It held a general store downstairs and the family lived upstairs. In the northeast corner of the store you can see a small room that used to be an icebox. Town residents would meet on the front porch. In the intervening years the building was a western store, feed store, and a furniture store. In 1993 it became an antique store. Current owner Cathy Wells has owned the business since 1998. The Mercantile is 3,200 sq. ft. and has more than sixty vendors selling countless items over two floors. Furniture, bric-a-brac, dolls, collectibles, jewelry, clothes, china, they have it all. Some of my favorite items were a Lilly Pulitzer dress, glass door knobs, and tiny blue bottles for a dollar. It would take awhile to see everything they have. In true old Florida fashion there is no air conditioning. Buildings built back in the day were designed to move air and they have fans everywhere so the heat wasn't unbearable. The young lady running the store was a sweetheart. I loved the mercantile and all the stuff they sell.

Or work with the owner and head designer Andrea to put together the perfect custom piece. And this shop offers design services without crazy high design firm fees! I wish I found this shop before spending $8k in design fees alone for a single room at a "full service design firm. And ask about their in home consultations for larger projects. The prices on the stuff I did check out were on the high side. They had toys, drugstore items, books, clothing, home goods, and a little bit of everything. The had several Day of Dead decorations and a cute snacklebox but those items didn't have prices. There is an adjacent antique store, Barn Door Antiques. I don't know if it is the same business or two separate businesses? I think they also buy gold? There is a lot going on here. In any case I didn't go over to the antique store. Amelia's Thriftique was a miss for me today but if you are feeling adventurous you may want to check them out.

The sidewalk is beautifully decorated with all of their great outdoor decor. You can tell you are in for a treat before you even walk in the door. I was able to chat a bit with one of the owners, Diana. Madison purchases items from estate sales and then they fix up some of the items for resale. For instance they will recover chair cushions and repaint furniture. They can also restore your furniture. There are so many one of a kind items here. Jewelry, clothing, furniture, and decorative items. The boutique is crammed with so many things but all are artfully arranged. I wanted everything! The emphasis is on coastal decor in keeping with Ft. Pierce's location on the water but they also have an Oriental and African section as well. If you see something you fall in love with, its affordable. If you love flamingos like I do they have got you covered with many decorating pieces. One of of my favorite items was a parrot floor lamp. They also have a wonderful selection of Highwaymen paintings which are very popular but not in my budget. The Highwaymen were a group of artists around the Fort Pierce area who quickly created Florida folk art featuring landscapes from oil paints on Uppson board used as roof sheeting. From 1950-1980 they would anonymously sell the art out of the trunks of their cars on A1A and US 1 from Daytona to Miami. They are a great investment as many of the Highwaymen are getting up there in years. I ended up buying several items. They worked with me on the prices up to 20 percent off. I ended up going home with a Grecian Goddess bust who is now surveying my living room from the top of the dining room china cabinet, a photograph of a Roseate Spoonbill that was signed and number by a photographer from Siesta Key, a framed tapestry of Henry Flagler's estate Whitehall in Palm Beach, and a two tiered glass serving dish. I love all of my treasures. Inventory changes on a daily basis. One important thing to note is that items marked with a D belong to Diana and she only takes cash or a check for her things All other items in the store can be purchased with a credit card. There was so much to see here that you can easily spend an afternoon dreaming and planning. With an emphasis on tropical and beach decor the wide selection is sure to delight anyone who loves vintage and Florida.

Tomorrow we will send the boys over between 11am-2pm to pick it up... So when the two knuckleheads show up, one walks around and says "No" we wont take it. We didn't see this and that, etc. I clearly showed everything (little dings and such) in the photos. Thanks for wasting three hours of my life because you people didn't do your due diligence.

0 stars all across the board. every store memeber has called me because of 2 missed payments…read more morning day and night, I finally tell them I will make a payment when I can and I continuously got more calls because they don't communicate with one another so I decided that I would let them pick the couch up for Friday , next day (weds morning at 4am) 340.00 charged to my card. mind you I was 2 payments behind. which should have been 88 x 2 + two $5 late fees. how tf is that 340???????? ... the amounts are usually $88 or $90 when they charge my card now that I want them to pick the couch up the auto pay charge is 340?! The very next day? Obviously they changed the auto pay amount to be taken ????? !!!!! this is ridiculous. Please don't shop here. They have no structure. The only thin they can do well is HARASS PEOPLE AND NOT COMMUNICATE WITHIN THEIR COMPANY.

But it is a small shop right on US1 so I don't think there is any harm in stopping in for a quick browse or an inexpensive gift. Maybe the stuff may be more up your alley than mine! There is clothes but nothing for my style personally, there is inexpensive jewelry, coral and shells, kids stuff, beachy knick knacks and signs. Things of that nature. It's not a place for surfboards or things to support that sport. It's more of a souvenir shop type vibe.
