The City of Ottawa puts on cooking classes at the Shenkman Arts Centre throughout the year for very…read morereasonable prices considering you get instruction from a chef, get to eat a communal meal you helped make and bring home any leftovers. Maria, the chef, is super friendly and knowledgeable. I recently took a Mexican cooking class with her and my mother-in-law. It was a lot of fun and the food was delicious. There is a commercial kitchen in the downstairs of the Shenkman Arts Centre that is used for the cooking classes. The kitchen is well equipped and there are volunteers to help with cleaning dishes as the class cooks along with provided recipes. The communal meal afterwards is really nice to be able to talk to fellow classmates and to enjoy what we made together. You're allowed to bring containers with you to the class in case there are any leftovers. We ended up bringing home a bunch of things because there was plenty to go around. I highly recommend checking out a cooking class here!

From the owner: Shenkman Arts Centre is a creative hub where artists and audiences meet to explore a diversity of…read morearts through live performance, instruction, exhibits and special events. The Centre is located in the east Ottawa community of Orléans and offers programs and services in both English and French. We like to say this is "where art comes to life" because behind the doors of our two theatres, seven galleries and 17 studios - in the halls, lobbies and even on the walls - there is plenty of creativity stirring. The Centre houses these activities within specialized spaces for hands-on instruction, creation and presentation of the visual, performing, literary and media arts and unique spaces for receptions and special events. Operated by the City of Ottawa, this diversity of programs and activities is attributed to a unique collaboration with the Centre's Resident Arts Partners: AOE Arts Council, Gloucester Pottery School, MIFO (Mouvement d'implication francophone d'Orléans), Ottawa School of Art-Orléans Campus, and OYP Theatre School. The Centre is also home to Resident Company Tara Luz Danse and ARTicipate, a one-of-a-kind endowment fund that supports innovative programming at the Centre.

There were no smells or vacuums. It smelled and felt fresh. Breakfast wasn't free. They charged 15 dollars per person. If you are going to get breakfast bring an appetite! I didn't have one. The hotel staff was always friendly and helpful. This was a wonderful first time solo travel.

I needed a place of QUIET, and the room was a refuge from my normal noisy, unpredictable, and less than hospitable residence. As an oasis , the Holiday Inn in Orleans is wonderful, and I treated every second of Peace, and Quiet, as though it was my last! - I would recommend this Hotel as a great StayCation for anyone who needs a break from the hustle and bustle of a typical hectic life! / From the second my head hit the pillow , until my alarm went off, I enjoyed a complete sleep - something otherwise very rare. The wide screen TV and the Wi-Fi remained unused, since I was after "peace". -The washroom was squeeky clean, new, and well appointed. - Because of Covid, the magnificent legendary breakfast was not available, and I look forward to returning, once life gets back to normal. - In the evening, I received a text from the front desk asking if all was well - and it was, just that. - friendly efficient staff, well furnished rooms- all-in-all just a great place. - highly recomended.
