I returned to Roux & Lucia on a visit to Dubuque and wasn't disappointed again! I had a grilled cheese and tomato bisque, one of my favorite combos, and they delivered. Roux and Lucia is definitely needed for Dubuque! Have gotten coffee and pasteries from their carry out and enjoyed every time- I would definitely recommend! I had brunch at their restaurant and everyone in our group enjoyed their food and our waitress was very attentive! The space is very aesthetic with natural light. It was overall great experience, but upon arrival we did have an odd interaction with the girls at the espresso bar as we wanted to make sure we were standing in the right area to be seated as the hostess was not at the front (for about 10 minutes). They just weren't the most friendly, but once we were seated we had a great experience and this would not deter me from coming back in the future! read more

I love a good bakery and Roux & Lucia is near the very top of my list. We bought a cinnamon role, a pistachio scone, and a croissant thingy that was shaped like a muffin. (I forgot what they called it.) The croissant/muffin was fluffy and flakey as a croissant should be. We have a French bakery near me, but my wife doesn't like it that much because the pastry is baked a bit longer which she believes makes them too hard and crunchy. This is not the case with Roux & Lucia. The croissant is light and crispy but not too hard. I believe ours was "caramel apple" flavored. I have kicked myself for not getting the pistachio. The flavor was perfect; not too sweet or overbearing. My knock on many cinnamon roles, and particularly scones is that they are too dry. Scones can be so dry as to be difficult to swallow. This, to me, was the perfect scone - a nice density yet plenty of moisture. The pistachio flavor came through beautifully and there was a nice sugar glaze on the outside. The cinnamon role was likewise the perfect combination of moist, just a little chewy, but not too dense with a light frosting. ...just try it, and enjoy! PLEASE NOTE: The restaurant portion is on the corner, 620 S Grandview St. If you just want a baked good and coffee (no seating), 333 Bryant St is across the parking lot). We decided to give them a try and yum! We didn't realize that the 333 address is only bakery and coffee. This is also where they are heavily staffed for the Bistro at S Grandview (next door and across the parking lot). I would have loved to have tried the Bistro but didn't know it was a separate building. There is no seating at the 333 address location so we ate in the car. The pistachio cruffin (croissant muffin) was so buttery and delicious. My son had the caramel cinnamon spice one. He said the outside was a bit dry but okay when you got inside. He was delightfully surprised when he found Carmel on the inside too. Next time, we're going to give the restaurant portion a try. The iced macchiato wasn't stirred enough so all the goodness was at the bottom. I had it hot and it was just okay. They could used some sleeves for their hot cups as it was hot to hold. We will definitely be giving them a try again, trying the restaurant portion. read more

Delightful! Where in the world has been all my life and how do I get back to Dubuque to have a cruffin? I had the s'mores and the top looks like it would be super sticky, but it's not and there's a little chocolate on the inside. The croissant itself is light, flaky, and moist, which is uncommon for croissants. I normally want to add butter, but this didn't need it. In my opinion. There should've been more chocolate in the center, but the chocolate was delightful. Bravo! Service was fantastic. read more

Small parking lot with street parking available right in front of the bakery. May be a new bakery, as there wasn't any seating, but the patio looked like it had just been finished. Food was yummy! Flaky croissants and scone. The omelette sandwich was oozing with cheese. The pistachio cruffin was tasty and very sweet. read more

Regarding the Cinnamon Bread: A whole lotta bread with barely any cinnamon. For a whopping $10 a loaf -- very disappointing.

We loved the Bakery and were very excited to try the Bistro this morning. It really is a beautiful space, with intimate seating in a lovely sun room. The service was prompt, and the food was delicious. We grabbed a few items from their market near the deli counter as well. Very excited for the crew here as I'm sure it will be a staple in Dubuque for a long, long time. Well done! read more

came in from Chicago for the weekend, visting family in Dubuque (new newphew!) and stopped in here to grab some breakfast this morning. lovely designed space, welcoming staff, and most importantly, very tasty food! ordered the ham and cheese croissant, two types of quiches, the chocolate chip and smore cookies, almond croissant, and cinnamon roll. all were delicious. might just stop in tomorrow on our drive out of town. took a tomato and herb focaccia to go cuz they just looked so tasty! looking forward to visiting in summer and having some nice baked goods and coffee outside! read more

Went on a road trip to this cute little place in Dubuque. We were hoping for a positive experience. Arriving early with reservations, the restaurant wasn't yet open. We sat briefly on the terrasse to wait, but were chastised for doing so. Next we were seated in the atrium which has quite a nice ambiance but the air conditioning was absolutely frigid. The staff solution was to place menus over the air vents. Several others complained about the temperature as well so menus were scattered about. We were the first to be seated that day and they put us next to the door to the terrasse so that each passing trip by serving staff was a problem for us. The tables are too close together! I ordered a lovely French white wine and Salade Lyonnaise that was adequate. (The waitress looked like I was from another planet because I could say Lyonnaise) As more customers arrived, the volume of people talking was overwhelming and began to shout in order to be heard. They need some acoustic sound blocking. My sisters ordered what was said to be a top seller. The Waldorf Chicken Salad Croissant with chips. First the chips were so hard you could break a tooth and the chicken salad looked like canned chicken and mayonnaise! Although the menu claims that there should be chopped chicken, apples, grapes, onions, celery and nuts--there were none of these ingredients visible to the naked eye. Commas should not have been used in the explanation of ingredients but the word " or " . I know I won't be going back or recommending this place to others. read more

Great drink menu and selection of wines. Space is beautiful. Food was delicious after a 40 minute wait for brunch items. Coffees and food were not brought out by server and everything was cold. That everything was still delicious cold is a testament to the food, but server should pay better attention so other people dont have to take out her cold food. read more

The mortadella is wonderful. The guanciale was one of the best that I've had. I haven't been able to find guanciale since my favorite deli in Milwaukee closed. This little market is a gem. I'll have to go back to try the bakery soon. read more

I went to the bakery and tried their cappuccino...it was quite good, although, I could tell the young woman making it was a bit out of her element, experience wise. The other young woman working the cash register was very friendly and professional. However, the food situation was another issue. They had a large tray of bakery goods next to the cash register...muffins, cookies, etc that were NOT covered and there were several flies on the food items. I swatted them away, but they came back...landing on the muffins. I was so grossed out. That is totally unsanitary and a really good way to make someone sick! All food items should be covered and protected from bugs and other germs! read more

Very cute place! First time visit this morning to check it out. Didn't try any coffee but it smelled good in there! Was a bit cramped as I was 3rd in line and not much room to maneuver to see the pastry case before I got there. Nice lemon water provided for the wait. I bought a cinnamon roll and a pistachio cruffin. CRoll was very good, but at a $6 price tag, will only go on special occasions. The cruffin was unremarkable and definitely not worth the price tag... not much flavor, the frosting flaked off with every bite so was naked after a few bites, and there was a hair at the bottom of the box...yuk but I'm not a squeamish freak. I'll try again sometime to check out the coffee in hopes it's really fantastic and worth the expensive $$. read more
