Stunning array of produce, all pristine with little need to pick thru any of the many categories from heirloom tomatoes to beets to garlic, onions, jalapeños. Who knew? I have been seeking heirloom tomatoes to satiate my appetite for summer tomato sandwiches, tomatoes with fresh mozzarella and basil, and Israeli salad. Disappointed with the quality at regular markets and the ridiculous prices at other North Shore farm stands. Lisa E. asked Erica Marcus for her advice, she asked where we live, and she recommended Rottkamp's. I looked on Yelp and noticed someone posted beautiful specimens yesterday. We called and they said " yeah, we still have heirlooms". Took the Sunday car to the farm and rejoiced I'm not only the abundance of tomatoes but the local fresh bounty of corn, root vegetables, and fresh sprightly greens. Homegrown vegetables delicious. Drove my dad around and spotted the farm off Glen Cove Road. I was taking back all the vegetables .. The leaves of the salad greens were green from the root to the top.! Beautiful rich color and packed with nutrients. Thank you Yelplandia friend Lisa for introducing me to this hidden gem. Who knew that a 50 acre farm that sold fresh vegetables was located in Glen Head. The farm is quaint with a very welcoming friendly staff. I found the cherry tomatoes and corn to be my favorite choices for now, but I surely intend to return in the near future. read more

Save yourself from the people they have hired to work here. Their employee decided it was a good idea to start hosing down the produce inside without warning while a ton of people were standing next to it, including my 5 month old son in his stroller. Thank God I acted fast to shield my son so he didn't get wet but she did a great job of soaking me and a bunch of other people with the hose. She continued to do this for a good 2-3 minutes with complete disregard for all of us who were now hiding in the corner away from her and her hose. She thought it was absolutely hilarious as did the other employees who told her she did a great job. I felt like I was in another dimension. My stroller got soaked then covered in dirt and gravel which in turn left the inside of my car filthy. This wasted venture ended up costing me my clean clothes and a $40 trip to the car wash. I know times are rough and it's hard to find good workers right now but how several employees could think hosing down an unknowing crowd that included an infant was smart is beyond me. I'll make sure everyone I know saves themselves the frustration of stepping foot on this farm. read more

This place is north of Northern Blvd and is a few miles up from Youngs farm. Good to try both in the same day. An actual farm, bigger than Youngs, and no bakery etc. They have rows of items from the farm around the stand.. Greens, vegetables and flowers. They grow their own tomatoes but bring some in for customers when theirs are not yet ripe. It's nice to have this place - the last big farm in Nassau County. Dusty road to the stand and serious. None of the fancy pies of Youngs in Brookville, or fancy oversized blooms of Meyers in Woodbury. But they have far more customers than you'd expect up here on this quiet road.. in this out of the way place the parking lot was full! and more local cars were dribbling in. Cash only. read more

This farmstand is amazing! Full of the freshest produce I have ever seen, it took all I had to control myself from touching everything in site. Tomatoes as big as my head, eggplant fresh off the vine, and doughnut peaches as darling and cute as a kitten. This place is heaven! The farmstand is set back from the road and surrounded by fields of corn and bright zinnia. It's bustling with locals and workers that partake in a constant dance of depleating and replenishing the myriad of goods that surround them. The family that runs the stand (the Rottkamps) are there to assist in selecting the perfect melon, zucchini or cheese peppers - just delightful. The Rottkamp farmstand has certainly raised the bar for all other fatmstands in my book - being greated with a bursting crate of just-picked watermelon and over-flowing barrells of corn was oddly thrilling. Gorgeous, locally-grown produce from a family-run farm is just too perfect for me. Love it! read more

It's so amazing here. Thanks for the tip Yelp! One of the reviewers had a bad experience with taking pictures, but as I exited the car, there was a family taking a picture of their kid on a tractor. The attached photo was also taken without problems, so maybe they've lightened up. I was at first confused as to why a farm stand need shopping carts, but upon entering and seeing all the goodies...ooooh boy. The watermelons and bountiful amounts of corn (delicious, by the way)! AMAZING! The tomatoes, onions, peppers, leafy greens, garlic...*sigh* amazing. All reasonably priced too. They also sell various types of flowers (actually saw bouquets being freshly fathered from the field as I entered), but someone ahead of me bought all the beauties! I was jealous. I'm glad I found this place on Yelp. They sell fresh vegetables, fruits and some in season flowers inside a big shed. The McIntosh apples were delicious and juicy with the perfect amount of sweet and tart. I kept the seeds from the heirloom tomatoes to see if they can grow. Very fresh fruits and vegetables sold from one of the buildings on the farm. It's not like a fancy market with apple pies, etc, but there are lots of vegetables and fruits. I would say for fruits and vegetables 5 stars, for other ammeneties not real any. We found it a little odd that they weighed our apples after putting them in a plastic carry-out bag first. We'd never seen anyone do that before. We greatly enjoyed the fresh apples which are $2-3/pound. Also, there no credit cards accepted. Cash or check only. But very fresh stuff if you like to cook. read more

I have been a patron of the Rottkamp Bros farm for years. I live in the West Village, but always stop there when I am out on LI because they have the best produce. I don't know if the other Karen S has ever been there, but they clearly grow there own produce. It is a family run company and the owners have even taken me to see some of the fields, and let my cousin's son on the tractor. They have the staple items (tomatoes, greens, etc), but they also have unique items that makes this farm truly special. It is not often you see yellow watermelon (which is fabulous btw), white eggplant, and golden beets to name a few. You can go to a Wholefoods, where they fly produce in and further pollute the plant by supporting the transportation of produce from around the world, or you can come here, support what i believe is the last farm in Nassau and a small, family business at the same time. 60 years ago there were a number of farms in Nassau. Today there are but a few. We are so lucky to have RottkampBrothersFarm for quality homegrown vegetables with friendly service. Each June we can't wait for the farm to open and each November we are so sad when the last crops are harvested.. OK this is pretty funny after reading the other reviews. I went there for the first time last week. I just found it while driving in the neighborhood. I drove down the long lane to explore and ended up filling my wagon with the lovely produce here. It was a weekday, empty. I pulled out my phone and took a photo to send my kids and a woman with an accent (french?) said oh are you going to put that on yelp? I said no. But she clearly had no problem with the photo, and was super friendly. Somebody must have realized yelp is good for business as they've changed their policy! Very helpful. One star removed for the odd "no photography" policy. Farms and farmstands are a natural for photography, and photos also serve as great publicity. A friend of mine was chastised for attempting to take photos there just yesterday. Otherwise, the usual positive comments about Rottkamp apply. As a note, one other farm and stand in Nassau County is nearby, with a good selection (produce, baked goods, pies, soups): Young's Farm (Hegemans Lane in Glen Head, just north of Northern Blvd and Rte 107). read more
