It meshes perfectly with the other shops and restaurants right along the main drag. Out front the shrubs and green spaces are nicely upkept and featured a sculpture or two. In the library you can find basically anything you'd find in a Charlotte library. The bottom floor features the fiction and nonfiction stacks, plenty of computers for public use and tables for board games, puzzles and Scrabble night. Upstairs is an entire theater where, on the day I visited, a duo was playing guitar, tambourine and singing for a group of kids. Just beside the theater entrance is the children's area for books and things. Both upstairs and downstairs you can find staff at the ready to help you find what you need. It's amazing to me that more people don't take full advantage of the service and resources libraries provide entirely for free in our communities. Though I think that's changing, as this location seems to prove.

I also brought my children here for reading activities when they were young. They have always been accommodating and friendly. I didn't fully understand how blessed our county was to have this library until I began researching my family history. The local history and genealogy room is better than any other I have ever visited. I have visited many. The ladies over this room, Leslie and Denise, are very knowledgeable of local history and are more than willing to assist you in your family research. They work hard to find additional resources to help you break through brick walls that you encounter. They host events and bring in experts and guest speakers. They are simply amazing. The other library employees are eager to assist you in making copies, finding books, and any other need you may have. This library is a great. The parking is not ideal but that is outside the control of the library staff.

It's so nice to see I'm not the only bookie out here lol. The parking was easy and organized. The book sale itself was packed but they had so many wonderful volunteers helping to steer the crowd, it was pretty seamless. They even had volunteers walking around asking if they could take your books and put them on a table to hold for you so you could keep shopping comfortably. it was great! The library has multiple stories and was very clean and quiet. I will absolutely be back soon!!

You can print color/BW pages here for .25 cents each, and you can also reserve a conference room. Having said that, what truly sets this branch apart are the programs that they regularly host. They are great for encouraging patrons to explore more books, while making reading a part of your everyday routine. While I've patronized the downtown Concord Library for 13 years, Afton Ridge has become my new preferred spot. I thought I could scan at home but couldn't, and the Huntersville library is closed for renovations. On my first day here (yesterday), I watched a man on a computer sneeze directly into his hands and continue typing, I walked by a little girl who coughed twice loudly without covering her mouth, and I accidentally dropped my change so all the coins went rolling under the bookshelves. I literally got on my hands and knees to search and collect the change--they were quarters! Today I went back and let the librarian know that I hadn't scanned anything in years. I pretended I was dumb so she would walk me through it. It worked. Very seamless experience. Prior to finishing this review, I just received an email reply from the person I'm sending this info to. That email reads: "Thanks, Tyler (my pen name). All that's missing now is a copy of a voided check." Back to the library!

The registration was easy but the girl who registered us didn't explained much and didn't say much unless asked she didn't give us any information at all. The selection is ok it's a little bit of everything. There's different area for computer uses some room for learning experiences and there's some kids activity and computer. We decided to go inside and check out the public library. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is a library that looks and feels a lot like the ones I grew up with. When you enter the checkout desk/librarian area is right in front of you. On your left is the adult area of the library. On the right is the children's section. We hung a right and went to explore the kids stuff. There were shelves and shelves of books and magazines for kids to check out. There were a few on display around the area as well. One corner contained some toys and comfy chairs. My daughter, and some other child that she met while there, grabbed the toys and arranged them for a little story time. She then brought me a dozen or so books to read to her, her "friend" and the toys. We read through each one of them. The two of us then took a walk around the rest of the kid's area. Another corner contained more comfortable seating that were portable so kids could move them to a spot of their liking. There were three or four computers lining the far wall that kids could use for various things. Stretching across the front of the kids area were tables and chairs that were occupied by tutors and students. Overall I felt that the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library was an a-ok place to spend a rainy afternoon. Why not more? Well, like I said, it reminded me a lot of the libraries of yesteryear. In our hometown, Tampa, we have some absolutely gorgeous libraries which not only house books and magazines and DVDs and CDs but also house tons of technology and legos and hands-on learning opportunities and museums and local art. They also put on performances and offer educational classes and spearhead recycling initiatives and basically make the library a vibrant part of the local learning community. These are gold standard libraries. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library isn't bad, it just stands a couple notches below what I've seen a library can be at its absolute best.

When I first pulled in, they had a pretty large free parking garage which was super helpful! They have numerous rooms for meeting spaces, lots of computers, and multiple info. desk areas where people are available to help you if you need it. They also have a lot of resources for audiobooks online. The only issue is some of them can take a while to become available...Overall, I am a little bit sad I am just now coming to visit this library! I feel like I have been missing out! You can use the printers with a library card for 10 free prints a day (they are $0.15 each so up to $1.50/day). I will say just like with any place you need to be aware of your surroundings! There were a couple of times I was making sure I kept an eye out, but luckily there are a lot of people around as well as a security guard that makes his rounds. This made me feel super safe! The restrooms were also relatively clean!

Children learn quickly how not to behave in this library, just like the ee's. Like others, I found it difficult to find a place to read or study, which is a big part of what a library is for--or used to be. Also, whoever keeps up the 'historian's' office, needs some organization skills. What a plush, seemingly do-nothing job. The next time you are there take a peek....

I needed a temporary card as I was not a library card holder and they gave me a pass. How simple was this? I was impressed and grateful for the polite and courteous staff today. This is a cool library with lots of pumpkins on display right now for a contest. Check it out. And they are adding a new location opening soon on Brawley School road.
