Three floors of serious gear, an indoor climbing wall that goes up multiple levels, and everything from bikes to hiking, camping, snow, and motorcycling essentials. The brand mix is solid, Birkenstock, Allbirds, Reef, Billabong, Roxy, Columbia, Garmin, Camelbak, New Era, Nike, Fox, Deuter and more. It's rare to find this range in the Philippines, which makes this place feel like a real destination, not just a store. Even if you're not shopping, it's fun to walk through and explore. One day, I decided that I wanted to try Rock/Wall Climbing so I wrote it down on my bucket list. After a few days I started googling places that had Rock Climbing gyms. I found really good ones but they were in Quezon city, a bit far from me. Fortunately, I found one that was just a few minutes away. I found out that R.O.X., a one stop shop for anything outdoors, had Rock Climbing facilities. What's great is that their shop is in the heart of the city: The Fort, and they are just in Bonifacio High St. They're literally inside a mall. How convenient! So I skedaddled to their Rock Climbing facility and signed up for a class. The thing was, there are no classes. There's just a quick briefing about the activity, plus a few tips. A few warnings and advices later, I found myself with a harness, a wall to climb, and zero experience. The coaches were very friendly and supportive. They guided me at the start and when I got the hang of it, I just found myself at the top of the wall tired and sweay. When I was done, I had climbed three walls; one easy, one intermediate, and one difficult. The learning curve for rock climbing isn't that steep. All I needed was myself, the desire to learn, and I had fun with it. Rock Climibng was a bit challenging but it was a very awesome experience for me. I really had fun traversing the walls with just my arms, legs, and a harness for safety. It's a bit expensive though, but a good price for this kind of activity (considering that the coaches also help you if you're a beginner). You might spot famous rock climbers in this place! When I went there, I had the privilege of seeing one of the female Filipinos who climbed Mt. Everest. And yes, I was very intimidated and honored at the same time. read more

No other store in Manila is as completely stocked with everything an adventure addict needs as R.O.X. From surfing and diving gear, to mountaineering and camping supplies, they've got it all. I've even seen those weird running shoes that are built with toes and special thermal underwear. Usually I go to R.O.X. to pick up swim stuff, or just go around its floors and gaze longingly at the skateboards and nice, shiny new bikes. And you know the Indo board? That board that you place on top of a cylinder then try to do squats on without falling off? They sell those too. My dad tried using the demo unit, lost his balance, and broke our umbrella saving himself from a twisted wrist or ankle. Fun. Their rock climbing wall is split into 3 sections: easy, moderate, and difficult. The price to try it is pretty reasonable and worth it, since the staff are very helpful and give lots of pointers if you don't have a lot experience. read more

I love, love, love ROX. This all around store is like a playground for outdoor junkies and adventure buffs like me. You can compare it to larger stores in the states like REI that sell just about anything that you need for whatever adventure that you want to go on. I usually stroll around ROX aimlessly as I check out all their new travel gadgets and accessories. Ultra lightweight dry bags? Microfiber towels? Bag locks? Raincovers? It has just about anything that you can think of. Admittedly, my nerdy side comes out as I enter this store and my boyfriend has to actively restrain me from buying things which won't even fit in my backpack when we travel. This place is perfect if you want to find the latest travel or sports gear, or even just browse around to feed that travel itch in you. read more

It is my dream to be an adventurer; to brave a vertical mountain climb; jump off 20 feet cliffs to rough waters down below; sky dive down to Bondi beach; all the possible heart-stopping exciting adventures that I can probably only achieve through a green screen or CGI. But despite knowing that most of my dream adventures will remain dreams until at least a very distant future, I like to indulge myself by window-shopping for what I might pack on my imaginary trip. It's like a mecca for adventurists and travel junkies and I often find myself in the middle of it all just checking to see what's new in store. I'm a big travel junkie and pretty much know the basics but the place is so massive and really complete I often have to bring my boyfriend along with me to explain the uses of certain things or basically to keep me from impulse buying stuff I don't really need but feel I have to have. I particularly like their selection of technical packs. From the more popular North Face and Columbia to Deuter, Osprey, Mountain Hardware and everything in between, there's just so many choices it's hard not to get overwhelmed. They also have really good sales from time to time and it's especially fabulous for the apparel. Imagine getting a superb jacket from North Face for half its original price! The prices are steep here but what you do get is the satisfaction of having everything you need all in one place. read more

You can't go into the wilderness unprepared. It doesn't matter how good you are at something; if you don't have the tools, there's nothing you can do. Looking the part is just as important as playing it, and any would-be adventurer must stop at ROX before venturing further. They have pretty much everything you need short of a spear gun and maybe special tech fabric underwear. Backpacks, tents, flints, portable stoves, if you need it to survive a camping trip you can find it here. It's by far the biggest outdoorsy shop in our urban jungle, and no trip to High Street is complete without a wistful look inside. This is one of my dad's favorite stores even though he hasn't gone camping in 30 years. Unless you count camping in the garden. read more

I took 4 Girl Scouts to climb the wall. We had an enjoyable time. The coaches were great. However, I was stolen from at the register during my cash transaction. Twice! As I was with kids, I was distracted and did not look at my receipt immediately and waited until I got home. Because this is Girl Scouts, I fronted the money with them the intention of a reimbursement from the troop. The troop will only reimburse for the amount printed on a receipt. By giving me a receipt worth 1/2 the value of what I paid, I have been stolen from. The corporation has been stolen from as their employee is taking cash right out of the drawer. I realized that though I was charged one amount and given change in concurrence with this amount, the receipt that reflects my cash purchase was for exactly 1/2. Not once, but twice since I went up a second time to add a girl. This could mean two things, either one leaves me shorted and stolen from. This was not a simple error. My first receipt reflects P600, even though I was charged P1200. For which I gave her P2000, receiving P600 change. The receipt states P600, exact change. The second receipt I was charged P400, and used the P500 bill from my first transaction. I was given P100 change. The receipt reflects a cost of P200 only and P300 being given as change. I had used 4 coupons total for P250 each. These coupons are not reflected any where on my receipt. perhaps she uses these coupons to balance her register and walk away with the difference after charging me the entire amount Or she just vocally gave me an amount but only typed in for a lesser amount pocketing the change. I love this place. The common misconception about Recreational Outdoor eXchange is that only active people or those who love the great outdoors will find items that pique their interest here. Absolutely mistake. I'm not the biggest exercise buff, but I do like going on adventures so I've found myself here when: one, I was headed to a nature program in New Zealand in winter, and two, when I've had to go hiking. Their collection here amazes me. I love the Aquazorb towels which dry faster than a regular towel and are very soft to the touch. They're a local product too so plus points. There's also North Face backpacks as well as Columbia hiking boots, Klean Kanteen stainless steel water bottles, Sanuk shoes, and Havaianas. I'm not sure what they don't have. I really like going to R.O.X. because it's a superstore with all your outdoor gear and needs. They carry a lot of brands like The North Face, Trek, Go Pro, Quicksilver, Roxy, Sanuk, Giant, and much more. I usually go to R.O.X. to look for things for my bike. They have almost all the tools you need and other gear like helmets, gloves, and sunglasses. It's a good place to visit for those that do mountain climbing, surfing, and triathlons. The store has 3 - 4 floors of everything for the outdoors and can be your one stop shop for you next adventure. Making a visit to R.O.X. will certainly unleash the adventurer in you. You'll want to just get out there and do something. For those that want to just try something new, they have a rock climbing wall inside their store. read more

My dad's a big fan of the outdoors, and usually I just tag along for the ride, kind of passively enjoying it. When I entered ROX for the first time though, my dad, my siblings and I literally spent hours here just checking out the different floors for all the cool adventure and outdoor stuff that they were selling. ROX is a haven - a paradise for all lovers of the outdoors, but also lovers of robust and sturdy products! There are shoes that can brave all sorts of surfaces and towels that dry phenomenally fast. They've got North Face, Quicksilver, and Hurley (and a LOT more brands at that) products that can go as low as half the original price when they're on sale here. Adrenaline junkies will fall in love with this place - I know I did. I never tried the wall climbing, but for P550 I can say my dad sure had his fill of fun here.
