Dr. Paul is an extremely knowledgeable & diligent orthopedist; probably one of the best in the Bay Area. Super professional and a great guy!

He came highly rated on Yelp, which I am not surprised by. When I called, his assistant, David, was incredibly helpful and managed to fit me in the very next day. Dr. Shin was thorough, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to carefully evaluate my symptoms and review my X-rays before clearly and thoughtfully explaining his recommendations. I never felt rushed and truly appreciated his attentive approach. Thanks to his care, my shoulder is now back to normal. Dr. Shin is an excellent physician, and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of orthopedic care.

Can't say I was thrilled. At first he seemed fine: attentive and friendly. But things changed when…read morethe procedure he did on me didn't work. I had a partial tear in my hamstring tendon, and he performed a PRP on it. But after a month of still having pain, he said it was clear that the PRP hadn't worked. That in itself wasn't the problem; it's what happened after. I wrote him a (very nice) letter explaining why I didn't feel he had paid enough attention to certain things (an MRI of my spine, for example), but I never heard a word from him. (Though he he did call me after this review was posted...two months later.) Also, it felt like it was pulling teeth to get the office to refer me to a spine doctor. It was like I was just cut loose. So...I'd say the treatment might have been appropriate, but the follow-up was sorely lacking.

Dr. Halbrecht is simply the best. LOOK NO FURTHER!…read moreHe operated on my right rotator cuff several years ago from a sports injury. My outcome was perfection. I did precisely what he said to do to ensure full recovery. I was back doing push-ups, weights, lifting, everything and more I did prior to surgery, and only with a magnifying glass can you see 3 pin scars, basically no scarring. Further, my right shoulder hurt, I had to see a shoulder doctor close to my location. He recommended PT 10 weeks 2 X a week said it was a complicated, rare injury intimating surgery if PT didn't work. I saw Dr. Halbrecht today, he gave me a cortisone shot, would Not recommend PT, said I may need another shot would be fine back to training! Thank you Dr. H!!

I got an MRI at Dr Halbrecht's office and then went for a first consultation with the doctor. Dr Halbrecht seems like a perfectly competent doctor and I'm sure his medical advice is sound. It's his communication style and "bed side manner" that I didn't connect with. I asked about something the MRI technician told me and he responded "oh mri technicians don't know anything about this". While examining my knee he put a lot of pressure on it which hurt, without giving me a heads up saying "this might hurt a bit". He was incredibly brief and didn't share with me any advantages and disadvantages of recommended treatment options. Any one of these may not be a big deal, but all of these together was a signal to me that i'd prefer a different provider. If Dr Halbrecht were my only medical option, I would use him, since again his medical advice seemed sound. However since he estimated it'll be ~6 months for treatment, I chose to switch to see a different doctor for my treatment.

I'm writing this review about a year after I met with Dr. Kim…read more I'm 30 years old and have been struggling with chronic lumbar pain for two years at that point. I do my research, and she also came recommended by a friend; so I was really looking forward to getting some valuable insights and hopefully solutions. Unfortunately, I left her office crying out of hopelessness. Since then, I have met with three other doctors who unlike her, gave me hope, provided actual solutions and recommendations to ease or eliminate my pain. Dr. Kim not only made me feel like a serious inconvenience to her day during our appointment; but she was also short, had terrible bed-side manner, got irritated and condescending when I asked questions, and provided really stupid solutions. As an example, she told me I should stop working out if I feel pain afterwards, eat my meals standing up since "sitting is America's downfall", or just fuse my spine if I was worried about further degeneration in my disc. I was devastated, vulnerable and didn't think to question how dire she made my situation sound since she came so well reviewed. THANK GOD I got other opinions. She might be the worst doctor I've ever seen. Could very well have been an 'off day' for her.. but it made a really huge impact on my morale, emotional and physical wellbeing for months thereafter. Did I mention I found out today from a different doctor that I'M MISSING A VERTEBRAE? Baastrupp disease. How could she have missed that, or thought it irrelevant to mention.. is beyond me. Never again.

WARNING !!! Dr. Nicholas Mast, MD, of his SF Hips and…read moreFoundation, has created a dead space in my left hip replacement area, where he performed his minutes in surgery; he does one right after the other. This factory-style machine he has built can cause a disastrous outcome. I kept telling him I was in pain- he said NO, you're not. I wanted to believe that my surgeon knew best and I would heal, and the horrible pain would go away - finally, after my PCP did an MRI over a year later, with me living in chronic pain, walking assisted with canes. Thank God for my PCP and NP, at Sutter Health, they found out my hip has fluid around the hardware. Then the great doctors and PAs at California Pacific Orthopedic, along with many understanding surgeons and doctors who know, I have been wronged by Dr. Nicholas Mast. My hip still has to be drained even now! His lawyer, Virgil Pryor, got involved when I was trying to handle it politely, based on what my insurance company said he would owe me back. They had the nerve to send an NDA for only the co-pays. In return, they offered it as a "gratuitous act. " To make it where I am unable to sue for malpractice and take away my First Amendment Rights?!?! I am disabled, cannot work as I did prior, nor dance as I did daily. I have spent a massive amount of money on physical therapy, new doctors, medications, and hired support -this list is long of a huge amount of money, time, energy, pain, and suffering- now I have major debt -even with the best health care insurance level possible. Dr. Mast, aka MASK. missed the mark and I am still not healed from the surgery that generally takes a few months. Because of Dr. Mast's negligence and oversight, I was not cleaned up correctly at the end of his surgery. He and his lawyer have deliberately drawn things out. His lawyer was always too busy; in trial, or he's out of town. The excuses were all lies to draw out time. Now I can only sue in small claims and go to the Medical Board. Dr. Masks has narcissistic traits; the ego of this surgeon has a God Complex, it's very sad. There was a time when I thought he was the best; I felt safe and trusted him completely. His office ladies are so kind and go-along gals. He doesn't have one male on his crew; his ego is too inflated. I'm a gay man and didn't notice the red flags. I didn't notice that he is homophobic, and the care he gives wealthy older married women and men is far greater, lavishing them with gifts. I saw him give a signed, framed jersey to a very old, very wealthy client. As they told me about their extreme wealth, they are his cash-pay, super-care-level clients. I didn't know he had such until after my surgery in his office that day. What a shame that my surgeon, whom I thought was a great man, ended up a MASKED man, only fueled by greed. He abandoned me and stopped taking my insurance and charged me cash up front for the initial super painful fluid drainage, which He caused. Dr. Mast will take zero responsibility. I was 54 years old, and cortisone and gel shots should have been his first choice of medical care, not a total hip replacement. He is greedy, fake, and, in the end, very cruel. There are so many better options for care; check out other surgeons.
