Brought daughter's "new" used car in for a safety check with short notice! Mechanic took the time to point out some real positives about her new purchase. Two days later I asked them to safety her daily driver that she decided to sell! I felt I was treated like gold, work was done on time, and for a very reasonable price. WORST GARAGE EVER !!. If you were to Google " Corvette Repair Ottawa " , the Roy Barber page comes up. Once you click on it, it states: " Bring your iconic Corvette to Roy Barber Services for the best repairs in Ottawa ". They claim to do their work with transparency, honesty and integrity. They claim to be experts with years of experience. Let me tell you, those statements are completely false !. My experience with this place has left me utterly disgusted at the lack of knowledge that they possess. Here's my story: I brought in a classic 1975 corvette that I had purchased in May of this year. I told them I wanted to address a few issues, get the car dialed in, so it would be safe to operate. I told them I was not in a rush, but wanted the car to be done right, so they could take their time, as long as I could drive it at some point this summer. Well needless to say, they had the car all summer and I got it back just in time to store it for the winter. I was also disappointed with the condition the car was returned to me. It arrived there clean inside and out. I got it back covered in dust, with grease all over the white leather seats, dirty finger prints on the dash and the interior smelled like a grease pit. Not to mention, minor exterior body damage. My issues I wanted addressed: 1) - Requested that both door locks be replaced, as the keys did not work in the lock because the locks were in a lock-out mode. I wanted the lock-out featured removed and locks replaced. I got one lock replaced on the drivers door, and on the passengers door, it was " fixed ". Now I have to carry 2 separate door keys instead of one key for both doors. 2) - While driving the car from where I bought it, I noticed the right rear caliper sticking at stop signs and making a loud noise when I pulled away. The previous owner had the front left brake line replaced, but nothing else. I told Roy Barbers to double check the remaining 3 lines, replace all 4 calipers so I wont have issues later on. They changed the front ones, and merely " serviced " the back ones. Now another location will be doing what I initially asked to be done. 3) - Pervious owner purchased a fuel pump and all the fuel filters needed but did not have time to install them by the time I bought the car. I told Barbers to change the pump and filters since they were sitting in a box in the car. They did not do this work, stating that it was running just fine for them while they did road tests and just moving the car around the lot in general. I requested this to be done because while driving it home from where I bought it, I experienced a loss of power for just a fraction of a second, on 2 separate occasions. I wanted it changed so I could drive the car without the fear of fuel pump failure while in traffic. 4) - Left wiper was catching under the hood when activated, while the right wiper worked as it should. For obvious reasons, I wanted this issue addressed. Their idea of repairing the problem was to place the wipers in the middle of the windshield and then they disconnected the motor, making the wipers totally inoperable. I did not accept this and told them to fix the problem. After another 3 weeks , I get the call saying it was done. They decided to change the wiper motor at a cost of nearly $700. I tried it out at the garage, and it worked ---- the same day at home, and it still does not work as it should. I took a video, went back to the garage where I spoke to Cal. He said he would come to my house, look the car over himself and drive it back to the garage. He said he would be there on the Thursday around 1:30pm ---- he never showed up, didn't call, did not even send an email. I wonder if this is his idea of customer satisfaction. This customer is not satisfied !!. I spent a total of $5,600 and for what ??. It's going to cost me another $4000. just to fix their mistakes.......and there will be a complain with the Better Business Bureau. read more

They installed the wrong mirror on my escalade even though it was obvious from a different trim level and year. After pointing this out I was made to know how much this was going to cost them to fix and so on as if it was somehow my fault. As a back story I began using barbers at the beginning of 2016. I had them install a 4 inch lift kit and then plan out an axel swap and locker install. This went from being a 10k job to a 20k job as they have zero experience with planning out big builds. Their shop has 2 qualified 4x4 mechanics who are used to run the shop and the attention to your vehicle if you doing custom work is left as a last job situation. The mechanics mind you are top notch who do great work. However their employer rushes conversations, does zero research when ordering parts for compatibility and is not interested in making sure the job is done correctly. Roy Barbers needs in house accounting - records all over the place and no tracking. You can tell quicjly that this shop was passed down as the current owner has zero qualifications to do his job. My sugestions; * Get a quote - make them accountable for their estimations and ensuring they know what they are doing before they start work * Do not use them for autobody - They are not qualified and even after doing the mirror twice they still ordered and installed the incorrect mirror for the year Keep your records. This shop is currently threatening me over an invoice that has changed several times. Happily we have originals from purchase. Dont trust the barbers. read more

Tried to make an appointment on their website. They never called me back. I had to call them to see if my appointment was confirmed. The excuse was that they don't work on Sunday, when they could have called me on Monday. I bring the car in. They say it will be 1h30 min. After an hour waiting, I called them to see what was going on since they were going to do a test first and call me back. They said, after I had been waiting for an hour, that they had just brought my car in, thus making me wait for another hour and a half. Completely unsat. Take your business somewhere else, somewhere where they actually care about customers. read more

I have been a Roy Barber customer since I first came to Ottawa in 1980. Roy himself passed away some years ago and his sons have operated the business since then. For years they were on Sunnyside and Bank then they moved south on Bank between Heron and Walkley I have found them to be hard working, honest, fair, and reliable. A big comfort for me.
