This locale was recommended from a service member who was stationed nearby. Best steak ever? No. Better steak than a chain? Yes. Good deal with salad bar and the meal. They were out of baked potatoes our visit, so they loaded up some fries as they would the potatoes, and they were great! Beverages were topped off in a timely manner, service checked in often enough. Had the Sunday night game playing to entertain. Servers were great, friendly, seemed to be genuinely great people, having not met them before. I've probably driven by hear a dozen times and not even noticed it was here. I ended up here because I was staying at the Aurora (formerly the Nordhaven) in Healy and their welcome email noted that Rose's was closed for two months. This meant the closest food that was not the Totem Inn (not a fan) was Clear Sky. I love the old school ambiance in here. This ain't no tourist trap, this is a real locals-only joint and pillar of the community. Food is bar food and steak. More specifically: fried food, burgers, and steak. They do a breakfast special, but only on Sundays. They had fill-you-own coffee and it was made with organic kona coffee, NOICE! They also have: an old Neo Geo machine, assorted books and VHS tapes, two toilets in the women's (one-room) restroom. Worth a stop! read more

Nice little place north of Denali en route to Fairbanks. Food was great - we had burgers and chicken strips and we were not disappointed! Burger was juicy and fresh and the chicken strips were well seasoned. Fries were tasty too! We also heard great things about the steaks from everyone we ran into on our way up here but didn't have a chance to try for ourselves. Service and people were really awesome! It's definitely a locals place. We're not from here and still, everyone was nice and welcoming. They were willing to answer all of our silly tourist questions and talk/joke around with us. It has a laid back, unassuming atmosphere with genuine charm. It's down to earth and real, so if you're the type of person who doesn't need golden flatware, we highly recommend stopping in if you're heading up this way. read more

Driving along Parks Highway, seeing nothing but trees and other vehicles, little would you know before walking into this unassuming building you're about to be greeted with exceptional grilled meat. Oh, and that's not just because of its remoteness, this place is genuine in its ability to deliver a steak, burger, chop, or any other item you could place on that grill which would stand up against any restaurant in any location at any time. Biggest surprise of our most recent trip to Alaska. Atmosphere - definitely the feeling of Alaska along with genuine people make this a mandatory stop if in the area. My friends and I were vacationing in Alaska and spent two nights in Healey. There was only one restaurant in Healey that was open for dinner (The Totem Inn). After eating there our first night, we decided that wanted to go somewhere different our second night and found just one other place within an almost 2 hour drive that was not closed in October... Clear Sky Lodge. So glad we went there. After hiking all day in Denali in the snow we had the most delicious hearty soup. Tasty food, good beer selection and lots of big screen TVs to watch sporting events. Worth the 50 minute drive! Would recommend to anyone traveling to Denali in the off-season. read more

Was able to stop at clear sky lodge again for a burger and fries. Juicy and hot and perfect. Leah, our waitress/bartender/cook, all the same person, made our trip well worth it. The place was busy for 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon and she was running her butt off. All done with a smile and great personality. I even heard a man at the next table compliment the waitress on the burgers and he said, "The burger was better than -------- " which is a well know place up the highway. This is a bar frequented largely by locals and people driving between Anchorage and Fairbanks. The tour buses do not stop here, and the tourists would probably be disappointed to learn that most Alaskans aren't actually all perky college kids from Minnesota and Bulgaria. As someone who is not a fan of either PBR or Olympia, I mostly come here for the food The menu is divided neatly into two categories: steak and things that will wish you ordered steak when you see what you are missing. I've yet to figure out how the magic happens; near as I can tell, a vacuum-sealed steak is thrown on a grill (the "kitchen" is a stove, an oven, and a fridge next to the bar) and a few minutes later it arrives on your table surrounded by bread grilled alongside the steak, a baked potato, and a superfluous salad. The steak is perfectly seasoned, the potato is perfectly cooked, and the whole meal is washed down by cheap beer. This isn't El Gaucho or Ruth's Chris or anything like that, it's just a surprisingly-good steak in a place you would never in a million years expect to find one. Recommended for anyone who's in the area or is able to time a Parks Highway trip to hit mile 290 in time for dinner. read more

We got there at 7p. It was a little crowded but not to bad. We ordered drinks and then ordered our 2 med rare Ribeyes as we had read that this was the best steakhouse in Alaska. We got our salads about 15 min after our drinks. Not fancy, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, slices of carrot and cucumber. It's 1 chef cooking so after 1 hr 15 min went by and we finally got our steaks. I cut into it and it was well done. So was my husband's. We called the waitress over and time her these were not good and way overcooked. She said she would get him to do it again. She said they were less busy so that made sense. She left our microwaved "baked" potatoes and toasted bread so we could eat something. However, another table who arrived after we did and ordered after we sent ours back got their Ribeyes. We waited another 30 min, so 1 hr 45 after we got there and decided to call it quits. The waitress seemed to feel it pain and let us just leave. No charge for my husband's 2 beers and my Mike's. So we appreciated that but this time of year nothing is open around Healy. Just order something safer that is supposed to be well cooked. The staff was very apologetic that's why I have it 2 stars instead of 1. read more

I was recommended this place by someone at the Santa Claus House in the North Pole, the lady working on the cake counter. After hiking in Denali, we were so hungry so we decided to come here, we were very impressed by the food & service (Claire was great! Very friendly and welcoming, she was full of joy which is always great. I would give her 5* on service!!!!) thank you Claire for making our visit very welcoming! The interior is very cool and the prices for the food is very reasonable, I would highly recommend coming here, we are all the way from England. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't drive by. Stop in and get a steak! You get to watch it cooked, and everything was so good. Very low key, and totally feels like Alaska interior. read more

More like 2 1/2 stars. The pros: The decor is pretty cool. You will definitely feel like you stepped into a cool hardcore Alaskan bar. Basically that's what this is so if you want good cold beer, this place fits the bill. Antlers on the ceiling, huge rock fireplace in a dimly lit log cabin. Locals hang out here so you won't be inundated with tourists. Pretty good but basic salad bar that you serve yourself (only with dinner meal). Good prices. The cons: Basically everything is frozen and it's fried to serve. The Halibut dinner is frozen battered Halibut fried to serve. The same goes with the chicken fingers, the burgers, fries and I'm not sure what else. When you walk in, the 'kitchen' is on your right and the bar is on your left. Right smack dab there. It's a fridge, long counter, couple of deep fryers, condiments and then a grill. So in a way, it's kinda cool that you see them 'cooking' frying your food but it's not really a restaurant. So, if you want a basic meal, cold beer, no tourists and your not picky about frozen food warmed up for you this is it. Prices match the food so I guess that's a good thing. read more

This is an Alaskan landmark. I've been going there since 2005 and can honestly say it's consistently above average. The ribeye is awesome! Sandy is a wonderful owner/host and is always improving things. We just got back in the state and went to eat there on August 8, 2017. They now have an above average salad bar, too! Ice cold beer and community-minded owners make this place outstanding. We were invited to their free community appreciation day where they serve great free food all day. Know in advance: This is the real Alaska. NOT Fancy at all! While they welcome those who may be in a suit, you're likely to be in the room with the road crew and dirty Carhartts. read more

We saw this place on the way to Denali from Fairbanks one day and vowed to come back when we had the time to stop. When we had something to celebrate, it was our choice place to go to get the advertised "best steak in Alaska". We were a bit apprehensive walking in, wondering if we would be ostracized for not being a local, but once we entered, we were greeted and grabbed a seat just past the kitchen which is in the center of the almost living room feeling bar. We ordered a ribeye with baked potato and salad and a NY Strip with the same. The salad was iceberg lettuce on a plate with a squeeze bottle of ranch dressing. It was a decent way to start off our meal as we stared at the TV and chatted. Our meals were delivered with massive hunks of meat taking center stage, a piping hot baked potato and a couple chunks of garlic bread. Let me tell you, the Clear Sky Lodge could teach a few restaurants how to cook. It was the best steak and baked potato I've had in a while. Just decent food. And really nice people. It's not the snazziest place to have dinner but if you're willing to overlook the outhouse restroom, the card table dinner tables and the communal condiments, then you'll love this place. We really enjoyed our dinner. read more
