just warms my heart. I absolutely cannot wait to be a part of Miss Michelle's upcoming Wilderness Cubs nature learning program!! read more

My son had a great time at Ross Cottage. He grew so much socially and went from speaking few words to reasoning with me using full sentences. He would come home and "teach" us manners, not talk when mouth full, always say thank you and please, be appreciative etc. We are delighted to see his growth and gave much thanks to the teachers at Ross Cottage. read more

Our experience at RCNS has been nothing short of transformative for our child. From a reserved little one, my child has blossomed into a social butterfly, always eager to share stories from school. Notably, we've seen a significant improvement in manners; "Miss June always tells us to be kind," is a frequent echo in our home, and the ever-practical advice from Miss Michelle, "Always eat over your plate," has saved our carpet. Every day our child comes home, intrigued, discussing letters and numbers with a newfound curiosity. It's heartwarming to see such enthusiasm towards learning. The home like setting is the perfect extension of our family, providing comfort and familiarity. The small setting allows the kids to really bond and make lifelong friendships. My family adores the whole program at Ross Cottage Nursery School. My son talks about the teachers and his friends on a daily base. He truly adores everyone and his eyes light up talking about school. The days when he doesn't have school he asks to go. Our refrigerator is decorated with his artwork which he brings home each and every school day. He also comes home with plenty of bark/sand in his shoes from playing outside. When it comes to my cooking he is picky, but he loves the food prepared at school. I'm beginning to transition my son from naps because he goes to bed too late with them, but after school he needs quite time because he is wiped out. On many occasions he has fallen asleep in the car after school. Although my sons communication isn't perfect, I know he is one very happy kid. And I'm very happy with his development. From a parent perspective I am extremely happy with Ross Cottage. There is 100% open communication and the door is always open. My son picked up a bad habit from home (swearing) and I was able to ask Michelle about how to handle. She is a great resource and wants to help a parent in need. I appreciate being able to share good things with her, but it's wonderful to have open communication when I have a first time parent question and I need help/guidance. I'm so happy this program exists and fortunately all my children can attend this special gem. read more

I hesitated to write a review but felt it important to provide a balanced experience with RCNS. If the director likes the parents and they follow her often arbitrary/changing rules, then it is a good match. If you ask for clarification or logic behind decisions, then you are categorized as disrespectful. In our profession, we ask and routinely get asked questions, thus we got placed in the "disrespectful" category. We were told our sweet daughter was no longer welcome at the school. At 3, she did not know why she could not play with her friends at the school. For our daughter, we agreed to refrain from further questioning, and told the owner our daughter missed her friends. She was not moved and appeared indifferent to what our daughter felt. I refrained from overly critical or hyperbolic comments but felt it necessary to provide our experience at RCNS. read more

Ross Cottage is a magical nursery school. We have been so fortunate to send our son here since he was 19 months. Under the care of Michelle and her competent and loving team our son has absolutely flourished. He is always excited to go to school and so eager to share his day's adventures when he is picked up. The school cultivates creativity in the children with daily art activities and outdoor playtime under the redwood trees. We could not be happier with our experience at Ross Cottage and are devastated that it is coming to an end. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Michelle and Ingrid. My daughter has been attending since she was 19 months and always has the most wonderful days. When I pick my daughter up, she is always calm, happy and at ease. She has learned so much in just a few short months and comes home with new words almost daily. I really don't know what I would do without them as I have never experienced a more loving place for my child. Ross Cottage Nursery School is a dream for a young child. My daughter had never attended school or day care before starting at RCNS and immediately fell in love with the school and the teachers. Michelle, the director, puts her heart and soul into the program and my daughter has grown more confident, made wonderful friends and enjoys the learning process from the special environment Michelle nurtures. My wife and I were introduced to Ross Cottage through a neighbor and we could not be more pleased with our experience one the last two years. Michelle and her staff are not only nurturing and caring but they promote an environment of learning and curiosity that has truly helped mold our daughter into a wonderful little girl. We love Ross Cottage! Our son started going here at age 2 and has been there for the past year. The space is magical and truly feels like a cottage. It is nestled amongst the redwood trees and has a nature-like feeling outside, with a great swing set, cars to ride, sand box, and more. It also has a spacious indoor play room full with every toy and activity you can think of. Michelle and Kerri are always loving and kind, yet set clear guidelines so the kids can learn what's right and wrong. They welcome the kids with open arms and a smile every day. They teach them songs, read to them, do arts and crafts, and bring in outside performers to keep things fun. It's not easy to leave your child but this place is a great second home and I always felt like our son was in the best possible care. Can't say enough things about this special place! read more

Ross Cottage is a lovely gem of a nursery school, in a cosy private home just off Shady Lane. Our daughter has loved it since day 1, when she dashed in without a backward glance. The teachers, Michelle and Kerri, are experienced,loving and fun, but firm, and our daughter constantly comes home with new songs, rhymes and other interesting things to teach us. There is a great teacher-to-student ratio, so we always know the kids will get the individual attention they need at this young age. There is a wonderful outdoor play area (with a view of a creek - great for lessons about ducks!) so the kids spend a lot of time in the fresh air. An emphasis on music, arts and learning makes Ross Cottage a fun and educational environment. Our daughter has made some close friends and looks forward to going to school every day. We feel lucky to have found Ross Cottage and highly recommend it! read more

As far as nursery schools are concerned, Ross Cottage is top notch. This isn't your average day care center. Michelle, the director, runs a tight ship, and RCNS functions as a preschool/kindergarden preparatory school. Our daughter is incredibly bright and expressive and she has flourished at RCNS, beyond our expectations. We enrolled her at 18 months old, and as new parents we had our reservations. Needless to say, Michelle and her team have eased any original concerns we had. Our daughter is two now, and happy, thriving, and learning all the time. Financially, it would be less expensive for us to have a nanny 100% of the time, rather than send our daughter to RCNS, and have a nanny part time. For us though, it is more than worth the investment. Our daughter continues to learn valuable social skills within a safe, clean, and loving environment. When the time comes for her to transition to preschool, we know she will be well prepared! We feel so grateful to have found RCNS. read more

Wow. Where do I even begin?!? My daughter was 20 months when she started at RCNS, and she has been blissfully happy since day one. She readily hops out of the car at drop off and is returned to me so well adjusted, chatty, and simply happy as a lark! From her vocabulary and chattiness, to her independence, alphabet, singing, etc, my little girl is now 2 years and 4 months and has learned more than I could ever have imagined by this point in time. There is no home more loving, welcoming, or nurturing than Ross Cottage Nursery School. We will be sad to say good bye when the time comes, and my lil lady will be even more so than her Mama. This school is just the best! After hearing so many wonderful things about this program, I enrolled my 2 year old and have had nothing short of an amazing experience. Michelle and her staff are fabulous. They worked so well with me during her transition from home to school, i was just so appreciative and impressed with their patience and understanding. The cottage is serene and my daughter is so comfortable there. Every time i walk into the classroom it is extremely clean and very organized. Each day I pick my daughter up from school, her diaper is always brand new/fresh! We have noticed such a change in her academically as well. She talks so much more since starting the program, knows her numbers and sings songs she says she learned at school...and the list goes on. She absolutely loves going to school and even asks for her best friend (her teacher) Michelle "Mimi" on pretty much a daily basis. We noticed our daughters behavior also changed for the better! She was pretty tough at home, constantly challenging us and was not a good listener. She not only has become a fabulous listener (i mean, good for a 2 year old!), she now is the best at sharing things within her group of friends outside of school. She also took an interest in potty training and is currently potty trained at 2.5 years old. We have recommended this school to tons of friends.
