The first time I went was with Audubon for a walk and saw red headed woodpeckers and others. The downside and why it gets minus one star- the ease of flooding in this area means some trails may not be accessible after a heavy rain. Also during warmer months the mosquitoes are insufferable even with bug spray. But there are trails for dogs, bikers and walkers.

I think there's another entrance elsewhere. I understand that the park gets quite crowded during peak times so come first thing in the morning and you'll have the bonus of a smooth lake like a sheet of glass. Definitely away from noise and civilization, this park is only noisy from the nearby school. It is quiet and secluded and there is a network of both paved and natural trails. The trails follow and cross Crabtree Creek. At the entrance, there is a handicapped accessible observation deck with picnic tables. I did not spot any other active features and there did not seem to be a restroom. The park is well-maintained and full of wonderful spots to see nature. Parking was plentiful, with a decent sized lot. They have two play structures (a tot lot for little kids and a kids lot for bigger kids), a sand pit, and swings. Their water fountain also has a bottle refill station built in, which was a nice touch. I also took a walk through the woods behind the playground on the Laurel Loop Trail, a quick 0.2 mile loop that takes less than 10 minutes and leads to a nice view of the lake. Great spot!

Not massive but fair sized park facility including playground, shelter, playing and ball fields, etc. with paved walking/running path to use that connects to the adjacent Hatcher Creek Greenway. The Deets: During COVID-19 time, I've had a chance to walk over to Morrisville Community Park a couple of times to enjoy some outside time. It is easy to access by car with a parking lot off Morrisville Parkway, or you can walk there as I have using Hatcher Creek Greenway path access. From reading others' descriptions of the park, I expected it to be small (if you just considered the area around the playground) but I would say for Morrisville it's got a good bit of land to enjoy...I took plenty of pics of the areas I encountered). There is a children's playground area, and to the side of it appears to be a little outside fitness area to use. To the other side of the playground, a nice shelter area is available with adjacent bathroom facilities. I noticed a sign posted next to them stating that "this facility is cleaned and sanitized daily for your safety" which is good to know, especially now. When you past the shelter, there is a pretty large open playing field (?pickup games of football/soccer, etc.,?) and beyond that are ball fields. The field 1 is a 301 ft fence ball field and field 2 has a 200 ft fence distance, with both next to a nice facilities building. In between the open playing field and fields 1 & 2, there is a smaller ball field (field 3) that appears to be under repairs at the time of this writing. Park users can enjoy a nice paved walkway around all of the park area, and it connects up with the Hatcher Creek Greenway on both sides of the park. It makes for a nice loop in itself for a good walk or to go on further to the greenway for more exercise. In all, As with the greenway, I find Morrisville Community Park a great resource that the town of Morrisville provides to the public for use, especially when you need your exercise to be in an outside setting. I am a fan!

Indian Trail park is a teeny little park in Old West Durham. However, despite its small size, it…read morepacks a decent amount of charm. The main reason I've passed through this park (don't blink because you may miss it) is that the West Ellerbee Creek trail runs into it, and I've run on that trail a time or two. In fact, it seems as though the trail brings a lot of runners, walkers, and dog walkers into this park. Aside from the running, I've also had a couple early evening picnics here as there's a sizable field that lends itself to picnicking (as well as football, soccer, frisbee, kite flying...you get the idea). Indian Trail also features a small playground, a handful of benches, and some outdoor exercise stations. So if you're looking to compete in an international monkey bars competition, Indian Trail park may serve as solid training grounds. Yup, it's not the biggest park in the world, but it's clean, well-maintained, and does what it does well!
