This grocery store is always a good place to stop in for a fresh meal on the way to work. Not only can you get your groceries here, they have a large salad bar, in-house made fresh sushi, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken available in different flavors as well as pork sandwiches and potato wedges. So many wonderful things. We often get cooked crawfish from the seafood area. The cook always has you sample a piece first to make sure it's spicy enough for you and so far, it's never been a disappointment. They have a great produce selection as well. This gulf coast supermarket chain gets my vote every time. This store is always clean, the red leaf lettuce that my kitty cat craves is always fresh and never prebagged so the leaves wilt prematurely, like at other grocery places. They have this awesome strawberry buttercream that they make and I love it but my kitty loves it too, therefore it's has been dubbed his crack. The freshness of the produce is something I never worry about. What I really go here for is the seafood. They have fresh and frozen seafood that is from the Gulf. It's not from another country. It's a quick in and out at this location. Normally when I stop here I just need to grab an item or two. It's always clean and have what I need. I make a lot of jerky and the meat department will cut the meat into 1/4 slices! That's a huge plus for me. The wine and beer selection is great and the crawfish is just as good. First and foremost, the quality of service and the level of attention the staff takes in keeping stock organized and, well, in stock, is superb. I haven't experienced better even at places like Publix. But, there's something off about the quality of their perishable product, specifically the non-refrigerated items... I've bought several things over the past couple months, from Nestle bottled water to Crest toothpaste, all the same products which I had been buying for years at Publix and Wal-Mart. For the first time ever, I noticed a difference in the nature of the products I bought. Take for example the Nestle water. When I buy it at any other location, the water is tasteless. When I buy it from Rouses, it has an odd, almost-chlorine-but-not-quite taste to it. The bottles are sealed and wrapped in the packaging as they are everywhere else, and they are even within date. But there's definitely a taste to the water. Then there is the toothpaste. All the packs I have bought are sealed properly and within date, just like the water and other products. But when I open it, it comes out watery and with a foul smell, almost as if the products were left out in a hot sun for days on end. I'm wondering if that might not be what happened? It's odd, given the cold weather we've had recently as of this review. But I've been having this experience since the store opened when we were still having summer heat. I really don't know what to blame it on, but there's definitely something up with their perishable non-refridgerated goods. It's a word of warning for those looking to switch their mainstay store from someplace like Wal-Mart or Food 4 Less to Rouses. Again, the service is excellent, but beware of certain dry goods. Do a sample shop to start with, perhaps. -- P.S. When I brought this up with management, they directed any and all possible blame to the manufacturers of the products, which is understandable but incorrect in this case. Rouses is on the way to my hunting camp so I went there a lot during deer season, they always had what I needed and would even special order things if given a couple of days , they special ordered me 3 dozen live blue crabs the week after new years, told them I needed them by Saturday A.M , they called me Friday and said they were in, picked them up Saturday morning, all were alive and had both claws. I wish they had a Rouses in the West Mobile Area. read more

I can't stand going to Wal-Mart, so I was pretty upset when Belle/Food World(whatever it was) closed. I was pretty happy when Rouse's announced they would be opening stores in the Mobile area. I was ecstatic when I heard they were going to open one in Saraland! The store is beautiful and always very clean. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I don't think I have ever had to wait in line at a register. Their produce selection is always fresh and diverse. I love the local items that they feature. The meat section is stocked with almost anything you could want. I'm a big fan of seafood, so I have fun picking out new things to try from their ever changing selection. They have a nice salad and olive bar near the deli. The sushi chefs always have good, fresh choices with samples to try as well. the beer and wine selection is great! I went to the Old Shell Rd. store in Mobile, Al. to talk to Alisha about doing my daughter's wedding flowers. Alisha spent a lot of time finding out what I wanted and what my budget was, then proceeded to help me select the type and color of flowers that we wanted. Our wedding was out of town and she made sure the flowers were packaged so they would stay fresh and beautiful for the trip. She did a wonderful job and the flowers were not only beautiful but exactly what we asked for. She even arranged to have someone there early the morning of the wedding, so the flowers could be keep in the refrigeration until the last minute. I cannot tell you how pleased I was with every part of the transaction. Rouse's has a large selection of flowers and they are just as fresh and beautiful as any florist in town and very reasonably priced. Alisha is very talented and can create anything you might want.
