This morning, on our way to Denali NP, we stopped at the Roughwoods Cafe for breakfast. My wife had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and I had the reindeer sausage breakfast. We loved this little cafe! The people were incredibly nice. Our waitress, Jackie, was the kindest most attentive waitress we've ever had and chatted with us like we were old friends. The food was delicious. I ordered grilled cheese with cheese sticks and wasn't expecting much...but it was fresh and perfectly cooked. My boyfriend had a chicken fried steak breakfast and said it was the best he has had. We would recommend everyone driving by Nenana to stop for a visit. We drove directly to the Roughwoods Cafe from the Fairbanks airport. Starving to death we sat at the back booth. The joint was empty but its 3pm and they just had a big rush for lunch before us. Our server was a wonderful young lady named Kalila. She helped us navigate the menu and we both ordered pronto. Tammy The Tornado got the cheeseburger with rings and I got the hamburger and fries. Kalila made me a killler chocolate shake! Our food appeared in a matter of minutes and man was it good. You can tell they use high quality meat and fresh produce and buns. I just wish we lived here so we could be regular fixtures here. Must be owned by a great American because there are American flags everywhere! They are obviously great judges of people since they hired the incredible Kalila!!!!! As we were leaving we met the chef / owner and it all made sense. This wonderful woman named Kari is indeed the entrepreneur responsible for the food being so good you may wind up chewing your fingers off. What?! There's a BREWERY in NENANA?! Why didn't you ever tell me? This is a cozy diner with a twist: the owners brew their own beer. They are largely German lager styles, they are crispy and quenching! Definitely worth a stop if you're heading north from Denali! read more

This is a hidden Gem you must visit. It is between Denali Park and Fairbanks Alaska. The inside and outside are covered with unique Alaskan art and carvings. We stopped here twice and everything was mouthwateringly delicious. The cinnamon bun was large and fluffy filled with yummy cinnamon. They provide the topping and butter separately so you can decide how much to use. We tried several items on the menu we loved- waffles, crispy bacon, sausage link, eggs. My husband had a calzone and a burger with fries and both were amazing. And the best part of the visit is Jackie. She provided excellent service, recommendations, and fun conversations. read more

This was like walking into grandma's house. The food was really good and nice serving sizes. It was the least expensive meal we had in Alaska. Service was really good. We were there right at lunch time and had a party of 8. I had a simple blt and love the potato salad that came with it. Sampled my son's buttermilk pancakes that were great. They had recently added sweet tea to menu and it was instant or maybe bottled and my only disappointment but I had not asked if it were brewed. We would definitely go back. read more

I went with my friends to this place on my way back from fairbanks. Amazing place to stop by and have cup of coffee. The place is decorated with trinkets and has a cozy blend of town and old Alaskan seating. The lady owner Ruth is very kind. She has her own recipes for different kinds of coffee, tea and soup. I am pretty sure ur gonna love the cafe out there. And for those who plan to rest overnight u have cozy rooms available for stay. read more

I love how much character this little cafe has. Every little nook n corner is embellished with cute little trinkets. Their breakfast menu had all the basics which is just what we were looking for after starving for over 3hrs. Their service can be a little slow, but it's worth it cause they take the extra effort to put in that homely touch in all their dishes. The staff were very friendly. They took the extra effort to enlighten us about the history of the Nenana town. Make sure u try their jalapeño poppers, we ordered 2 rounds of these :) read more

We stopped in for lunch on St. Patrick's Day. I had the Irish stew, which was modeled after stew the owner had in Ireland and was delicious! They gave my daughters sweet St. Patrick's Day treats, and kindly made my daughter a cheese sandwich when she didn't want anything else. They also had lots of toys to play with, which we enjoyed. What a wonderful place; my girlfriend and I visited this cafe in August of 2018. The food was delicious and felt homemade, the decor was funny, and the service was excellent. I would say with confidence that it is the best cafe from Anchorage to Fairbank. read more

We stopped by on our way from Fairbanks to Denali last August for lunch. My wife had breakfast and I had a hamburger. Food was really good and great service. Really neat place with lots of burls decoration. We saw all the Nenana Ice classic posters and fliers and bought 2 tickets. We missed picking break up by a little over an hour. read more

We stopped in here for breakfast, maybe the lunch or dinner is better. Definitely don't order the gravy, or the chicken fried steak. Bacon and hash browns were undercooked. read more
